We came here after a 10k race, in the rain, from the other side of Queen Elizabeth Park — and none of us had had breakfast so we were starving! Naturally, I would’ve thought any old place would be five stars because, really, when you’re hungry, everything tastes amazing — right? :-) We were told that our table was being made, so the waitress directed us to the bar for some drinks. About 10 minutes later, she ushered us over to a table by the window. It was raining and cold outside, and while not raining indoors at Bumpkin… it was still bloody cold! Cool interior which i’m a sucker for. It has a rustic feel to it, and high ceilings. Good signs! We ordered a couple of burgers and a pie with hot tea and hot chocolate as drinks. This meal set us back ~60GBP for a main and a drink. Money aside… how was the meal? The buns on the burgers were disappointingly dry, as though they had been left outside for a few days. The pie — steak and ale — tasted more like steak and salt… If you do come here, don’t make it your first choice — and bring a bottle of water with you. Watch out for the 15% service charge they tack on the bottom of your bill which is labelled as «OPT» but still included in the grand total.

I went to Bumpkin with bunch of friends to recover our empty stomachs after a chilly winter 10K race. We were presented with a free table after some considerable wait(but considering my average train delay this week considerably quickly). The food on the offer is… not matching the interior of the venue. The Bumpkin Bar looks pretty hip and like a place where you want to have your gourmet meal or something off the British cuisine. However, the food unfortunately didn’t deliver on this occasion. The well-done burger that I ordered was having only last bits of the juice and was drying out pretty quickly. The char aroma of it reminded me of the need to ventilate the cooking area to avoid carbon monoxide contamination. In other words, the meat was burnt. The brioche was ok, so were the add-ons(avocado and jalapenos). However, the burger didn’t feel as one whole piece. The ingredients seemed to be quite isolated from each other. It felt more like a collection of: brioche, meat and add-ons(red onions which came for free). Maybe there was not enough dressing/chutney to join them or the dry, burnt burger aroma killed the texture and thus connection. Nevertheless, there was something missing in this burger. The tea was ok but nothing really exciting. The bill was pretty high and I think it’s fair to say that the food didn’t match the price point of the place. Otherwise, it’s a fine venue if you judge the place by the looks. Maybe I’ll try fish&chips next time?

A reliable food stop in Westfield — I usually choose it for brunch but it was only when we sat down that my sister and I realised it was already 1pm! Time flies on a Saturday morning out window-shopping… They serve the brekkie menu til noon so the lunch menu it was. I couldn’t choose between the pulled pork wrap or the veggie wrap(it would’ve been no contest but the veg one was calling to me with goats cheese!). Thankfully I was reminded that having sisters is the best thing in the world — she felt exactly the same way so we got both and swapped half :) They were fine, but nothing mind-blowing. I enjoyed the goats cheese but there could’ve been more grilled veggies in the filling, while the pork one was tasty when hot but it was my own fault for chatting too much and letting it get cold woops. A generous side of chips arrived with both too. I think the food is overpriced for what it is, but I do love the quirky pretty décor here and also had a mild girl crush on our waitress because I liked the way she smiled with her eyes — it made her seem very genuine in taking care of us! Enough to boost it to four-stars and ensure that I’ll be back(before 12 next time)…

Take a break from shopping in Westfield and settle down to some hearty British dishes in Stratford. Bumpkin has four locations across London, which should in theory make it a chain, however, it has still retained some individual love. There is no shortage of places to eat in Westfield Stratford, but this is one of the external offerings with bags of natural daylight. Dishes are reasonably priced with a varied range of fish and meat options. Starters include an interesting take on our olé fave«prawn cocktail», with a crayfish cocktail served with virgin mary dressing. Mains are easily recogniszable with Steak, Half Chicken, Salmon Wellington and there is an imaginative veg option of pearl barley risotto with foraged mushrooms and chevril roots. We had portobello mushroom with brie and fresh sage as a starter. Mains were the Aberdeen angus burger with chips and char-grilled chicken Caesar salad with an anchovy dressing. Simple, served and enjoyed. Will pop in again for sure on my next shop til you drop session.

