Arfff. I occasionally do dance perfomances here so it’s pinching my heart to have to write this but I owe it to you fellow Unilocalers. I think it’s a fantastic place for a catch up over a drink and a bit of fun during the week. Weekends are PACKED and the music anything Latin, from brazilian funk, samba to salsa merengue, bachata and your fair dose of commercial tunes. It gets hot and the great cocktails are here to quench your thirst(Fogo di floripa is a great one) 8⁄10 So it was a no brainer when my girls in old street wanted to meet. However, why oh why did we choose to eat here? The menu is NOT cheap and definitely NOT worth its price. I assume every Unilocaler would spend a little if it was worth it, it’s not. Starter: Baccalhau tasted bland as sand. Cheese balls with pesto came with mayonnaise not pesto and the balls are dry as the desert. Main: lamb chops all round. Actually very nice and good size! But for £12, I’d expect for it not to come on its own! Yeah you read right. So we had to order other starters, £6 very bright psychedelic orange sweet potatoes fries, hollow wedges and uncle Bens’ rice. The last 2 don’t feature on the menu. Everthying is cooked without salt. Total bill £92 I mean what? Thank god for our 50% off tastecard offer. 2⁄10 because of the drinks and discount. Flo I love you, I do but your food needs a serious revamp. I’m out!

Floripa feels like sitting in a very large and lavishly decorated shed. We decided to go here last minute when our first choice of venue was shut for a private event. Despite having two large party reservations, they were very accommodating and quickly found us a table for 12 in the middle of the main bar. It was happy hour so bottles of wine were £10 which is a bargain in London! and overall the place was pleasant enough. My only gripes(and they are small) were that the music was far too loud at 6pm and it was hard to have a chat. Considering at the time we were the only ones in the bar we asked if they would turn it down only to be told they had live music later and had to test the sound. That’s fine, not a huge problem and they were courteous enough. The music was a mix of salsa and various well known Latin american tunes which was fun enough but then they brought out the dancers!!! A male and female(the female far more under dressed than the male) in full festival gear dancing around the room and right up to people at the tables. I don’t usually mind this and it’s partly our fault for not realising what type of place it was, but there was just something off about scantily dressed dancers gyrating around at 6pm on a Thursday! Especially as the female one really wasn’t wearing a lot at all, in fact I could have doubled as her gynecologist there was so much on display! Overall the place wasnt terrible by any means and the happy hour prices are something to consider going back for. I think if you are after a cheesy night of salsa dancing then this is your place but if you just fancy drinks and a chat then there are far more interesting and chilled out places than this in Hoxton.

If you go early enough you can get space to sit down and relax, but later the music gets quite bad and the place literally turns into a club. So a great place to be drunk with your friends, but not a place to enjoy good music or drinks.

A very fun place to go with good music you can really dance to, always a fun atmosphere. The only down side is that it is quite small and gets way too hot– Taking the tropical theme a bit too literally!

Love this bar, love dancing, love the drinks, love life! A fair bit of love really. We paid only £5 to get in, not bad at all in this kind of area! Great bar, busy but not packed and good dancing music — not typical chart type stuff but it was more than good enough for us to get down and jiggy with it(obviously in a cool hipster kind of way). Difficult to find the toilets though, I remember that. I spent quite a while wandering round the bar(and almost into a mirror, I was a touch squiffy) until I found a tiny sign for them in the corner. But all in all, it was open until 3am, we got straight in on saturday at 12pm and danced the night away. So much so that I spilt drinks all over our coats and none of us cared — I got some choice words from the girls the next day thought

There are a lot of problems that come with being a club and a restaurant at the same time and I guess that my trip to Floripa got me to experience most of them. I went there for a birthday dinner — typically this is the kind of event where one would enjoy chatting to the other guests. Not here though! The music was too loud to actually enable any conversation to flow. That’s issue one from where I’m sitting… Issue two: just like on any other club, the lights are as dim as possible. Fairly reasonable if you are in the mood for some intimate dancing but not so good when you can’t even see what you are eating. If you are picky with your food, this place will prove to pose a serious challenge. Then there’s the slight detail of having dinner tables two steps away from the dance floor; people just keep bumping into you and you spend your entire meal surrounded by a crowd. In turn, that crowd means you can hardly get the staff’s attention — it’s hard to get someone over when there’s loads of people around you and the music makes shouting an impossibility. Just to wrap it up, we come to the most important aspect of the meal: the food. Still not good. I had the worse chicken skewers to ever grace the face of the earth. I don’t know how they managed to achieve this, but they were sower. That’s right! Sower! Sower chicken! The batatas bravas are a complete rip off and the bolinhos de bacalhau are half decent. So even though the feijoada was nice it still doesn’t save the meal. We paid close to £30PP and holy guacamole is this place not worth the money! I am sure you can have a good time if you just come around to party but if it’s a nice meal you are after you will actually be better off with the Kebab shop on the other side of the street.

This is the sort of place that makes people think London is a rip off, 3 bottles of beer bought at the bar cost over £14 because they automatically add a service charge. When I queried it the barman smiled and sarcastically said«Thanks, we appreciate it». What a douche.

