This K Town establishment has a Jubo food eaterie. In Bedroom Bar The best thing they had was the Korean Spicy Hot Wings. The Strips were even better than the wings though. Those boneless crispy pieces really hit the spot.

Came here for dinner tonight and my friend and I each got the 15GBP Jubo Special, which includes two wings, two strips, a side and a bottle of Hite beer. I thought it was a bit pricey for everything, even though the quality of food was good. In the end, it’s just fried chicken and beer, and coming from North America/Asia, this was not great quantity for value. That said, the pieces of chicken were large and they certainly didn’t skimp on the batter. The skin was really crispy and completely saturated in a sticky, savoury soy-garlic sauce, which was delicious. The meat inside was warm and tender. The side of crispy lotus root chips was a unique offering(would definitely skip the standard chips/rice/kimchi sides and go for something special like the kimchi slaw or lotus root chips), with a good portion provided. Service from the bearded waiter was friendly and the atmosphere was den-like — dark with neon lighting fixtures on the ceiling and pictures of K-pop stars and Korean film posters on the walls. Someone else mentioned the 1-car, 2-car characters on the wall — this is supposed to be the first car(first stop) of the night: chicken and beer, before more drinks and karaōke, and then the club, and then finally another food stop at the fourth car! In sum: Will definitely satisfy KFC(Korean fried chicken) cravings with tasty food and no wait for a table on a Monday night, all in a cleaned-up version of the draught beer/piles of fried chicken joints you see in Asia(which I dearly miss!).

I like this place. It is pretty understated and easy going. The Korean chicken is the main draw for me here. Tasty, crunchy and not crazy money. Is not the most authentic place but if you fancy a few beers and some fried chicken with friends it is a good option.

Fried chicken was delicious and at £15 for chicken, side and beer it was pretty great value for the location. The dumplings(one of the side dishes) were amazing. I’ve been to Seoul and while this place isn’t really that authentic(compared to many other Korean restaurants in London) it’s interesting food and good fun.

Set inside bedroom bar on Rivington Street, Jubo offers decent Korean food that’s a bit overpriced. The beef galbi and bbq chicken were my favorites! The chicken comes with a choice of three sides — garlic soy, hot and volcano — try the volcano if you like spicy!

So finely got to try the new KFC and must say not sure what the fuss is all about! Jubo is attached to a bar next door so you can sit in the bar area or the restaurant which is actually quite small. Good place to get a few drinks and eat something at the same time which is not just pub grub. It’s not a dinner place for having a chat with friends, we could barely hear each other and has to keep shouting. The menu is quite small, which is a good thing because almost everything can be tasted. The main dish is of course the chicken which is a lot like barbecued wings in the USA with the hot and sweet flavour. The have three levels of chilly, we tried the soya and volcano. Our friend found the volcano very hot, so be careful. We also tried the beef galbi, chapchae, lotus root salad and pork buns. My favourite was the beef and the lotus root salad. Not a fan of the sweet flavours so prefer southern friend chicken. Service us very efficient!

I love Korean food, but this just wasn’t quite up to the standard I’ve had elsewhere in London. The fried chicken was okay, but not amazing, and the kimchi was average. I’d recommend going to On The Bab just around the corner instead. I’ll probably give it another chance some time, but not in a hurry.

Okay Korean fried chicken, but no match for Bonchon. I’ll have to admit that my favorite Korean fried chicken is the one without sauce. Jubo does an okay job of following the typical Korean fried chicken joint with a garlic soy and spicy gochujang option. I enjoyed the volcanic option with its slow burn, but would not enjoy more than a couple pieces. When the wings first came out and were hot, I enjoyed the crisp skin. The flavor and sauce, however, reminded me of cheap Americanized Chinese food. Don’t get me wrong, there are times that I like eating Panda Express too, but when I want Korean fried chicken, I want Korean fried chicken.