Bumpkin is a roomy restaurant with a great British menu. Friendly and attentive service. I had the leek and potato soup as a starter, it was a huge portion! A bit disappointing that it only came with toast and not proper bread rolls. Their pies were amazing, I had the charter pie, it was packed full of meat. The mash was a tad tasteless but it was overall a good main. I like that you get a choice between gravy and a parsley sauce. I was so full that I didn’t have room for dessert. Another thing worth mentioning is their cocktails. I had the English Garden and it came in a large glass, it was tasty and a good size for £8.

Bumpkin is a small chain of London restaurants who offer a taste of seasonal Britain working with local farmers in order to use the best, sustainable and ethically sourced British ingredients. The Westfield branch certainly has a welcoming homely feel to it despite its size(it’s spread out over two floors and also has a large outdoor terrace which was absolutely rammed with people that scorching Sunday lunchtime). We were seated in a quiet upstairs section to peruse the menu. Being Sunday there was a roast on the menu and when that happens there really isn’t any other choice is there? This was one of the biggest roast dinners I have ever had and I barely made a dent in it despite my hunger! They even offer you extra roast potatoes if you have room. I did find the half onion on the side a bit of a random addition but it certainly didn’t detract from the meal. Everything from the chicken to the veggies to the yorkshire was cooked to my liking and there was just the right amount of gravy too — I hate a stingy portion of gravy! I really couldn’t fault this meal at all apart from the fact that we didn’t have time for puddings but that was totally our fault and not the restaurants. I’ll definitely have to return to try some of the other delicious looking items on the menu.

Great service and awesome food. We had the minced beef & onions and the fried chicken. Both were exceptional and exceeded our expectations. We will definitely return!

My partner and I went here last night. It was my first time but my partner had been a couple of times previously. I will start with a negative. Once seated we were promptly given the drinks that we ordered. I had a Bumpkin Beer which was really nice. However, trying to order another drink after that was a struggle. I continually tried to get someone’s attention to order another drink but was unable to until someone came to collect our plates once we had finished our meal. Once my main meal arrived I was asked if I wanted any condiments. I said that I would like mayo. Once I had almost finished my meal the mayo arrived. I would be more understanding if the place was busy, but it wasn’t. Basically I think that the staff need to be more attentive and quicker, although my partner who had been a couple of times before assured me that he had always had a good experience there previously. Maybe they were just understaffed on this occasion. However, Bumpkin has many positives. The venue is really nice, I really liked the décor and theme of the place. It has an outside seating area which would have been lovely if the weather was nicer but obviously Bumpkin can’t be held responsible for that. The staff were really friendly and funny and the food was absolutely delicious! I had mushrooms and Brie as a starter, and although I was expecting a bit more mushroom, once I started eating it I forgot all about that because it tasted so good! I had a Bumpkin burger and chips for my main and it was so good that I didn’t mind so much that I didn’t have my mayo. The chips were so nice that Mayo might have even spoiled them. All in all I would recommend going to Bumpkin because I will definitely be going back.

Had lunch here with my mum last week, nice courtyard so could make most of sunshine. Staff were attentive and took order swiftly. Had fish and chip wrap and Scottish pancakes. Portions were big and good value for money. The milkshake was delicious and homemade lemonade yummy. Would come here again. Good British menu, nice inside and the toilets were nice, always helps :)

This place is amazing, I went here over the Christmas period and it was so good, it was delicious, I had a 2 course meal(Consisting of starter and main) For starters, I got handmade sausage roll, which was huge, but as a bonus on the side they have bacon and pork crackling, I love crackling! it was all top notch stuff, so damn good. Main, I had fish and chips, this fish and chips was delightful. You don’t expect the best from somewhere that isn’t a dedicated fish restaurant or somewhat close it. The fish was so crisply battered and as soon as I touched it with my knife, it was as if it was silk to cut through. The fish itself, so nice, I enjoyed every bite, the chips even better, they were unbelievably crisp. Service was good, they didn’t pester us, if I needed a refill of drink, they were quick and snappy about it. They were also very polite, which goes down well with any customer. They were also happy to move us when I asked, as one table was wobbling. Loved it.

