Just off of Piccadilly Circus, Clockjack is really conveniently located for the theatre crowd. Part of Clockjack’s charm is the atmosphere — it’s relaxed and down-to-earth, offering a simple fare and a wide selection of craft beers. I wasn’t able to sample the selection of lagers, but was given a few glasses of the house red, while the appetisers began to arrive. The homemade hummus(£2.25) and baba ghanoush(£2.50) were delicious, and the pitta bread really looked mouthwatering — fluffy, toasted and warm. The next few dishes to arrive were the buttermilk chicken bites(£5.95) and the chilli and barbecue chicken wings(£5.95 for 5). We were all divided on which flavour we preferred, although I definitely preferred the chilli. The wings were served with America’s favourite sauce — Ranch, with a few sticks of celery. Clockjack is home to the only vertical rotisserie in Europe, an interesting tidbit from the manager of the restaurant. Like everything at Clockjack, the chicken is simply seasoned, marinated in brine for a few hours before cooking. The chicken was moist and delicious, with a crispy skin served with a simple gravy. I was a fan of the gravy, though some of the others prefer theirs thicker. I was given some gluten-free fries, with a side of coleslaw, Jim Beam sweetcorn and Southern style beans. If you’re looking for a unique dining experience, then you should venture elsewhere — but if you want delicious, simple, American-style comfort food in the heart of the theatre district then Clockjack is the place for you.

My fiancé and I were recommended this place by someone we met at a bar while enjoying a weekend in London. Went in for lunch the next day and really enjoyed it! Delicious, hot chicken and very fresh salads. Lots of options for plenty of palates, from mild to spicy and from fried to baked. Extremely enjoyable and will be back next time we are in London!

Used to be much better. The menu changed and unfortunately the quality dropped. I think they are going to lose one of their regular customers. Won’t go there anymore.

I would probably rate Clockjack as a 3.5 but sadly that isn’t an option. The food is actually pretty good with the chicken quite juicy and the sweet potato fries are really nice. We had baba ganoush with pitta bread and buttermilk chicken bites for starters. The chicken bites were OK but the BBQ sauce was far too sweet for me. Again the bab ganoush was just OK, probably lacking a bit of seasoning but the charred lines on the pitta bread overpowered everything else. There’s a decent selection of drinks and if you are after spirits they are really good value. The service was fast and I didn’t feel like we were being rushed which is a good thing. The restaurant itself seems to be in a bit of a transition phase with boxes of drinks stacked all around the end of the bar and the windowsill next to me was full of lemonade bottles. Not a great impression. Overall Clockjack is OK. Decent chicken but pretty pricey for what it is

This place is great. It’s on tastecard which results in really great value food, it’s cosy without being too crowded and the staff are efficient and friendly. The food is GREAT. It’s not a fancy place but does free-range(quite right too) chicken in many different forms. Quarter, half and whole roast chicken being very popular, I had the chicken club sandwich, also great. Sides, desserts, starters all show a good variety without the menu being crazy busy. I would definitely eat here again(and I rarely get chicken when I eat out!).

Quite tasty chicken wings. I went in here for an afternoon snack while in soho and was definitely pleased. They also have WiFi which is a plus.

Mmeeh. A bit disappointed by clockjack. Overall chicken is very good but the dishes were very simple: chicken burger, cesar salad or ¼ of a roast chicken. Not the most exciting meal I have. It’s a bit pricey for just chicken and waiters were not super friendly(we were quite rushed to order)

Posh KFC. What’s not to like? Chill wings are basically what other restaurants call buffalo wings so if you like those then that’s your choice. Good for a swift meal between beer venues too.

Good lord, this was some good chicken! The portions are large… the food is beyond words… and I can’t wait to go back! Highly recommend the homemade gravy as it’s super yummy!

What a hidden gem! Thank god for Unilocaltober, otherwise would have took me a hell of a long time to discover this place. It’s tucked away on a little side street right by Piccadilly and damn what a place you have to find, their chicken is easily up there with the best in London.: woo woo! Being Unilocaltober, I decided to get the wings with peri peri because I’m all about the spice and got a side of my personal favourite, sweet potato fries. This was simply an inspired choices, the fries were deliciously crispy and utterly addictive. I wish all places made fries like this! The wings were just the right blend of hot. Hot enough so I can taste the spice, but not so much that I’m running for water, and was able to have a little bit of hot sauce on the side for dipping. Price wise, everything was on point for London. Similar price to nandos but just on another level for quality. I’ll definitely be back soon to try the rotisserie chicken, which I’ve been told is simply ridiculous, so fricking good.

