Re open. Best deal are the bento box lunches. The salt and pepper squid is perfect. More of a place to drink then eat.

At the bar a very knowledgeable, yet unassuming bartender prepared a perfect martini with a surprising citrusy gin. Good music and atmosphere. At the restaurant the service wasn’t as remarkable but still nice. The food was all excellent. I’m not a big fan of cod, but the black cod is really juicy and flavourful. I enjoyed the appetisers more, from the prawn and chive dumplings, to the tuna rolls all was very good. I also appreciated that the offered to customise the number of pieces for each dish to accommodate the number of people at the table. Wine was pretty mediocre.

I love this place… only two issues… if you have tap water for the table, it takes forever to get your glass refilled… they should do it regularly… Also, if going for lunch during the week, ask for the set menu which is brilliant… but they don’t give it to you unless you ask. Understandable, as it is exceptional value Bento Box, but a bit naughty that you have to know about it and ask. But apart from that… perfect place.

Great Expresso martini — We only had a drink there, but the service was good and restaurant was packed — always a good sign! Will be back to try the food, as the Asian fusion menu intrigues me!

This place has a lot going for it. I booked a meal here based on positive reviews on Unilocal and was not disappointed. Due to popular demand the only time I managed to get a table was at 6:30pm on the Saturday we chose to visit, but this didn’t bother us. The early arrival meant my wife and I had the restaurant pretty much entirely to ourselves for about an hour before the restaurant filled up. In face the maître d’ managed to get the first laugh out of us when he jokingly told us he had cleared his bookings and reserved the whole restaurant for our special dinner that evening! Staff were attentive, and really very helpful explaining all the items on the menu. There was a nice little glossary at the back of the menu too which explained what some of the more exotic ingredients were. As for the food, this was really very good. If a little pricey, but hey this is the Kings Road, and the food is on par to somewhere like Hakkasan. We started with some Edamame(£3.75), Chilli Salt Squid(£7.50), Gyoza Dumplings(£7), and Crab Tempura($ 14) — which was amazing. For our mains we had the Chopped Salad(£9.75) with an optional extra of Avocado(this salad is to die for!). My main dish was the Beef Toban Yaki(£26.50), and my wife ordered the Chili Tofu(£10). Throw in a few cocktails, glasses of ‘champers’, jasmine rice and a sticky toffee pudding and the total for two was about £140. Not cheap, but food and drinks are really something special here. Will definitely be back.

Ate there last Thursday with my teenager. We both loved it. However we had the early seating(1900) and felt rushed by the waiter. Black Cod is to die for; however the cost seems to bear little resemblance to the size of the dish.

I just had the veggie pad thai yesterday, but it was pretty impressive and there was enough to take home for another meal — which is always a win for me! The service was swift and polite. The only tiny grip was that the tofu in my pad thai was way over-chewy. Otherwise I was pleasantly surprised, considering the other reviews! Another plus for this place is that they have a new loyalty card scheme. After 5 meals(of any value) you get £50 off your 6th. Not bad if you’re eating solo on occasion ;) Whilst in the loo I was also entertained by some tweens talking about how one of them ‘lent’ their mum £400. Only in Chelsea… lol!

This place seems 2 stars through and through. The food is reasonably priced and the dishes sound interesting, but the execution is not all that great. Duck salad was excellent(4 stars), but so many of the other selections were so-so, and the vegetable tempura was very poor.(I had a feeling that the Japanese items were generally weaker than the Thai or Vietnamese style ones). Thai curries were ok. The wine list was massively overpriced, with a markup of over 300% on retail — also it seemed thin on wines which would actually go with the food. I did not take to the atmosphere at all. In contrast to its Notting Hill sibling, the crowd here seemed uncool and, dare I say it, purposely dressed up for a night in town. As my partner said, it was amazing that 90% of the women had straight blonde hair. Finally, the waitress was relentlessly cheery but clearly speaking from a memorised script. Also, it’s clearly policy, if you ask for tap water, to just give you a glass and not leave a jug on the table. We had to ask four times for refills — one of our party was thirsty! In short, we all agreed it was fun to go but none of us have the slightest desire to go back.

