This place deserves 0 stars. Food is so bad I couldn’t eat any of it. Portion is so small I can’t even see it. It’s really nasty food. I should’ve gone to McDonald’s.

Good size portion for the price. The beef stew noodles contained the authentic flavor but it weren’t exactly Hong Kong noodles. Overall quality was a lower standard vs NYC. Maybe I just expected too much. Choose duck to be cold or hot, serious? Who wants to eat cold roasted duck? C’mon man

It was a mediocre place with ok noodles. It was open late at night so if you’re looking for a night option in Chinatown!

Terrible noodles for a place that advertises it prominently(ok, I shouldn’t expect much from a Cantonese restaurant, but the noodles are simply flavorless and some of the worst that I’ve come across). There are at least two other places nearby that serve significantly better noodles. Lying employees(two servers lied to me about separate stuff at the time that I was here). Would not recommend.

Very westernized Chinese food. Dishes are overly sweet and fried. Says opened till midnight but then kitchen closes at 10:30

Let me just start off by saying that for the price, this place is pretty good. You get a decent sized amount of food for around 7 – 10 pounds per dish(some less, some more). I personally wasn’t the biggest fan, but that’s conditional on what I ordered: stir-fried tofu with baby corn and mushrooms. I thought the dish wasn’t very well-flavored, and the tofu wasn’t as soft on the inside as I would have liked. The corn was also a bit soggy and the sauce covering the dish was strangely watery and gloopy at the same time. Also, when I dine, I value the experience too — not just the food. This place had really quick service but I didn’t quite feel as welcomed, if you know what I mean. Overall this place definitely satisfies any asian food craving you might have, but just don’t expect too much.

Arrived here after walking up and down Chinatown. Located towards the back and not standing out. The restaurant is on the smaller side but was quaint and comfy. The Bbq in the window looked yummy but we started off with wonton noodle soup and followed with roast pork tofu hot pot and seafood chow mein — Hong Kong Style. The wonton was decent but contained mostly meat no shrimp — but the broth was yummy on a cold day. The other two entrees were solid and tasty and the hot pot included yummy black mushrooms. The seafood chow mein had generous amounts of seafood and the gravy was tasty. Overall the meal was satisfying and the service was solid by our waitress. BTW they accept credit cards too.

I’ve been to Canton a few times now and see this little restaurant as a go to for authentic canton and Sichuan food in Chinatown. Highlights this evening for me and my family included canton duck — rich deep red sauce with a hint of sweetness complimented perfectly with garlic pak choi, special fried noodles and spicey chilli oil on rice. Washed down with some white tea it was a sensation for my pallete and I look forward to returning to try out more of this wonderful food. If you’re going to a show in the west end i’d highly recommend

Bog-standard Chinese food; traditional and economic this restaurant is good if you have a craving for Chinese food one day but don’t want to spend too much and are not too bothered by old plates, old chopsticks, old furniture and somewhat poor service.

My go to place for a no nonsense Chinese in Chinatown. £5 bowls of food to lobster noodles, they have most Cantonese classics on the menu and taste how they should. Good portions, sizes and flavours in an unpretentious setting.

If you want an amazing meal at the perfect price, and don’t want tasteless food that costs at twice the amount because the outside of the restaurant looks«posh» then this is for you! Quick service and I’ve never had a problem in all the years I’ve been going. Also I’d like to add that I actually like the way it looks from the outside.

My family & I visited London for 3 days during our Euro trip & we ended up eating here 3 times! What brought us back was their BBQ soy sauce! Yum! All we craved for throughout our Euro trip was… Canton & of course we went back on the day before flying out! Must-haves at Canton is the BBQ Duck &BBQ crispy pork(the ones hanging in front of the windows) & of course the sauce that comes with the BBQ rice plate. Can’t really comment on anything else in the restaurant, as we ate nothing but… We’re Hong Kong-nese from LA& we know good chinese BBQ. Even the restaurants in Chinatown Amsterdam or Sam-Woo in LA can’t compare! In fact, they are even better than some of the restaurants in HK. I’ll definitely be back to London if not simply to eat at Canton again! We miss you already, Canton!!!

Mediocre food. Had roast duck. Tough bird and over cooked. Soup noodle was too salty with strange dark colored broth. The check(bill) added service charge of 12.5% automatically.

