Not the Wurst place I have ever been, now that ropey pun is out of the way I can do a proper review. I stumbled across this place on the way to Leadenhall Market and made a mental note to return and try it for lunch. I ordered the Berlin Berlin meal deal which is Curry Wurst, Chips and a drink for 6.95 which puts it in the top end of my lunch time pricing. Considering that it markets itself as German street food is a little pricey but then again the rent on a unit on Cornhill will be steep. There is not much space to eat inside so I would recommend The Wurst Club as a takeout place. I was impressed with the food, the curry sauce on the sausage tasted great and the chips were very crispy. I’ll definitely try it again.

Hrm. I’d like to comment on the sausages, but I can’t. Truly can’t. Because I went into the Wurst Club in a group of 3 and was the last to place my order(about 7pm on a Friday) and they ran out of rolls. I tried to order a sausage sans roll but was told that they«can’t do that.» While the place does offer a couple bun-less options all the time, they are both currywursts — which I don’t happen to care for. In the end, I got some yummy french fries. They were really well seasoned and came with mayo before I even had to ask for it! My fellow diners really enjoyed their sausages and the place was nice and clean and offered quick service. For that, I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and 3 stars for this occasion. Hopefully next time I stop in I can actually grab a Wurst!

I used to like this place a lot but, after a couple of sauerkrauts that were far too heavy on the caraway(at least I think that’s what goes into it) the quality seems to be going down a little. The place is tiny and generally packed, the choice of wurst is good and the prices not too bad. Service is quick and friendly, and you could do a lot worse than pop in to give it a try.

I am said friend that Unilocaler Tim L alludes to in his review. I can’t really hype this place up, nor can I really say anything bad about it. It was simply just ok. Being a German, it’s simply a treat to once in a while treat yourself to a Currywurst or a Krakauer… and so I appreciate the folks at Wurst Club for giving me this opportunity. What I missed was a place to sit and by means, this is nothing that the shop owners can do about, due to the space constriction, but not working around the area, I had to find a place to eat my wurst. I had ordered the homemade Kartoffelsalat(potato salad) and while the portion was plenty, the taste didn’t exactly hit the right spot.(Maybe I can give away my mother’s recipe, as her potato salad is delicious!) My tip: go for the Currywurst as this is the most German you can get. Simply have it with fries in a paper tray — it’s by no means healthy, but it sure makes you feel good inside ;-)

Ich kam hier mit mein Deutsch freund. He wanted to try this place out. When we walked in, he said that the place smelled like a proper wurst place. I made a joke that it was probably the best worst place to go to. Hah. Lame. Anyway, we both ordered the Krakauer with Sauerkraut and he had a potato salad. A hefty side of mustard comes with each wurst. Honestly, the wurst wasn’t the worst and the bun wasn’t the best. But overall, for a quick lunch, it wasn’t the wurst place to go(ugh stop already please). But if you take it to go, turn left outside the store and left into the next alley, you can enjoy the wurst and chips and potato salad in the quiet(somewhat) of a small courtyard. Only to be lightly disturbed by busses horning when they pass. I can’t think of a better wurst place to go to in the city, but I don’t think I’ll have much wurst in my lifetime in London. I think it’s still better had in Germany, but this place isn’t bad. Enjoy city workers, enjoy…
