I think it’s about time someone wrote an updated review for Candy Bar. It’s had a lot of changes in the past year or so. Out with the pink, out with the pool table(sad times) and in with the new owners who know a thing or two about building a successful brand on the scene. Not saying you’ll get an accurate depiction of the place, but if you’re thinking about venturing here for the first time, it’s funny to watch the channel 5 programme Candy Bar Girls. As you can guess, based on some of the gay girls in London that have some loose connection to the bar. Candy bar has a packed list of weekly events, there’s always something going on. Karaōke, Comedy, Garage nights and the usual. You tend to find with Candy, it depends on the night what sort of crowd you’ve got in. If you do go on the Saturday, as I normally do, you will get the munchkins and the predators My usual visit goes like this: –Rock up with my best mate about 10pm after pre-drinking somewhere cheaper. Pretty Girls add to the premium of the drinks. –Get in pretty quick as I have a members card. Great way to avoid the queues, plus you don’t really have a choice, you have to sign up as a member. –Quick check various stalkers are not there. –Use the toilets before the predators try to get in with you later on in the night. –Check in bags/coats upstairs as no bags allowed on the dancefloor, then head downstairs. –Buy a drink, have a boogie, get sozzled and after a few hours of being ignored and eviled, eventually the besty will ask random girls if she thinks shes gay to which they always reply ‘No’, and then begins the ‘you have to look like a boy to be accepted’ rant. –Collect our belongings and get a night bus. Good Times.

My girlfriend and I, with a male friend, went to Candy Bar for a drink as she has been going there on and off since the1990s. This time we did not even get in. We were approached by rude door staff from the start, who proceeded to accuse me and my girlfriend of trying to pull girls, which was offensive in the least. They should just say they don’t want men in at all, if that’s the policy, and not be aggressive about it!.Needless to say we will not be going again. It has had poor value for money for a long time now but gets away with it due to monopoly of the lesbian social scene. We ended up having great fun in The Yard and especially The Edge with the polite and inclusive gay men community. Such a shame and embarrassment to lesbians.

Great place to go out with friends after work, friendly staff, quick service, great cocktails. Been in busy and quiet times and always a good atmosphere and good music.

HOOOOO kay. Its probably not a great idea to write a review so long after my single visit to a bar in a city that I have only been once… but i am doing it anyway. hey! hindsight is 20 – 20. I would give it 2 stars… but from what i can tell, London isn’t exactly TEAMING with women’s nights– so they get the«benefit of the desperate». My GF and I were on vacation in London and wanted to track down a fun bar that wasn’t wall to wall dudes. Dudes just sweat too much when they dance. What did we find? Basically we found the old Toast night in Union Square… except everyone had an accent, the drinks were more expensive, and there were strippers in the basement. Totally weird. It took us about 20 minutes to get used to the sheer number of drunk 18 and 19 years olds. They were so very very drunk and so very very aggressive. I am pretty sure they were trying to burn a hole in my ass with their invisible laser beam eyes. We stayed a total of an hour and then ran back to a men’s bar. At least they can dance there– and aren’t interested in what I’ve got to offer. just like Lady Footlocker following in Footlocker’s wake– London has perfected the lady meat market!(that might be a good thing– you decide) wouldn’t go back on vacation but if i lived there… I would probably be there all the time.

I’m coming back to one-up this place… They’ve completely re-vamped the venue, due to the partnership with Gay venue Ku Bar. It looks a lot less trashy(thought they left the stripper pole!) and, oddly enough, the past two times I’ve been in the past two weeks, the clientele seems to have moved up a bit. There’s actually been a nice mix of Lezzers, which I appreciate. Knock on Wood, I might upgrade it again if these improvements keep happening. Get on board, Candy Bar!

Candy has been transformed in many ways since Ku bought it and put the emphasis back in it being a bar, for and run by girls. It’s certainly a lot cooler than it used to be and they’ve finally got rid of the pink! There’s been a lot of effort spent on improving the place, from friendlier staff, better décor and loads more seating, but that’s not the main thing — it’s about putting on great nights for girls and making it accessible for all girls who want to meet others, or simply have fun with their friends. The weekends have DJs playing a real mix of chart, R&B, dance and pop and then there’s Wednesday’s cool electro night EcLekTra. Sundays is a relaxed affair(apart from the bank holidays which have special events) where the cocktail offer of 2 for 1 is extended for a further 2 hours, from 4pm-8pm instead of the daily 4pm-6pm. Membership is a must if you want cheap entry on paying nights(£3 each time) otherwise it’s £5 after 9pm and free before 9pm. It’s also free Sunday to Thursday.

Good colourful bar in a vibrant area! Staff are welcoming and the atmosphere is friendly. I would have given 5 stars if they did not stop doing the cocktails shots. Slippery Nipple was my favourite. It is cheap to get it in, the music is very versatile, it is open everyday from 12pm and there is a lot of eye candy. Check it out! I have!

Let start off with the good things. The drinks are relatively cheap and they have an energy drink called p*ssy which is pretty amusing way to order a drink. Now with the bad. I’ve never been so molested in my life. Not even at a straight club wearing what amounts to my birthday suit and a smile. The women here were way too aggressive. I don’t mind flirting but licking my neck seconds after I met you is a bit much. The music was okay. Nothing that exciting really. Minus the groping, it was a mediocre night out. I can’t say that I’ll ever return.