Amazing amazing food! Enter the building to a little 20 – 30 seater to the left and a darker pub-like setting to the right(lots more seats). I’d heard a lot about Jubo and Korean BBQ in general so was really looking forward to this. Started off by surveying the drinks menu. A nice blend of asian and traditional cocktail fusions. Finally got our adapted Mojito’s which were really good. The food menu was even better and we felt like ordering something from each section just because it all looked very tasty. We went for both steamed buns, the Jubo Special, the Bokkeumbap and Beef Galbi — as well as the Lotus salad. The fried chicken was insanely good. We went for the mixed flavours so had a big bite of both. The real deal though were the buns — the pork buns! I could’ve had 3 or 4 of these delights. Make sure you get them when you go.

Jubo is a little interesting canteen, located inside the Bedroom Bar on the trendy Rivington Street, it serves simple US style Korean fast food, as well as a Korean classic ssam, which you need to order in advance. I noticed Korean fried chicken has created a bit of a buzz lately. The main event KFC lived up to its reputation, not overly crispy and still tender on the inside, the soy garlic dressing was rich and flavoursome, it was so simple yet so delicious…

My first bao, I had it at Jubo today. I ordered two pork buns, three stripes of garlic soy chicken tenders and the Bulgogi sandwich. I came in for lunch at 12 sharp. Sooo, I have two problems here. First is that I don´t really have a comparison for the food I had but on the other side there was some stuff still bothering me. First I got the pork buns and the chicken. Both were pretty good tastewise but kinda cold. Maybe that´s how it´s supposed to be, I don´t know. Considering I was the only person in the restaurant at the time I´m not sure what that was about. It came fast though, maybe too fast I´m afraid. The Bulgogi sandwich was underwhelming. I´ve had Bulgogi before just not in this context. The Bulgogi itself was a little stale and came mixed with pickled pepper(mild). On top was cheese and everything was inside a pretty shitty untoasted bun. And once again, it was kinda cold. I don´t know what the deal is here or if I should´ve said something or maybe everything was the way it´s supposed to be. But overall it was KINDACOLD. Maybe it´s just like this during lunch or maybe I was too early… after all that´s not my problem though. Well it is cause I paid 20 pounds for it. Little remark, my tab water had remainder of lemon pulp in it. lol. I will probably not be back because it wasn´t good enough to risk another round of half-warm food. I´d give it a second try if someone invited me for Dinner there.

I’ve been to Jubo about three time now, and I have to say, overall, I like it. And its not just because I’m a quarter Korean and therefore love my KFC(Korean Fried Chicken, obvs). Or the cosy location with a fireplace. First off, order the Selection of Pickles, they are awesome and a hit every time I bring different people here. Usually, they are radish and mushroom. I also quite like the kimchee slaw, the kimchee(if you like it straight up), and the chips. They DO have nice, sort of fast-food style chips. Chicken wise, I prefer the Soy Garlic sauce to the Hot & Sweet, and I much prefer(surprisingly) the wings to the strips. This isn’t normally the case, but I find the strips here have to much batter and that accompanying ‘fried feeling’ of heaviness that I get with too much oil. The wings, on the other hand(these must be pretty burly chickens, as the wings are quite large) are light, juicy, crispy, and… crap, I should stop Unilocaling before dinner. The steamed buns are ok, but I can’t eat them elsewhere after Yum Bun, which is just so much better. I do want to try their Ssäm group dining options(presumably similar to the ones offered by Momofuku Ssäm Bar in NYC), which come with 1 kilo or steak or pork to share amongst 4 people. They only do this with advanced booking though, so be aware.

