We went to Fish in a Tie twice during our recent trip to London. Restaurant prices are so expensive to us(from U.S.) that we thought we might have to cook all our meals at our flat. Fish in a Tie was reasonably priced, compared to other British restaurants. The food was delicious. We ordered goat cheese salad, asparagus, roast duck, Chicken Tricolore, the vegetable packet, medallions of pork and Christmas pudding. All was excellent. We came back on Sunday for the roast beef with Yorkshire pudding, a stuffed chicken breast and another vegetable packet. The presentations were different each night based on availability of the fresh vegetables. The service was kind and chatty but not hovering. The total was $ 60 – 65 U, S. dollars. For the quality, we would expect to pay about ½ of that for this dinner, but in London prices it is excellent. The location is also very convenient, right behind the Clapham Junction train station. Highly recommended.

The food is delicious, way better than you would ever expect for the bargain price! I’ve tried the beef carpaccio and smoked duck starters and the gypsy lamb, salmon steak and seafood pasta mains and all are incredible. The restaurant itself is a lovely little place, cosy décor and intimate atmosphere. The immediate area isn’t great but it’s probably the best food around Clapham junction.

A hidden gem tucked behind Clapham Junction Station. Not only they offer great food for value, the staff is friendly and the restaurant is very cosy so it’s perfect if you’re wanting to impress a date or celebrate a special occasion with friends. The menu is diverse and you’ll have to visit a few times to work your way around the options. Their calmari starter and the seabass for main keep me coming back for more. They also have lobster linguine and ostrich on the menu. Definitely something for everyone. There’s also a large selection of wines and spirits from the bar. What’s not to like? Given that this place is popular, I’d recommend that you book a table beforehand. Oh, did I mention they do Sunday lunch set offers, 2 courses under £7?

Great food, simply put. Don’t let the 2 course meal for £12 fool you; you should be pleasantly surprised with whatever you order. I had the pork loin in mushroom sauce and a crab pastry to start while my beautiful date had the veggie parcel and grilled mushroom to start. We both shared and both meals were delicious. My only two negatives: 1) the bread & olive oil side NEEDS better bread, and 2) the way they handle phone reservations. Other than that, you’ll have great service for London and a nice atmosphere to dine on a dime.

I live locally, and although it has taken a while to find out about this diamond in the rough, I think I will be paying much more frequent visits from now! I have been to Fish in a Tie twice, both for a roast on a Sunday evening. Firstly, the value is unbeatable — it seems the restaurant has been around for over a decade, and it’s like they’ve had a price freeze since they started as we’ve had 3 courses, a soft drink and service for under £20 each. There is a nice friendly atmosphere, and although the staff are a bit hesitant and can come across as confused at times, they are friendly and helpful. On both occasions we did have to wait rather a long time between our dessert plates being cleared and our bill arriving, but apart from that service is quite efficient. The first time we visited I had: Goats cheese with sweet pepper salad(delicious! And they didn’t scrimp on the goats cheese which is great — it was actually quite filling!), Beef roast(nice portion of meat, rich tasty gravy, crispy and fluffy yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes, broccoli-cheese and carrots), Amaretto cheesecake(nice and creamy, but tasted a bit too cream cheesy and not enough amaretto-y for my liking!) On my latest visit I had the Mediterranean salad to start, which mainly consisted of crumbled goats cheese, rocket, a few sundried tomatoes and a perfectly balanced squiggle of balsamic dressing(I love balsamic!) — I was a bit disappointed to be honest, and think I’ll stick to my previous salad from now. Although actually both my dining companions had the smoked haddock and spring onion fish cakes and they are scrumptious(if a bit filling for a starter! We all stuck with the tried and tested beef roast for main(still great!), and then it was time for dessert… A momentous occasion! Their crème brûlée is to die for — smooth, rich, velvety, creamy, vanilla-y with a nice bit of crunchy caramelised sugar on top… ahhhh. Unfortunately they only had one left, so we had to award it to my flatmate as she had been looking forward to it since the last time she had one and it would have ruined her meal if we’d taken it away from her! My other dining companion and I decided to dessert-share, as we couldn’t decide. The banoffi pie was nice(very flat!), but the banana split was a disappointment — banana, with one little scoop of icecream in the middle, all smothered with(too much!) whipped cream and a drizzle of chocolate sauce. Quite lacklustre, but at least we are getting through the menu and know what works! Next time, we should definitely go in for a non-Sunday-roast meal. I have it on good authority that the gypsy lamb is delicious(even if you are not really a fan of lamb apparently!). One more word to the wise; the Black Tulip(crispy pancake with pear, cream & chocolate sauce), while not gross, is not all it is cracked up to be either. Just so you know!