Decent prices with a huge variety of dishes to choose from. You can order dumplings, noodle soups, Chinese BBQ, fried rice, fried noodles, and even crab + lobster here. As a California native who can easily access delicious Asian food back at home, the chicken fried noodles tasted like home– but only for a short period of time. After several bites, the whole dish became too salty. I’m not sure if they cater to non-Chinese tastes, as they only figured out after we paid the bill that I was Chinese, but it was definitely way too much sodium. I even found a tiny ball of chicken bouillon MSG seasoning granules at the bottom of my plate… Caution: they put in a 10% service charge. If I do come back, it probably won’t be for any fried noodles or rice. Or if I do, I will tell them less salt beforehand.

Totally baffled… did I go to a different restaurant than the other reviewers? We were exhausted and cold after a long, LONG day of sightseeing, and I was desperately craving a bowl of won ton noodle soup. I had a long list of restaurant recommendations we’d gathered before our trip, but we were too tired to track them down, and were in the middle of Chinatown — seemed like a good time to be spontaneous. I checked Unilocal and chose Canton based on the reviews here — alas, somehow I missed the fact that my Unilocal friend and London ambassador Yee Gan O. had an Asian food list. I am sure he would have saved us from this utter disaster. We started with some fried potstickers, which were okay — the skins were a bit on the thick side, but the filling was decent, and tasted like it had a bit of fresh ginger in it — not bad. Then our won ton noodle soup arrived. My husband and I each took a bite of won ton, and simultaneously and without saying anything to one another, both of us tried to politely remove the bites from our mouths and began to examine them. The meat inside was clearly undercooked, to the point of being both pink and mealy in texture. I waved over a waiter and told him I thought the pork was undercooked, pointing to my pink, mealy won ton innards. He said, «It’s supposed to look that way. It’s pork.» And walked away. We were starving, so we ate the noodles and sipped some of the broth(which was itself sadly lacking in flavor), but left all of our won ton behind. Another waiter came by and asked if everything was okay — when I told him our won ton were undercooked, he said he’d remove one from our bill. He didn’t. We were only visiting London, so we’ll never have occasion to come here again, but I wanted to write this review so that others might avoid making the same mistake. There are way too many fantastic restaurants in London to waste a meal or your money here.

My first meal at Canton the other day was a really successful one. It’s more expensive than Hung’s or Wong Kei down the road, but the food was impressive and the service friendly and helpful. The three of us ordered Ma Po dofu, pork belly and preserved vegetable hot-pot(which the waiter was worried we wouldn’t enjoy, due to our tables collective whiteness) but when we convinced him otherwise, he seemed happy and even asked us to change our other order of roast duck, for his recommendation — the deep fried duck,(apparently a lot better). Okay! The Ma Po tofu was alright, it needed extra spicing with the(really hot, and really, really good) chilli oil on the table and after that it perked up just fine. The pork belly hot pot was a triumph. Packed full of sour preserved vegetables and mouth coating, melty, fatty pork it was our firm favourite dish. The deep fried duck recommended by our waiter was a great move, gnawing oil covered, rich meat from around the bones was the kind of eating I like. Washed down with Chinese beer and tea, we left, very full(the three of us couldn’t quite finish our shared dishes!) and happy and planning another visit soon.

