It’s a station pub, it’s a Fullers and it’s packed with drinkers either waiting for trains or having just decamped from the same. It’s a sprawling place inside and, when we were there, very busy. The beer was good and the food looked to be the usual Fullers’ fare. As station pubs go, it’s probably one of the better ones that I have found myself in. All that said and done though … it’s a station pub … at a very busy station

The Great Northern Hotel is our go-to hotel in London, and the GNH Bar at the hotel as good as the hotel. We had a few drinks before setting out for the night. The setting is great with mirrors, music, and magnificent chandeliers. It was not terribly crowded early on a Friday evening and we were easily able to grab a table. If you get one drink, get the Old Chili Monkey, their take on an Old Fashioned. If it was actually made of monkeys, I would risk Ebola a thousand times to taste this spicy beast again, it is liquid excellence! Whisky, chili powder and cinnamon combine to make a surprisingly balanced but complex trio of tastes!

The atmosphere and music is great, but we were unfortunately let down by a very poor half dozen oysters. Perhaps a reflection of their price(£2.95) a pop, but we didn’t expect to be picking bits of shell out of our mouthes. Aside from that, and the slightly shoddy and disinterested service(I think our waitress was new), I’d highly recommend a visit. Perfect for a not-too-fancy date or a pre-train beer, and much better than some of the other establishments in King’s Cross station.