I’m at a loss as to why, by and large, cities in the UK don’t boast a lot of neighbourhood restaurants the sort of place that is the first, and frequent resort for people living in the area who want, or need, to go out, and don’t want to make a big occasion of it. Of course, there are lots of reasons(high wage and food costs, planning restictions etc. etc. ad nauseum), but one of the principal ones is that there aren’t more places like Fish in a Tie. Friendly and uncomplicated, this is a great venue to eat reasonably good food, reasonably priced. In this instance, I’m not using reasonable as a pejorative in any sense; this restaurant isn’t trying to be The Ivy. A set menu gives you two courses for £10; a la carte is a little more, but the most expensive thing on the menu is about £18. The food is solidly Italianate with an emphasis on fish. I had a good lobster linguine(proper al dente linguine with squid and mussels in a light tomato sauce, with half a small lobster on the side), for about £12. Neither the finest lobster, nor the most exquisite pasta I’ve ever eaten, but tasty, wholesome, and I’d be hard pressed to replicate the same at home for similar money. The wine list is short, and features fairly middle of the road wine but then, where else do you find an OK bottle of Pinot Grigio, in a non-BYO restaurant, for less than £14? The bill for two courses for six people ordering a la carte, and four bottles of wine, and a few other bits and bob, came to a modest £30/head including service. If you want cheap food and big portions, go to your nearest Harvester. If you want tasty food, in a convivial atmosphere, somewhere you can afford to eat in often, then come here.

This place is really sweet — certainly not a fancy restaurant by any stretch of the imagination, but it has good service, lovely food, a nice atmosphere and it is fantastic value. They do 2 courses for £10 which is hard to ignore and the food portions are quite large. I was in a group of 6 and it was quite hard to hear as it is a loud restaurant but other than that this is a great little place to eat. I had the potato skins with sour cream which were a bit boring to be honest but to be fair it was exactly what i ordered, then the chicken milanese for main which was lovely. The wine is good value too — the Rioja is perfectly drinkable. They have about 4 specials per course which is good too!

I came here as part of a group outing and I was thrilled with our hostess’ choice. I expected to pay 10.00 for two courses, but found that the specials menu was 5.00 for two courses; each of which was large enough to be a meal on its own. I ordered the risotto with salmon for my starter, which was cooked to perfection and delicious. I had cod and chips for my main and that was delicious, too. Actually, I didn’t see anything on the menu that I wouldn’t have enjoyed, and everyone at our table received delicious-looking dishes. The desserts were tasty, too. The tab for six people, including all of us having desserts, two of us having wine, and one bottle of champagne for the table, came to just about 115.00 including service charge. That is a bargain for an afternoon meal that kept me full and happy through supper. The waitstaff were very helpful and friendly, and handled special orders(one of our party couldn’t have dairy) with efficiency and accuracy. The surroundings are warm and welcoming, and we felt no pressure from the staff to move on quickly once we’d finished eating.

You really can’t beat the prices here — and that’s probably why you’d find yourself at this restaurant in the first place. It’s not haute-cuisine, far from it, but it’s a cute setting with charming staff and yes, they really do offer 3 courses for £10. The food is a bit hit and miss though. But you are able to mix and match the 3 for £10 offer with their a la carte menu and specials which, on the whole, were far superior. I had the scallops and mussels linguine to start which was fresh, delicious and as big as a main. The chicken Milanese main, from the 3 for £10, was effectively a deep fried chicken escalope covered in a tomato sauce. Tasty enough, but a bit basic. But it’s a great spot to make a night of it. We were intrigued by the £3 cocktails — they kick like a mule and come in huge cups. Not the best cocktails you’ll ever have, but they’re cheap and do the trick! All in all; a cheap spot for some dinner and drinks to start the night with friends or colleagues. If you come here for a special occasion, I suspect you’ll be disappointed.