I feel like a terrible gay for giving Candy Bar a low score — I mean, there aren’t many lesbian bars around, I should be giving CB my support. But there’s really no excuse. As a student, I found CB incredibly overpriced — though by no means atypical of Soho. The crowd tends to be frequented more by women in their late-twenties, or gay tourists who don’t know any better and are relying on their guidebooks for women-friendly bars. The music is typical chart-topper or cheese stuff, but the dancefloor never really heats up — there’s a really cliquey vibe to the girls here, though hey, you could say that of any lesbian bar. There’s nothing really BAD about CB, it’s just mediocre. If this was a straight bar and not a bar frequented by girls desperate to patronise a lesbians-only venus, it would go under. If you’re of a younger(and more cash-strapped) disposition, you might want to head to a mixed gay bar, or just pre-drink at yours if you’re heading out to Popstarz. To be honest, if you’re young and queer, you’re probably better off heading to East London. Ever since Ghetto got kicked out of its Tottenham Court Road location a few years ago by the railworks, there hasn’t been much for young ‘uns in Soho.

I really like this club and after having visited with my girlfriend twice now at both quiet and busy times, it’s safe to say we’ll be going regularly. It’s free entry before 9pm and then £5 after. The bar staff were efficient and friendly, the drinks didn’t burn a hole in my pocket and the anything-goes dress code makes for a comfortable night out. We’re yet to try the other two levels of the club, but this one’s definitely a keeper. I’m excited to see what else Candy has to offer!

Friendly bar with a great atmosphere. The pink theme is a little annoying as I hate pink but that’s the only flaw I can think of! Great crowd too ;-)

Candy Bar is a pretty funny place. I often feel disappointed by the lesbian nightlife, etc. and this was only a slight disappointment. There is a bar, an upstairs with a pool table and a dance floor on the lower floor. Covers most ground-but is kind of small. I have been twice this month and it seems like its mostly the same crowd, which is good and bad. I get mixed feelings, but it’s nice to have a lesbian bar amongst all the gay bars in the city. Fun but not too fun.

A solid lesbian bar in London! Drinks were well priced and the girls were all cool. You can get your dance or your flirt on in the basement. Kick it with your friends at the bar as you walk in or in the lounge where the music isn’t too loud and the lights are perfect dimmed. Their DJ’s were on a roll and pretty much played some of the best music to keep your dance on. A must stop to check out the local gals!

The Candy Bar is pure trashand I love it. It’s a lesbian bar which caters for all women and male friend are allowed in if accompanied. With the gay scene in Soho being so male dominated it’s comforting to know there’s something out there for us lady lovers. I’ve never actually watched a stripper show, I might just need to put that on the ‘to do list’. The drinks are expensive as doubles are served, there’s normally an entrance fee of at least £5 and the bar staff are generally funky and friendly.

We kind of stumbled across the place and decided to have a drink there with our friends who have been there before. I expected a bit more of the Candy Bar but I was not dissapointed at all. The bar area is small but definately cozy which is great for such a well known bar. The staff did not make us feel unwelcome or uncomfortable at all, which is a nice change. There is a coat closet on the 1st floor and a pool table which was quite in demand when we were there. We only had a few drinks which was good and reasonably priced and did not stay for the party, such a shame. All and all, we had a great relaxed time out at the Candy Bar.

DieTreppe hoch gibt’s einen kleinen Chill-Out Bereich. Die Treppe runter geht’s in Basement, wo eine weitere Bar ist sowie die Tanzfläche. Die DJanes legen meistens richtig super auf, zudem gibt es wechselnde Aktionen, wie z.B. Karaōke oder Striptease.

The Candy Bar has long been London’s premier lesbian venue and has been going strong since it first opened in 1996. The bar staff have funky hair and baggy jeans, the strippers long legs and bright lip stick and with a different theme every day Its easy to see why the Candy bar packs the punters in. Situated over three floors you can choose to bump and grind down stairs, chill out with a cocktail on the middle floor or shoot some pool upstairs, either way a good night is normally guaranteed for all. Although the venue is aimed at gay girls, man are welcomed as guests and should have to problems from anyone. Certain night have a door charge after 10pm

The Candy Bar is trashy, tacky, has strippers… and it’s great! As long as you’re not going there thinking you’re going to have a quiet, sophisticated drink then you’re going to have a great time. I went there with a group of lesbians and although I didn’t see any men in there that night, I understand that the are allowed in. It’s £5 to get in and then extra if you want to go down and see the strippers which I recommend, not because I’m a pervert but because it just made the night even madder. The crowd was friendly, no trouble. The music was good too although I’d recommend you get there fairly early as it is extremely small. Would go there again.

this is a pink bar;mainly a lesbian bar, but you are allowed to bring a male as long as you are accompanied by a lady. There is a dance floor in the basement, and Saturdays there is a strip tease. During the week its more of a mixed bar. the staff are funky and friendly. The crowd is quite laid back and friendly as well. Before 9pm, its £5.
