Average, average, average! I went for a drink late on one night with a friend and was not impressed at all with cocktail menu, as most are whiskey based and I’m not really a fan at all! I ended up with a can of lager, which was pretty small and almost £5. Kinda daylight robbery really. My friend got an Irish coffee which came in at a steep £10. Definitely overpriced for what it was. The atmosphere was quiet, and so I think it could work for a date or a catch with an old friend. The décor is quirky, which did impress me, but aside from that, it’s just AVERAGE! Go for one of the other million better options nearby.

Came in here for lunch recently. It was empty, and all I ordered was a chicken sandwich, which took ages to come out. When it did, it was really disappointing — the bread was dry and soggy at the same time, the chicken was ice cold, and the whole thing just didn’t work. It was really surprising, as the chicken coming directly from the rotisserie looked good. I’m not sure what they did with my chicken, but I’m not planning to go back to see if it’s better second time.

I only came in here for a drink. The drinks menu is a lot of whisky based cocktails, standard cocktails and lots of whisky. I opted for a Irish Coffee, it was well presented and tasted good but at £10 it seemed a bit much. A lot of the drinks on this menu are around £11/12 and they charge you 12.5% service charge too. It was pretty quiet when we were there as we were the only customers but it was late. The atmsophere was pretty cosy as it’s quite small inside with a few tables. I don’t know if I’d come back as it wasn’t anything amazing.

I’ve passed by this place a lot of times but to be honest what made me go in was that I really needed the bathroom. The bathroom is in fact not particularly impressive, however the cocktail list is pretty good. I decided to go for one of their house cocktails called something with Toro if I remember right. I have to say it was very nice and I liked it a lot, however it was £12 so a bit on the expensive side. The venue itself is quite small and it can get quite crowded, however I would have liked to try the food as well as the rotisserie chicken looked delicious. I hope I’ll be able to go back and give that a go at some point. However in terms of drinks I definitely think you can find nicer less crowded bars and you should probably avoid it on a Saturday night.

A safe but slightly different restaurant, serving rotisserie chicken with a choice of salads. Recommend the rocket and mango. Also on the menu are baos, burgers etc all with a slightly Asian twist. Place is nicely decorated. Lots of whiskey on the drinks menu. Cocktails are steep at £12 but bet they’re good. A definite recommend for their tasty chicken at lunch and looking forward to trying them out as an evening option.

Had the fish, roasted peppers, chicken and cauliflower poppers and scallops! All amazing. The appetizers/sides made the meal. The owner and staff are very friendly and accommodating. Would go back again. Small place.

All in all it was a great evening at Bull in A China Shop, a fun and refreshing concept but executed finely. A great selection of Japanese Whisky based cocktails with a killer signature chicken dish. The cocktails are expensive but then again Japanese Whisky itself is a very luxury product in the UK down to the limited quantity in production and the high cost import fee. If you love whisky and chicken then this is a must visit place if you live in London, you will not be disappointed.

Lovely surprise! This lovely little restaurant! The staff is friendly and the layout refreshing. Yes it is small but perfectly formed. The food is good and the drinks mixed well! Definitely worth a visit!

‘fraid I can’t vouch for this new kid on the block… yet. Bull in a China Shop, recently opened on Shoreditch High Street, is situated right in the crux of all the action. Inhabiting a long shuttered storefront, it was a welcome sight to see something had popped up here! There’s still hope, but I can’t say my first visit was a great one. First impression is that it’s small, but well laid out. People always call me a «Bull in a China Shop»(especially my mum!) so it seemed fitting that it was a tight squeeze around all the tables and I had to maneuver awkwardly while bumping my bag into some chairs. Wear your skinnies guys, there’s no room for an errant trouser leg here. No room! So we got off to a bit of a rocky start. I was there a few minutes ahead of a friend. I arrived. There were several ladies working in/around the bar and kitchen yet no one looked up, made eye contact or attempted to see if perhaps, I’d like to patronize the establishment. I finally got someone’s attention(again it’s not even a big place) and they were really nice, but everyone felt a bit lost. Odd. After sitting down and being forgotten, I popped back to the bar to order a coffee while I waited. With virtually no one else in the entire place it seemed weird that drying glasses would take priority over serving customers. Again, think the opening kinks are still at play here and I have high hopes. What I have a bit less hope for is the chicken. Gosh. I’m not even picky but this rotisserie chicken(I ordered a small portion with some salads) was SO dry that I had to wash it down with water each bite to get it down. That just ain’t right. Enough about that. It seems like they are trying to be a lot of things here(Chicken, breakfast, coffee, cocktails?) — but aren’t necessarily winning any of those genres just yet. I wouldn’t go for a meal again, but maybe a cocktail? I just don’t know. Things seem a bit lost here. Will give it a go in a few months… let’s just hope its opening jitters that scared that chicken out of its moisture.

Like the feel of the place. Unassuming. New! Just went in for coffee but would go back.
