Not sure why this place has only 3 stars on Unilocal.Probably because londoners dont use Unilocal very much and the only time they do is to complain. The food here is awesome and it’s been in London for over 30 years. All their dishes have a distinct flavor while at the same time offering a wide variety. Pork, duck, and chicken bbqs are always cooked to perfection. Their house special fried rice, which is typically oily at most chinese restaurants, is always light and fluffy. I have ordered sweet, savory, and spicy dishes here and all of them exhibit a multitude of flavors and depth that is rare to find in a typical chinese restaurant. COMEHEREIFYOUWANTGOODCHINESEFOOD. It’s expensive because its good quality and also because London.

This place is unbelievable, for a city like London. Not only, the manager seated me and my family(so 5pers) on a table of 2 – 3 pers, they were rude, didn’t want to serve us as we changed table(because apparently we were rude to the waitress who cleaned the new table, which we weren’t: we were just sitting and waiting) and called my partner and me «thieves», as we were looking at the menu. My father still wanted to sit down and wait. All in all about an hour of waiting. And no one gave us menus, nor asked for anything. My father went to the manager(who called us thieves) and tried to sort it out, when he then raised his voice in front of all clients. The manager then explained, he never wanted to serve us. PS: We are an Arab family…

Steamed fish was fresh and well cooked. Ginger and scallion crab was alright, could be more flavorful. Veggie plate was small but overall a good choice for Chinese in London.

Had a very nice Sunday evening meal here with the missus. It’s a laid-back, unpretentious place. Lots of round tables, plenty of seating. During our visit it was mostly families enjoying their dinner. We had the pan-fried pork dumplings(outstanding); aromatic crispy duck, with pancakes, spring onions, cucumber and sweet sauce(also wonderful); and Mongolian crispy lamb with iceberg lettuce, spring onions, cucumber and sweet sauce(also, great). The service isn’t effusive but it is effective. The value is decent. All in, including a 750ml bottle of sparkling water and tip, our meal came to £38. I would come back here.

Good service. Food was served really quick. They speak English and Cantonese, as far as I know. Ordered the salted fish and chicken fried rice. It was a good portion, just enough for 1 person. A little bland but it’s acceptable. Then had a pot of biased beef which was great! Tender beef with some radish. Sauce was savory.

Went here today on a Wednesday night. Upon walking in, no one greeted us. With confused faces, we started looking for a seat and finally caught eye attention of one of the waitresses. She sat us and gave us the menu. Another waitor shortly came up to us afterward and asked us for drinks. We said water and he asked if we’d like sparkling or still. I said tap and he said he would come back to us.(Not sure if he did not hear me) We skimmed through the menu. The waitress was able to provide us with some recommendations. I was looking forward to the pineapple bbq pork buns but unfortunately they stop making them at 5pm. I settled on a rice and braised pork. Both were very disappointing, rice was too salty and the pork was too dry. I ordered a mango pudding afterward which was good, but the price was a tad high as it was £5 which is equivalent to $ 10 canadian for me. Also the chinese tea was £1.50 per person.

Try the fried rice. Of all the restaurants my wife and I tried in London, this was the only one that earned a return visit. The pork buns are indeed delicious(as mentioned in a few other reviews here) but the absolute best thing on their menu is the humble egg fried rice. We’ve both dined in and taken away, and the food was wonderful either way. A great place all around.

Had dinner here with friends. Staff were friendly and service was swift. The menu offers a good selection of dishes(including a decent variety if vegetarian options), and everything was flavoursome. Portions are very well-judged. Will definitely be back.

I’ve been coming here since 1998. I have always loved the cheng fun and steamed prawn dumplings. I’ve always been loyal to this place and come here every time I’m in the area. The food and the service have always been fantastic, although since renovation it never seems to be full, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

As of this moment, my favourite dim sum place in London, having become a little disappointed by Phoenix Palace and Royal China, we revisited this one where we had had good food previously but found it just a little far and a later start than most Dim Sum. In Bayswater and opening at 12pm, getting here can be a bit of a chore especially trying to find parking around Hyde Park, but it is worth it. Love the Mooli Roll and everything we tried was just gosh darn awesome. Fried, steamed, roasted, it was all good. Doughsticks were fresh and crunchy(in other places you can tell when they’re recycling a previous days goods) and we got a lobster noodle dish that was out of this world. It was just so fresh and tasty(go for ee min noodles instead of their standard ones, you’ll have to ask for it, but it’s worth it!), the lobster easy to get out of the shell and having great texture. The staff are attentive and happy for you to choose your own table(a couple are under the air conditioners and can get quite cold), and to make it easier on everybody they have a nice picture menu and surprise surprise, the pictures actually match the dishes you are going to get!