This spot is buzzing with a casual cool crowd and tunes on the background — the hot wings are a must order — spicy and delicious! The quarter chicken is HUGE, juicy and delicious — very reasonable prices as well.

The taste is worth it… but it’s really not a cheep eat! I haven’t been a fan of chicken for a long time. I’m not really into white meat — which I think that’s because usually chicken is done so badly! Most chicken places rely on the sauce, but I think you should be able to eat something genuinely tasty instead of having to rely on seasoning! Protein with a coating is not my idea of great food! That’s why I went for the chicken quarter at Clockjacks, I wanted to try without fakery and I have to say the chicken without sauce was tender, plump and melt in the mouth. I was surprised by the amount of real meat, that chicken can have such a nice flavour when it’s just been prepared in a salt bath. Apparently that’s all you need for great chicken… not a complicated marinate. I’ve been to Nando’s before and whilst I’ve enjoyed the taste, I’ve never been a fan, and I can see how people would compare these guys with them. They have sides and salads much in the same vein, however the chicken here just stands for itself and I can’t see a comparison. Nando’s chicken without the goo I suspect would just be nasty, and it’s the opposite here — I think this is because of the difference between rotisserie and grilled chicken! That said, I have to give this place a lower review than I’d like — and that’s really just about cost — a quarter chicken by itself without anything is £5.75… and whilst you get a great portion size of chicken for this, and the sides are quite big, I think they’re a bit over priced — with £3.95 for sweetcorn and £3.20(£4.25 for sweet potato), Fries and having to pay 75p extra for a choice of sauce. So your meal can get rather expensive very quickly.

Delicious casual chicken joint in the middle of Soho/Theatre District! We stopped in to grab some fried chicken pieces and received our takeaway order in just about 5 minutes. The chicken was delicious — small crunchy pieces sprinkled with sea salt. For only about 5 quid, there was quite a lot of chicken in each order! Would highly recommend if you are looking for a casual meal or quick snack in Soho!

I had the club sandwich which was really good oh and for starters bread and hummus which was amazing! I had a voucher for this place so the bill was not to bad however if I didn’t have the voucher I think it would be quite expensive for what is it.

So last year’s CHUNGS chicken and cocktails was champion. This year. The chicken failed us and I stand by my word– I should’ve gone to nandos. Yes. There I said it. So 10.95 gets you half a chicken. Like literally that’s it. You then order sides which cost extra and the sauce that costs extra. So plain chicken. Value for money this is not. I mean at least at nandos you get a choice of baste and two sides for that price. This is just white chicken. At least it wasn’t dry. I can’t say that’s something to cluck about. AND50p for a tiny pot of ranch. No. Just no. And the sides– they got all our sides wrong– I had to repeat and ask again so many times. We sent away like 3 fries because we had asked for sweet potato fries which turned out to be SOGGY. The southern beans were just posh baked beans and the chicken sides took a day and an age to come. Did they have to hatch it? Apparently we underpaid the bill and it turns out they had put £26 service on top even though we all put in extra for the tip?! I don’t even know. Eggstremely disappointed. Should’ve gone to nandos. The saving grace was the excellent espresso martini… i would have been not as chilled without the alcohol FORSURE.