Well it’s had i’s problems this place since the fire. But 50% off all food on Sunday was too good to turn down for a cheapskate like me so we gave it a whirl. Of course, with such a bargain on offer we over ordered. Edemame, prawn and chive dumplings and chilli squid and prawn tempura were all solid with good punch accompanying sauces. Followed by a really lovely pad thai, a chicken dish fried in coconut which was in my opinion the best thing there and a duck salad full of fresh flavours. The kitchen had obviously prepared the food with attention and there’s no doubt the ingredients were fresh and zingy. And we paid half price. Bargain! Food for three came to about £35 which frankly was an absolute bargain. If I had paid £70 for the food I wouldn’t have complained although I have to say I wouldn’t have raved. I would have just felt it was fair. Nice shuzzy surroundings very similar to the Notting Hill cousin and proffessional service. Maybe this place is back to somewhere near it used to be. From my visit, regardless of the offer, it certainly seems to be a decent place for a good time with friends or a bit of good healthy fresh food. A stroll down the Kings Rd pretending to be cool to walk it all of and bob’s yer uncle. Give it a go. Nowhere near as bad as the marks it got on London Eating and with the discount an absolute winner.

If you’re looking for a private dining room, then I can’t recommend Eight over Eight’s highly enough. The room is lovely, service fantastic, and if you opt for a set menu it doesn’t have to be hugely expensive… Great for birthdays and special celebrations.

This place gets 3 stars for food and 1 star for an improbable gluten-free menu in a pan-Asian restaurant. The best thing on the menu is the duck salad. It’s pretty swanky and not super-cheap. And no, it’s not authentic Chinese food. But it’s good. It’s solid. It’s comforting in it’s way. And it’s got a bar in the front that’s usually packed. Gluten-free notes: Yes, it’s a pan-Asian restaurant with a gluten-free menu. And very helpful servers.

Trendy, reasonably priced Asian fusion that stacks up. I don’t generally love asian fusion, but this place and Nobu are pretty darn good and this place is way cheaper.

I walked in and thought I had been transported to Notting Hill.. . My husband had mentioned that Eight over Eight was owned by the same people as E&O but I didn’t realize it was EXACTLY the same. It was almost creepy.. . After getting over that I realized it wasn’t a bad thing since I do really like the food at E&O. We had a great meal, the highlights — Black cod and ribs. Lowlights — duck. The drink list is nice, a bunch of creative concoctions, and the classic mojito was very good.

I’ve just been here for a couple drinks. Frankly, it looks a lot cooler from the outside than it does from the inside… from the outside you think, «yeah, this place looks great… let’s definitely go in» and then once inside«wait a second, there’s nothing in here» — it’s just pretty barren and austere… you kind of feel lured in. If you’re just having drinks you have to sit along a long bench just under the window, which is not the most pleasant in the winter because it’s rather cold and drafty. Like every en vogue Asian restaurant, there were a myriad of cocktail options and the drinks were reasonably priced and good… my date had a martini, and he was impressed with the way they’d put it together. Yet, besides the well-executed martini, the service was just there — nothing memorable. I’d come back here if I were on King’s Road and I needed a drink, but I’d never make a destination of it.

The thought of their chocolate pudding and green tea ice-cream makes my mouth water, and I visited the restaurant months ago! I had an online date with a guy who took me here. The décor, staff and not forgetting the main course was superb. I had a very enjoyable evening. Perfect first date venue :-)

This is the identical twin sister restaurant to E&O in Notting Hill. Oddly, despite almost everything(including most of the menu and the exact layout of the restaurant) being the same, I find the food here substandard to E&O. So to be fair, I suppose I would give it an extra star if there was no other like it for comparison. Apparently, Eight Over Eight’s signature — and unique — dish is its black cod with miso(allegedly a different miso sauce than that found at E&O)… but come on, aren’t we done with black cod and miso already? You can get it at YO! Sushi for about £5 these days(a smaller plate and maybe not as tasty but still…) Other dishes, like the famous chili salt squid and duck pancakes, taste a shade less fresh here. For vibe, E&O also wins hands down in my book, but Eight Over Eight is an OK substitute if you’re in the Chelsea area.

It almost feels a bit wrong to have lunch in the dark when its one of this year’s rare sunny days. But the foods is worth it — as always. The décor is very calming and the perfect setting for a relaxed lunch, wheter business or fun. The layout is very similar to E&O’s in Notting Hill with a bar area and the main restaurant separated by a staircase leading downstairs to the loos and kitched. Overall Eight Over Eight is just a little less trendy. The red curry on last week’s menu was one of the best I have ever eaten, the vegetarian maki rolls were beautifully presented and delicious.