My wife and I visited bumpkin during the last week of the Olympics. We were seated in a timely manner being the olympics were next door. Then everything went sour for us. Our appetizers arrived at our table before our drinks, then we finished our appetizer, and still no drinks(20min). Then we get our food, which look rather delicious, but unable to enjoy because there were no condiments to come with the burger and fish&chips.(tartar sauce, mayo, ketchup). I asked for condiments and had a Rude waitress snap at me and say«yeah ok»(never arrived). I even had to wait for some one to collect my bill(30min). I was in London for 3 days and everything was going great until the last day, Thanks Bumpkin for the poor service and last memory of London.

After a look around the shops we decided to pop into Bumpkin as it looked inviting and friendly. It wasn’t until we sat down we realised how expensive the restaurant was. I like the ethos of local food that’s in season but don’t understand why it has to be expensive? Our waiter was quite surrly which was a shame. We ordered Sunday lunch which on arrival was £17.95 each. When it came to our table it was £16.95. We don’t understand why the change and they tried to charge us £17.95 at the end of the meal. The roast was beautifully cooked and we were offered choices of how the meat would come out. It didn’t look like a huge portion but it was actually just about right. The meat and veg were very tasty as was the gravy. I don’t understand why other people were served with Yorkshire Puddings and we were not though. There was no explanation for this. I though I’d have a soft drink as it was a warm day. This was a mistake. £5 for a lemonade. Half a cider was £2. As I said the bill was incorrect and to add insult to injury they slapped on £5 service charge. I got the bill changed but didn’t expect the sorrowful explanation from the waiter that he gets not cut and it wouldn’t matter to him if we were charged more cause he sees no benefit. He may have been trying to explain that he doesn’t set the prices but it doesn’t explain how the price changed mid meal. The meal was nice but not worth the price. The restaurant was airy although the music was too loud and the staff weren’t as attentive or friendly as they could be. Nice experience. Nice not to have to go home and cook a roast dinner but I don’t feel like I’ve had a £50 meal(total cost for two drinks(1 soft) and 2 roast dinners).

Bumpkin is my new favourite place to eat in Westfield Stratford City. It was always on my food bucket list and I finally got to dine here last Sunday. My instincts that sparked the first time I walked passed this restaurant were correct. This place was good. Good as in good décor, good feel, good service, and good food. I went for a roast dinner with beef. It came with horse radish and veg. The yorkshire pudding was a tad over cooked and hence the reason why I’ve knocked off a star. My mate went for the pork belly, which I had a taste of. It was melt in your mouth! For dessert, I was a bit fussy and preferred to have ice cream with my chocolate cake instead of coffee cream. The waiter had no problem in sorting that out for me. I was happy. Perhaps TOO happy. Anyway, it’s definitely perfect for a Christmas roast this season, or for lunch and dinner on any given day!

I’ve been to this Bumpkin restaurant twice now; the first time on the day after it had first opened. I really like this restaurant — I think it’s quite simple and relaxed. I like the open kitchen, although both times I have been facing the head chef, which scares me(purely because I’ve watched a lot of Hell’s Kitchen!). Anyhow, the service here is friendly and unintimidating. I like the menu because it changes with the seasons(although, I’ve yet to witness the change). We’ve tried a few things on the menu now — the portebello mushroom is a favourite, but hands-down the best dish on the menu is the pork belly! It comes beautifully presented with two generous pieces of pork belly, on top of some savoy cabbage and purée of celeriac. Really homely and really tasty(the pork crackling is done really well!). Mmm… I’m getting hungry just thinking about it! I’ve not tried desserts yet, because we’re always too full to get there. But the descriptions are amazing — there at least 3 – 4 that I want to try including sticky toffee pudding and chocolate cake… now that I think about it, maybe it’s worth another visit this week!

I’ve never eaten at a Bumpkin restaurant before, but it looked interesting as I wandered the ‘street’ part of Westfield Stratford city. The food is all about British-ness and the menu gives you locations in the UK associated with each dish. There are specials every day of the week and on Sunday they have roast dinner. I had a roast, and it was nice enough, if a little on the small side compared to those I’ve had at my favourite gastropubs around London. It was, however, quite pricey considering the size. I’d be interested in coming back and trying the usual menu items though and they seem to have lunchtime offers on weekdays which may be worth trying if I’m ever here midweek during the day(doubtful but maybe). I like the décor, it’s one of those«let’s make a brand new building look old» jobs with a large open kitchen and a nice outdoor seating area as well. Service was good and friendly, though getting the bill(as is often the case In London) was a little bit challenging.