The food was great… the service was not. We headed to Clockjack as a party of 10 for Yinnie C’s birthday and while we had high hopes because she has a gift when it comes to finding amazing chicken places, Clockjack just fell a bit short. I arrived early and after some confusion when I had to give the reservation name four times because she couldn’t find it on the list(not sure how my repeating it helped, but whatever), we were seated at the enormous table of 12 in the middle and asked if we wanted a drink. When we looked at the list, it seemed to mainly be beer and wine, but they did have three cocktails on the list. Winner. I went for the szarlotka, an apple pie cocktail served in a jar and it was hands down delicious. No complaints so far. As we were half an hour early, we also decided to order some buttermilk chicken bites to tide us over until everyone else got here. Half an hour later and half a cocktail gone, we were still waiting for our bites when the others started turning up. Cue an awkward moment 10 minutes later when we were served food while the others were still looking at their menu and greeting each other. I mean, really? Half an hour for a small bowl of chicken bites? Once everyone had arrived and ordered a round of szarlotkas(I mean it, they were bringing them out constantly), we took a look down the menu and between us probably ordered everything on it. Now, I can appreciate that with a table of 10, it can be difficult to keep straight who ordered what. But when the food started coming out, it turned into a complete mess. Half the main dishes came out before the other half. The starters came out halfway through the main course. And they brought us twice the amount of regular fries and missed three servings of sweet potato fries off the list, so people had eaten half their dinner before the side turned up. Complete. Mess. The food was good, sure. My chicken club sandwich was nicely toasted and packed with filling. And just enough to even split between two as a couple of friends did further down the table. The chips were seasoned, crunchy and fluffy in the middle, and the buttermilk chicken bites were so juicy and packed with flavour I could have had them for breakfast, lunch and dinner for a week. But the chaos of the food coming out slightly ruined it. Yin had to spend her birthday meal constantly repeating herself about what we’d ordered and what we were still waiting for. That’s not her job. It’s theirs. And especially not on her birthday. When it came time to pay, we had another headache too. We each paid seperately because some people had more than others and it didn’t make sense to split it equally, and we all overpaid to give them a bit of a tip too… but when they calculated it up, we were still over £20 short of the total amount. We were obviously all confused since we’d all overpaid, putting in £70 instead of the £63 we owed, etc. Instead of trying to help us work it out or just being patient, there were a lot of grumpy glares and ‘You still owe £23.’ from the staff, which made the whole thing uncomfortable at the end. Eventually we worked out it was because they’d added a £26 service charge on, which looked like another item on the receipt instead of being in a seperate area, so we’d all scanned it and picked out our food, thinking it was someone else’s. We paid it, but it was definitely grudgingly at that point. I mean, they’d got our order wrong. They’d taken ages to get our food out to us, all at different times so we didn’t actually eat together and the waitress had definite attitude with Yin when she explained what we were missing and when we couldn’t work out the final bill. Why should we have to pay service charge for that? I always thought you tipped if you had good service, not because it was compulsory and snuck onto the menu. I think I’d probably go back as part of a smaller group to see what the service was like when it’s just two or three of you. But as a large group? Never again.

I really want to like this place more than I do based solely on the quality of the roast chicken alone. Unfortunately, that’s really the only win to be had here — especially considering the high price. Arrived around 4.30 and were told at the door the restaurant was fully booked from 5.30 onward, so we would have to be in and out. No problem, as we just wanted a quick late lunch. Did think it kind of odd that a place that feels very«fast food» would even take bookings though as it doesn’t feel like that kind of place — more like a small Nando’s packed with too many tables. So, the roast chicken was actually great, the sweet potato fries were solid, but the fried chicken burger was only okay because it was overcooked and dry. Service was pretty bad as well and it took over 20 minutes and asking multiple people multiple times to finally get the bill — after they were so insistent that we be in and out quickly for their fully booked evening service! Too bad — better luck next time!

This had to have been the best Groupon I’ve ever purchased in life. I had a hard time finding this spot for reasons that escape my mind. I waited around for a few minutes for someone to acknowledge me. When that happened I was seated immediately. The guy serving me was from Australia. Such a sweetie and probably one of my favorite servers. He was very accommodating and offered suggestions and recommendations. My meal came with so much food. I was told to eat what I can and box the rest. I had a chicken sandwich which was just divine. He brought by a Red Stripe which was my beer of choice as suggested by him and I think I had the strawberry tea. That could’ve used a bit more sugar for my liking but still delightful. I had a half chicken with gravy which was boxed to go since I eat like a bird and was full off 90% of the sandwich. Didn’t finish the beer, didn’t finish the strawberry tea. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I’m definitely all about coming back here. Hopefully my buddy is still here so we can talk all about that one time he served me and how he probably won’t remember lol. Damn it! I forgot to get my free ice cream. There’s always room for dessert LOL!

What! How have I not reviewed Clockjack Oven yet? Unacceptable, as I love this place. This is a new(ish) restaurant in Soho that prides itself on doing rotisserie style chicken like they do in Spain and other parts of Europe. And I tell you, it is tasty. I didn’t think chicken dishes were all that worth talking about, mind you, but I love coming here and do it often. The chicken is hot and flavourful and tender with great spiced skin. Mmm. Plus, they make all their sauces for said chicken in house, and they are great. Hot sauce. Sweet chili sauce. And… wait for it… ranch sauce! They have ranch sauce!(This may not be exciting for anyone who didn’t grow up in the states but my god I missed ranch sauce.) And the sides? Crispy chips and creamy coleslaw. Oh man, just the way I like it. The atmosphere is sleek modern with grey concrete walls and long wooden tables. Someone else described it as warehouse chic which is the right way to put it. It’s still a very friendly spot though. They are usually running some sort of deal online or a dinner and theatre deal through different websites, so check those out. Really though, this chicken here is top notch and worth coming into for. Did I think I would ever be celebrating chicken? Oh no, but life is funny that way.