This review is for dinner and drinks on a Saturday night. I feel like Floripa can’t decide what it wants to be. When I was there it was a 1. Brazilian steakhouse 2. Trendy latin lounge 3. Hipster bar 4. 90s throwback club. The food itself was actually pretty good. My friends and I split a bunch of smaller plates and everything was very good/flavorful. The menu is very heavy on the meat, but one in our group was a vegetarian and they have some good veggies options that aren’t boring. We had dinner around 8:30 so we were there for the entire transition to the lounge/nightclub vibe it seemed to go into after the dinner service. I’d say it attracted a hodgepodge of clientele ranging from Shoreditch hipsters who wandered in, Brazilian food aficionados, and random bros just trying to drink beer and wait for house music to come on. The space gets really crowded and was certainly uncomfortable towards the end of our dinner when people kept bumping up against our table(there is no divider between the restaurant and the bar/dance area. I’d say it’s worth checking out, but don’t get your hopes up too high as I feel like it’s still figuring out what type of place it is.

I went in on an evening for a birthday celebration, and Floripa had a clear«I came to London and I want to hang out with the locals at a hip East London bar» kind of vibe. It was rammed. There were hen parties. There were pensioners in Birkenstocks. There were people wearing fake eye lashes. Not really my thing. I remember the starters I ordered being really tasty, but I got them to soak up all the booze I’d consumed earlier in the evening to dull my senses to the bar’s other patrons, so I should note that this memory isn’t particularly reliable.

I love love love Floripa! the food here is.just.amazing, 10⁄10. The waitresses/waiters are so helpful and explained the dishes to me and my girlfriends. We had a taste for London card which gives 50% off food and drink as it was a celebration we ordered everything bar one dish off the menu, seriously everything! The dishes just kept coming, our table was full of delicious flavorsome Brazilian food. We stayed at our table right to the end of the evening! The only thing we did find was that the live band was extremely loud at the start of the night, they were great but we were finding it hard to hear each other over it. Once we had finished our food the waitress was kind enough to give us a quieter table towards the back so all was cool in the end. Cant fault it, amazing amazing!

I meant to post this review after eating here on 7÷7÷2012.. . oops. We had such a great experience, though, that it still deserves the praise almost a year later. Everything about this place was wonderful! My boyfriend and I arrived around 930 p.m., which normally means we would need to pay £5 each for entry and would just have access to drinks. We were obviously clueless, but the hostess generously worked her magic, got us a table for dinner, and didn’t make us pay for entry! The drinks were strong, the food was delicious, and the music was fun. As if the staff hadn’t already treated us kindly enough, they even let us order dessert only a few minutes before the kitchen closed. Definitely recommend :)

Cool spot for drinks but dinner wasn’t too exciting. It looked like there were a lot of reserved tables for parties but not many people were eating. We ordered a couple menu items and some were warm, some were cold.

Ok for lunch, but don’t bother with dinner. You will be sitting in the bar with people standing around pressed against you. There is no dinner seating area.

As soon as you walk into the bar you are immediately struck by its cool, funky and almost circus like character. It was a perfect blend of cool cocktail bar, festival vibe dance party and Brazilian back yard BBQ. The staff here obviously loved working here as they were all smiles and were having an amazing time. We enjoyed on stage entertainment and tasted some amazing authentic Brazilian food. I would definitely recommend this place for a great party with delicious food!

I came to Floripa as part of a Shoreditch bar crawl, and was absolutely pleased – it was definitely my favorite spot of the night, despite the crowd. The DJ was playing a great tunes from all kinds of genres, the atmosphere was fun and, while the drinks were quite expensive, the bartenders moved quickly to take care of orders and keep people happy. Generally, I’d say that Floripa is unique for the strange combination of decorations they’ve put together to give a very tropical feeling in an increasingly chilly London-town. I’m not sure where the name comes from, but I definitely missed the beaches of Florida when I went home that night. I’m not sure how it works for getting in, if it’s a matter of cover or reservations, but it was definitely worth the bar crawl to get the opportunity to try this place. Now I need to figure out how to go back!

Floripa in Shoreditch used to be Favela Chic which was twinned with its sister Brazilian DJ-and-Latin-music-bar-restaurant in Paris. In London it was just one good example of a lively chic European adaptation of its Rio ghetto equivalent; in eastern Paris it was(and still is) a rare gem. Not much has changed apart from its ownership; maybe the food range is more authentic in Floripa. Maybe I’ll leave the rest of the cultural history lesson to the opening ceremony of Rio 2016 I first went as a Qype guest and the rum cocktail variants were very good as was the chilled ambience and lovely high ornate ceilings and decorations. But we didn’t then taste the food or use the lively outside tables or hear a live band later — and so fortunately I went back in a large group of friends to do all three later the same week. The taste and texture of the fish stews and bean dishes were the best quality, and the best value dishes were the spicy Portugese sausage, meatballs-that-tasted-like-organic-vegetarian and the potato wedges. The music programme is regular, varied and later for dancing +

I’ve been few times to Floripa and gotta say that it’s one of the best Brazilian venues in London! I like everything about this place: nice atmosphere, friendly staff, creative cocktail list and great music. I haven’t tried the food yet, but the menu looks interesting. Need to go back for it,

I have been to Floripa and I had a great time with friends. It is a great point to drink a nice cocktail and chat with friends after work. It was so cool to be outside and enjoy the sun.