I have to admit that finding this place was like finding the culinary pot at the end of the rainbow. I am a UK born and raised Pole — last Saturday three of us visited a Polish Restaurant in Hammersmith where we, to put it politely were served up what I would describe as pigswill with service that matched the farmer feeding his pigs and then as if to add insult to injury we got stuffed for £77 and that did not include the bar bill. Yesterday evening having found the Fish In A Tie on the net and read the reviews, I felt that we should give this a try, after all we have already been to the worst restaurant in town so what had we too lose. .. the only minus I can offer here is that it was packed and the punters were very noisy(sorry chaps) — would I recommend this place? Not many — I will drive the 50 miles to eat there again and again and again. .. £50 for the three of us and that included a three course meal for each and all drinks. I will add that this was not from the set menu either. . tremendous little place, caring staff and the food gets 5 stars — I came out of there feeling like a stuffed pig just minus the pigswill and the farmer :-)) Highly Recommended ***

Some friends of ours took us here while we were visiting London. It was a refreshing and unique dinner experience. The food was delicious(go for the ostrich!), and the prices were very reasonable. The service was terrific — very friendly. If we lived in London, we’d be regulars!

You can’t beat this place for value. And the atmosphere is wonderful. I honestly can’t remmeber much about my food except that I wasn’t disappointed and left terribly happy. You can’t say fairer than that for a tenner plus wine. They have some exotic dishes — ostrich is on the menu sometimes — but meat and veg seems to be standard, and that’s fine by me. A bargain, handily located, and not a chain. Please go!

I celebrated my boyfriend’s Call to the BAR(Barrister Graduation) with his parents at Fish in a Tie. We chose this restaurant because it got good reviews and the delicious sounding entrees were fairly priced at around £10 each. The restaurant is a gem on Falcon Road, as it’s next to some ghetto cheap eats like«Pizza Hot.» When you walk inside it feels very homey with the wooden floors and décor. We all chose the 3 course meal for £10. I was very impressed with the calamari & beef carpaccio appetizers and expected the entrée(gypsy lamb) to be just as good, if not better. I honestly couldn’t tell if it was lamb or dog meat since it was covered with a tomato-like sauce. I was jealous of the pork chops my boyfriend & his dad ordered however by the end of the meal my taste buds were hazy from the 3+ glasses of wine and thought my banoffee dessert was pretty good. So why am i giving it such a high rating? It is a really good value for money and great atmosphere. With 4 people dining having 3 decent course meals and celebrating with 3 bottles of wine, our bill came out to just around £75. I am definitely going back again soon to try one of the main entrees since they looked so delicious on the other tables.

I was first taken here by my now husband on a date and upon arrival it reminded me of little bay. It’s conveniently located a 2 min walk from Clapham Junction and easy to find. We were sat upstairs(nicer, quieter than downstairs) and attended to shorty after. Even though we had made a reservation we still had to wait for our table. However, the food and price made up for it. For three courses each, with drinks we spent just about £30 between the two of us. They have their main menu and a specials menu everyday. I opted for their spicy calamari salad(off the specials) to start with which was amazing. Texture of the squid was cooked to perfection, i.e. not rubbery and came with a mouthwatering dressing with a kick and fresh salad leaves. He had the Moules marinier(in white wine, shallots, garlic and cream) which is an all time favourite with crusty bread. For my main I had the linguine with lobster, again I cannot fault it. A generous portion of lobster with a buttery linguine sure to fill you up and satisfy your taste buds. Our first time here we had dessert but for the life of me cannot remember what. Since going back every few months we’ve managed to stuff ourselves to the brim and dessert deems unnecessary at that point. All in all a great little find of a place. I wish they had more of them!

Oh my Gosh! I can’t believe that I don’t go here more often. It’s well worth the trek across London for. The choux de crab is fantastic, and even better, it’s on the lunch menu, which is only £5 for two courses — Starbucks can shove it’s luke-warm panini(o?) where the sun does not shine! The original décor is cosy and kitsch, and a table for two tucked in the corner is an ideal place for a romantic dinner. The staff are attentive, but not overbearing… all in all, a jolly good time was had by all. Yum yum, and thumbs up :)

I’ve eaten at this cosy establishment on a couple of occasions, always been impressed by the quality of the food and the service. Great value, main courses from around £7, also worth noting that they don’t charge for a delicious selection of bread. I left full and happy and will certainly be returning, if you’re looking for somewhere close to Clapham Junction this is the place for you.

This is such a good local restaurant. I have lived close by for ages and never tried it, but I have to say, I was missing out on a good find. It is a bit confusing because they don’t sell huge amounts of fish and it is Italien, not Thai either of which you might assume from the name. The food is rustic and absolutely lovely. Great flavours and exceptional value, I actually had a starter size pasta for a main cousre and it was the size of a regular main and really great. The part upstairs at the back is dimly lit and romantic and downstairs in the wine cellar style basement would be great for a birthday meal with a few friends.