I’m not really sold on Jubo as a name really, it’s a bit too close to SuBo which, in itself, is an idiotic ‘nickname’(thanks, The Sun). Anyway. Fried chicken. I could write another agonisingly long review lamenting the paucity of good fried chicken in this country, but I’ll save you the eye-rolling and whatever else for now. Anyhow, Korean fried chicken is a relatively new concept to me, but I was really impressed by Jubo’s offerings. The place itself is based in the Bedroom Bar — when I went on a Tuesday evening it was pretty quiet although it seems that it may get a bit louder depending on what’s going on in the bar area. The space itself is pretty cosy, albeit with lighting that resides in that grey area between ‘aww yeah girl’ and ‘seedy’. We went for the sharing platter, a demi-colossus consisting of 8 strips of chicken(as Andrew says — not small. Think Monkey Fingers from Meat Mission) and 8 wings, as well as three sides. Just going to drop in that I’m starting to salivate whilst writing this. Sigh. You know how oftentimes ‘chicken wings’ in this country seem to refer to those sorry wingtips that should have gone in the stockpot:? Well, the ones at Jubo are properly sized with multiple morsels of meat on each one, so don’t worry about that when ordering. Oh, the sides — the chips and the kimchee coleslaw are good. The real winners are the pickles. Oh, the pickles. My favourites are the mushroom ones — honestly, I want to eat those all day every day. Fantastic. As for the chicken, well, let’s just say that at some point I’m going to want to conquer the platter single-handedly. Given the glaze, it’s a different beast to more ‘traditional’ fried chicken, but everything is as it should be — the chicken is juicy and the batter is crunchy. I personally preferred the soy-garlic glaze to the hot & sweet, but both were pretty enjoyable. I also ordered a bulgogi sub to tide me over which was pretty tasty(basically an appetiser, yeah, I know) although nothing special — £7 is a bit steep. I’m looking forward to coming here again. It’s not the cheapest place in the world — the sharing platter will go between 3(or 2 if I’m involved), so it’s going to be £15−20 a head. However, it’s just really good fried chicken and it’s a lot of fun. I also saw recently(more salivation) that they’re starting to offer a steak ssäm — a kilo of marinated bavette steak to share between 4. Um. YES. Will update the review when I get round to doing that.

Not having known that«Korean fried chicken» was a thing before visiting here I didn’t really know what to expect, I was not disappointed though! We had a mixed platter which meant we got to taste both the chilli and soy and garlic chicken as well as wings and strips and 3 sides. It was a pretty good sized portion for the price and the chicken was delicious!

Korean fried chicken! Now it’s something I don’t have to wait to go back to NY to occasionally indulge in. Just to give you a bit of background on the whole Korean fried chicken craze. It really started years back when I was a wee teen sneaking into Korean pubs in NY. Korean pubs usually serve up fast comfort food and one of them being tong dak — which is fried chicken. It’s usually served with a side of picked white radish. Baden baden is well known in the NY/NJ area for serving up the best chicken. Then one by one the Korean fried chicken places started popping up like bon chon and kyochon, and plenty of independent joints. We got the chicken platter with kimchi, kimchi slaw and fries. It was interesting to have the strips as this was a slight change to fit the British palate I think as you usually get the option of either drumsticks or wings. The chicken was really well cooked — really juicy and crispy at the same time… but the seasoning wasn’t quite there for me. Both the soy garlic and hot and spicy flavours were a little bland. I had to mix up the ketchup and sriracha sauce to dip my soy garlic pieces into. I’m sorry, the kimchi however it was decent to eat but it was wrong. I’m not going to fuss about having carrot sticks in it(as it was slightly unusual) but it wasn’t properly pickled. The kimchi slaw was really good and enjoyed the skinny fries. Now the one thing that was missing as a side offering was the pickled radish. It’s usually cut into cubes and mixed with vinegar, salt and sugar and it is the perfect side to have with fried chicken. We also ordered the bulgogi sub and pork hirata buns. The bulgogi sub was okay but I thought the pork buns were very underwhelming. Plenty of other places that have better hirata buns so give it a miss. I found the décor interesting as the Korean words they have on the side means 1st car, 2nd car — which literally refers to the cars on the train. Koreans usually say — let’s go to the 2nd car meaning where’s the next place we’re going to — like after dinner, going to a karaōke bar… but usually don’t refer to it by saying 1st, 2nd, 3rd. etc. Nice attempt at getting a bit of the pop culture — but no one would really understand unless you can read it! Overall, the chicken is good but I think I’ll still be doing my Korean Fried Chicken stops when I am next in NY. I think they really should’ve called in Asian Canteen instead as it’s really pan asian versus Korean(ahem — the Sriracha sauce instead of kochujang?)

