Fuller’s beer and great rock music in a nice environment. while there it was played the Doors, Jefferson Airplane and Credence. Can I ask for more? oh, yeah John Lennon used to hang out here too.

The place is brilliant! Mixed crowed and great atmosphere. A friend form LA came for a visit and thanks to him I checked in:). Not my usual spot yet super-nice vibe, hyper crowded and very loud(good) music.

Good vibe, good people, good music… Loud! Love it! The Guinness is the best I’ve had in London, clean lines and taps, no metallic taste. I’ll take another!

I really like this pub, the atmosphere and music are brilliant — its full of character and everyone always seems to be having a great time — including the bar staff. My only small criticism would be that is gets very crowded and if you are not lucky enough to get a seat you can spend your evening getting bumped and clinging for dear life to your drink. Worth it though.

one of the best rock bars in the city. I am from NYC, from the scene and highly recommend this. I was there 2005 last and heard it’s still rocking. Ready for a 10 year anniversary.

Traditional pub that hasn’t fallen the way of the rest of Soho as overly pretentious. Dark wood, crap lighting and awful patterned carpet, just as it should be. Very friendly bartenders, great selection of beer and a nice crowd. Nice to find a good British pub still in Central London

Characterful little pub in central Soho with traditional dark wood décor and the ubiquitous ragged carpets underfood and well-worn furniture. Has the feel of a ‘local’ pub despite being in central London. Good spot for the solo traveller with friendly staff and high stool seating at a window table where you can read a paper or scan the world wide interwebs on your phone. We were just in for a drink, and they had a lovely array of ales. Indecision struck so we were offered a couple of wee tasters. I can’t remember which ales I had but I can say for sure that they were pretty darned perfect. Recommended.

Came here while visiting London with my husband and had a total blast. Great beers on tap, friendly bartenders, especially Colm! We will definitely be back when visiting London again.

The Ship is a great traditional old London boozer! From the buzzy atmosphere to the worn and sticky carpet this place is what most pubs in London used to be like. Coming in here the other night I was reminded about how bright the lighting can be in traditional London places-truly the antithesis of dimly lit LA dive bars. I suppose one of the upside to this is if you get chatting to somebody that you find attractive there will be no surprises when you take them out into the daylight! There is a slight juxtaposition between the beautifully crafted Windows, old-fashioned bar, traditional fixtures… and the more modern gadgets and knickknacks behind the bar area. As with the majority of places around Soho there was a mix of foreigners and UK natives here which led to a cool atmosphere, which turned to a buzzing throng as the night progressed. As a side note, The Ship was a real fixture as a place for musicians to congregate, especially as it was right along from the original Marquee venue.

A great pub, an institution to many of its regulars. The first thing to say about the ship is how good the music is — every time I’ve been in there I’ve been happy. Last night they played a couple of great old tracks by the Jam. The atmosphere is friendly, they’ve got a decent range of beers and the prices are pretty good for the area.

Best pub in London. They’re always playing decent punk when we go in there. Also, for all you Clash fans, this was the place Bernie Rhodes told them he wanted ‘complete control’ — Pretty cool.

Kinda a funky pub for a Friday night. I came here during pirate night and the place was dressed up like a pirate. Brings me back to the Unilocal Key West Pillar and Plung Pub Crawl many moons ago. Okay… enough of my babble and back to the review. It’s a bit more bar like rather than pub which is what I personally like about it. Same type of beer as all other pubs. Nothing really unique about that be the atmosphere is bar like. Kinda a cool crowd… then I was asked to leave. he he. Just kidding. Good pub, go there!

I don’t know why I am always a bit skeptical of pubs in Soho, maybe because I consider Soho to be more of a bar/club scene. But this small dark pub was a fun time. Good tunes, good service, and a good crowd. What more could one want?

Quite a nice pub. The fish and chips were quite good, but not extraordinary. I had a Guinness here… after being told that Guinness in the UK is somehow different(it isn’t). The place was really quite packed from 1 – 2 pm on a Thursday, but it cleared out quite nicely after 2.

When ever I am in London, no matter where I am staying I always make a point to head up to Wardour street, and get some pints and super tasty whiskey. Its a great mixed crowd, Rockers, to preppy it just a fantastic place to spend some quid for great drinks and good talks. If this was the kind of Ship the Royal Navy had in its fleet, I’d sign up!

I used to come here quite often when I first moved to London(I could say this about the whole West Endnot just this pub), but then there was an unnecessary unpleasantness linked to a request for ID. and the pub stopped being a haunt for me. especially as I grew weary of this part of London. But I’ve now been back. the jerk of a bartender and my cherubic appearance are both now long gone and I can remember what I liked about this place, namely the good old fashioned pub appearance and the quality music selection. The Fullers beers are another plus too.

One of the worst things about leaving the UK was saying goodbye to my old local The Ship, and it’s one of the first stops when I’m visiting London. It’s a place with two halves. In the day it’s a quietish pub serving the local office workers with good Fullers beer and very basic lunch food(the fish finger sandwich is excellent, fish and chips not so much). It’s the only pub in Soho that seems to give a toss about its beer and while it does serve fizzy crap as well the place is worth a visit just for the ESB. In the evening the pub’s clientèle changes radically. A lot of the old Intrepid Fox crew still hang out there, the pub is always rammed and standing outside is often the only option early in the evening. But who cares, the music’s excellent, the bar staff are friendly and there’s even a cover for the smoking area in case it rains.

The Ship is my favourite pub in Soho. It’s retained its traditional décor. No trendy up-marketing here. Wooden shelves and tall stools, cast-iron tables and short stools. But most importantly some simple, fine ales on tap and a sufficient variety of booze behind the bar. There’s nothing fancy, just the necessities. It’s the vibe I like. I’ve seen everything from suited businessmen to goths to a Foo Fighter in there. The bartenders can be as punked-up as the clientele, but they’re pros and a good laugh. They happily kept safe behind the bar — and for some weeks — a gift a friend left for me. I once asked them to pop an entire Black Sabbath CD in the player for me, and they did. This isn’t a beautiful pub, nor a quiet one, nor one for great food. It’s for drinking, meeting people, watching people, and for the cool to try to act uncool(and vice versa). There’s only a few yards of cramped standing space outside, so don’t come here for the fresh air. The toilets are tiny, too. Also: it’s not open on Sunday. But if you want a funky downtown spot to meet friends and booze amongst a diverse crowd, you could do much, much worse than the Ship. And you might get to listen to some Sabbath, if you’re lucky.

Fucking hell mate! I lived in London for four years(1994 – 1998) and this was my «local». There are a lot of things that happened in this public that I’m glad I can’t remember. Ian the landlord was a good bloke(is he still there?), even though the cheap bastard rarely bought us a round. _____