Canton is a restaurant I have been going to for years. Quite simply, if you want a quick bowl of soy chicken noodle soup or plate of cold cantonese duck on rice, and a bit of salt and chili squid if you’re feeling a little hung over, there isn’t a better place. Service is abrupt, tablecloths are paper, spoons and chopsticks are worn, it’s often a little cold, but who cares? The meats — which the guy in the shop window expertly chops to the delight of the tourists outside — are second to none. There are no pretentions here. The meat is chopped on the bone, courses arrive together, you mostly have to share your table. But you feel like you could be in deepest china when you eat here. The soy chicken noodle soup is a dish I have 3 times a week. The veritable ‘meal in itself’. Wonderful fresh noodles topped with a little chinese cabbage, a few spring onions and then delicious quarter of soy chicken chopped into pieces through the bone. And a powerful salty duck stock that stands up to the ridiculously fierce chili oil on the table(seriously, if you venture there you literally only need a dab. It will blow your socks off) £6.50. Job’s a goodun. You need to use your hands a lot and the table cloth becomes extremely messy, but no worries, they screw it up and throw it away when you’re gone. The salt chili squid is another triumph. Perfectly cooked squid coated in a floury salty light crispy crust and served with the tossed remains of onion and chili. Served in big lumps, a real mouthful, every one a joy. There are things to avoid. Ubiquitous singapore noodles and sweet and sour stuff. The old classics. I simply wouldn’t bother. They are there to appease the tourists. The cold meats hanging in the window are what this place does best. have them with soup or rice. Don’t go in unless you’re hungry. And expect change from a tenner. That’s what eating in chinatown is all about and anyone who reviews this place badly probably just hasn’t entered into the spirit of the place. It’s been run by the same owners for years who beneath their harsh shouty exteriors are charming and if you’re regular enough they will knock you up half portions when you’re by yourself and do you stuff that’s slightly off piste. Dont’ ask too many questions of the staff. They struggle with English. Just do a lot of pointing and a lot of miming and everyone gets there in the end. If you can be bothered to read through my many reviews you will see that I’ve dined in most places and like going on fine dining soirees. But I have to say the older I get the more I lean towards the magic of a place like this. A place where they feed you up with good authentic fare and churn you out happy at the end. This place is amongst my favourite restaurants of all time because of that. I’ll be there tomorrow if anyone wants some recommendations.

My family have been coming here since I was born. I was born 1985… NUFFSAID methinks! It may not be the prettiest Chinese restaurant in China Town, but they serve the BESTBBQ&CRISPY Pork on rice. HANDSDOWN! A lot of restaurants have come and gone over the years in China Town, but Canton has stood the test of time. Times where we thought the end was nigh, but prevailed through! I’ve been to the other restaurants in China Town and NONE compare to how good Canton’s food is. They never hit that spot that Canton ALWAYS fulfils. Over the years I’ve noticed the changes, maybe not so much with the décor as I did find some family pictures from ’92 and they still use the same bowls and plates, ah love it. Sadly the day I noticed the change in the Won Ton Soup my heart broke. They’ve changed the recipe of the Won Tons and it wasn’t for the greater good. I will always have my memories. It’s a family establishment. I love Leon & Van(I’m pretty sure it’s Van… I’ve been calling him that for the past how many years) They are so friendly and KNOW who their customers are. The big boss lady(i never found out her name) swans in from time to time. She loves my Mum, always gives her extras. I usually bump into people I know, finding out they are avid regulars too, so much so, my friend started a Facebook appreciation group. EDIT: I am EXTREMELY sad to report that Canton is closing down THISFRIDAY(23/12/2012). I was there on Sunday and Ban(so it is Ban not Van) told us, I almost cried in my Won Ton Soup. I will now be lost without Canton. The people who have bought the place will keep the name Canton, but it will not be any of the same staff, so therefore it will not be the same. Going to order as much as i can… anything left over will be taken home and frozen, only to be thawed out and eaten before I die. I lie, I will most probably eat it on my journey home while crying.

We dived in here last night with only 45 minutes before theatre show was due to start. Turned out to be the perfect choice; the food was top notch and arrived quickly. Great bean curd dishes for vegetarians and cheap prices, especially for West End. Décor is no frills and so is the service, so not a romantic dinner option. The place is clearly popular with a broad mix of customers. The waitresses are particularly stony faced and the manager has a kind of Chinese Basil Fawlty thing going on. He’s on first name terms with all the regulars and can’t do enough for them. Newcomers(including us) are eyed with suspicion, almost contempt. It’s worth going just to experience ;)

Oh man, terrible. Ok, this is a 2.5 star. Unilocal,I think it’s about time you allow people to do half stars. Anyway, I protested like hell not to eat here, but my parents seek Chinese food wherever they go, so we ate here. NOT a good idea. Food was exceeding bland, although cheap(around 5 pounds for a large helping). My black bean beef chow fun perked up with a little bit of hot sauce, but the house special noodles(both dry and soup) were not good. Neither was my sister’s BBQ pork noodle soup. Meat was tough, didn’t seem fresh. Stay away. Also, don’t order the BBQ duck. Let this be a lesson to all: Chinese food is not resistant to bad cooking.
