This is what they call a classic. A good old fashioned, beautifully made, succulent burger that makes no apologies for just being what it is. The patty is ridiculously juicy and tender, and as much as the bacon, cheese and onions were great too, holy mother the meat is a standout. I ate two of them, defeating the purpose of the spin class I had just attended, but it was so goddamn worth it. Also had the angry fries which were delicious. But unnecessary. The burger is the star of the show.

The beef is delicious, decadent, unapologetic… amazing — the star of the show beyond a doubt: juicy, rich, delectable and perfectly cooked to a medium-rare. Comes on a seeded bun, the toppings don’t get very diverse, nor do they need to be. Beef is the focal point and star of this show! From its humble food-truck beginnings, Bleecker Street Burger now has established two permanent locations and I recently tried the burgers at the permanent Southbank truck location. They were delicious. Started by American expat, Zan Kaufman in 2012, Bleecker Street is her take on the best New York, East village burger. Using dry-aged beef from The Butchery in Bermondsey(minimum of 40 – 50 days aging) Bleecker has some of the richest, most intense beef in London. Their burgers run from £6 for a classic cheeseburger to £10 for the Bleecker Black: double beef, double American cheese, black pudding, onions and special sauce. I went for the double with cheese, and my mate had the double with bacon. The bun is just light and fluffy enough to melt in your mouth, but strong enough to stand up to the greasy awesomeness of the beef. We got the ‘angry fries’ which are topped with a buffalo hot sauce and some blue cheese dressing. Another American touch to a British burger, but well worth a try! I write more about it on my site, if you’d like to check out the full review.

the Bleecker Black; the medium rare heavyweight burger champion from this side of the Atlantic, is always there to win the day if you’re just wandering the southbank. I always am wide eyed giddy with delight whenever I see the ever trusty Bleecker van perched by the bridge amidst the commercial and overrated franchise restaurants that make the foreground. Can’t think of a more picturesque place to eat that burger and get those Meat sweats.

I am a big fan of Bleecker in Shoreditch, but the south bank branch was slightly disappointing. I’m not sure if it’s because they are catering to tourists 90% of the time. My bacon cheeseburger was average, the bun was stale and the bacon portion was ridiculously small. Will go back to Shoreditch, as there is no way I am paying £7 for the rubbish they served me. Ending on a positive note, the fries were excellent as usual.