Based on all the reviews I was looking forward to a bustling place, with good late night food that hits the spot. We were disappointed. The chicken itself was good, we got both the wings and strips and the batter was great. The buns were underwhelming. The pork was bland, there was nothing else to give it crunch(other than a measly slice of warm cucumber). But by far the most memorable part of the evening was the utterly haphazard service. The«manager» who took our names down for the list told us it would be a half hour wait. We eventually waited an hour and a half. Each time we went to check in with her she’d say it’s just a few more minutes. Once we finally sat down, they just ignored us. No menus, nothing. Then another 20 minutes later we finally managed to grab a waitress’ attention and she took our order. Another 30 mins before we had to beg another waiter to at least bring us our drinks while we wait some more. We tried ordering some more food. Which appeared on our bill, but not at our table by the time we eventually left. Yes, the chicken is alright, and it’s cheap. I’m not expecting great service either. But this was so poor that it put a dampener on my evening.

Jubo has taken up residence in the Bedroom Bar Shoredtich and is turning out some delicious Korean style fried chicken. Yes, the location may at first seem a bit odd, but the pop-up is actually in the side area which is more slick minimalist canteen, less smoky boudoir and is well suited to chowing down. The menu is centered around a choice of chicken strips or wings in a soy garlic or hot & sweet sauce. If that doesn’t strike your fancy, there are a trio of hirata-style steamed buns(think Yum Bun), a chicken sandwich, and a bulgogi steak sub as well as a spread of your typical Korean sides. All in all, it’s good food at a reasonable price in a surprisingly cool setting which fits with the fresh and spunky Shoreditch vibe. I was there to test the chicken with Katie B and that’s just what we did. Since we were also joined by Jules H, we could order a few more things on the menu. We opted for the chicken dinner platter(£35) which gives you a massive 8 strips, 8 wings, and 3 sides. You can get the chicken in a mix of the two sauces(half and half — not literally mixed) so of course we did. To get an idea of size, each strip was about 8 inches long and 1.5−2 inches wide so it’s a sizeable bit of bird. The wings are about the size of tennis balls and also boast a good meat-to-bone ratio. Both are twice fried to give a crunchy batter without retaining any oiliness and then covered in a sticky glaze. The result is a juicy, flavourful piece of meat that is quite literally finger-licking good(if for no other reason than your hands will be covered in the saucy glaze). The platter is enough for 2 people(or 3 light eaters) so I ordered a couple of hirata buns to finish off the meal. Unfortunately, the beef brisket was all sold out, but I’m just as happy with pork belly and portobello mushroom. Perhaps it was just in comparison to the excellent chicken, but I found the buns lacking in taste and pizzazz. If going for buns I’d rather hop over to Yum Bun and focus my eating on the KFC(Korean Fried Chicken) at Jubo. Becky H finally arrived towards the end of the meal and ordered up a chicken roll which is a kimchi slaw topped fried chicken thigh stuffed into a soft bun. This is a winner with the tangy kimchi slaw marrying well with the spiced mayo — both of which are well supported by the meaty flavours of the chicken thigh. The soft bun absorbs the run off juices and acts as a counterpoint to the crunchy fillings. The chicken dinner platter at £35 is a good way to taste a full range of chicken pieces if you are sharing with friends. The roll is a hearty meal for one at just under a tenner but the buns seemed a bit small for the price. So yes, its worth it especially if you stick to chicken you will be hard pressed to find a better deal in London!

This new pop-up opened recently offering a quite uncommon 28% discount for the first few weeks. Their speciality being Korean Fried Chicken. The pop up itself is within the Bedroom Bar. As you walk in, head to the left and you’re in Jubo. The doors on the right, Bedroom Bar. Whilst the evening started off nicely; at around 930pm, live music started playing in the Bedroom Bar. This was loud enough to actually interrupt conversation in Jubo. So if you’re planning on a quiet dinner, head there before the live music starts. The food itself was okay. We ordered Korean Hot/Sweet Wings, Chicken Roll and Hirata buns with pork belly. Having been to Shoryu recently for my first Hirata bun experience, I was less than impressed with Jubo. The bun was smaller, and the filling nowhere near as tasty. The chicken roll was good. The fried chicken crispy and not too dry. The bun however was not warmed or toasted in the slightest being one of those horribly crumbly type buns instead of the byron type buns that hold together. Finally the Wings, which were the best bit. Essentially think KFC wings slathered in Hoi Sin sauce and hot sauce. These wings were big, lovely batter and yummy. The experience itself was let down by the dingy poorly lit surroundings, super loud live music and mostly average food. Staff and service were great, but unfortunately the food apart from the wings just wasn’t good enough.