Came to Kam Tong for dim sum for one reason only. Pineapple bbq pork buns(菠蘿叉燒包). The restaurant had good dim sum all around, and the pineapple bbq pork buns and XO scallop dumplings were especially good. I arrived here about 30 min before my dining companion, and the restaurant allowed me to sit down first and sip on tea and wait, despite being rather crowded. Order the pineapple bbq pork buns. I had them for the first time years ago in Vancouver and they changed my life. I can’t ever go back to the regular bbq pork buns. It is now my life goal to seek them out in every city.

This place is like my second home. Dim sum is fresh and tasty. The Cantonese duck and Peking duck are to die for. The other thing I come for is the double boiled house soup but only on weekends.

Restaurant neben der Tube Station Bayswater. Prima Speisen, flotte pragmatische Bedienung. Leider total überlaufen(drolligerweise mit Chinesen). Wenn man nur essen möchte und nicht lange sitzen bleiben eine gute Idee.

A delicious Chinese dinner. Service was prompt and friendly and portions were perfectly sized. Our table of six, with a variety of tastes, not all of which were adventurous, ordered a veritable smörgåsbord of dishes that were all quite tasty. I highly recommend the aubergine braised with sea spice and the seafood and Japanese tofu hot pot. Yum! Others ordered the sea spice sautéed chicken, cashew chicken, and a king prawn dish, all of which were very good, even if some were more bland than others. The glass pours are hefty, especially if you opt for a «large» glass(250 mL) and appropriately priced. The tea was tasty, too. And they seem to be able to accommodate modest-to-large groups with no fuss. It’s not an exquisite dining experience, but if you are shut out of the other, packed, Chinese establishments along Queensway, you won’t be disappointed. At all. They appear to have delicious dim sum, but since it was dinnertime, we obviously did not sample it.

Under New Management! As the above suggests, Kam Tong has changed hands. Not that I have anything to compare it with, as this was my first visit, but, I do have experience with Chinese food, and this was jolly good. There really isn’t much to add, I simply had a delightful meal. However, some may say that you could do some ‘extreme eating’ in this restaurant, as they offer unusual dishes such as; seasoned jelly fish(yes I did try and loved it), duck tongue(I can’t imagine there is much meat on that), chicken feet and salted egg(which I was told by my Malay eating companion, was eggs cooked in pee — still tried it!). But having been brought up on foods like chicken feet, tripe, liver, kidney and heart, it sits neatly in the esteemed norm echelon of the B family! The staff were outstanding! So much so I was moved to comment to the owner just how refreshing it was to be served in this manner. Overall a thumbs up from moi.

Kam Tong is under new management and their new manager actually sent me a message through Unilocal informing me of this and inviting me to dine again and see if things had improved after my last less than wonderful meal This evening, I popped in for a quick bite. I made in with 5 minutes to spare til the 5pm deadline for ordering dim sum. This could have led to my initially rather curt greeting but they visibly relaxed through my visit I ordered a trio of dishes — Assam curry chicken puff, Thai marinated chicken feet and Shanghai pork buns. Coming from different sections of the kitchen, it would show off the breadth of any improvements they had made to the dim sum menu Overall, there was much more flavour in all three dishes. The chicken curry filling was spicy but not overly hot. The Thai chicken feet had a lovely tang of sweet with some sour and the pickkled vegetables served alongside were just as intended. The Shanghai buns wrappers were a bit delicate and leaked the precious soup from inside, which was a shame as the soup was lovely and had a nice kick My only gripe is that the portions were a little mean — only 3 Shanghai buns for example when most places would serve 4 A definite improvement but there had to be with Royal China just up the road and I noticed a new dim sum joint has just opened opposite on the site of the now-closed Kiasu restaurant

A blessing in disguise. I was kind of afraid of going to another Chinese restaurant while in the area because of my last experience, getting yelled at and paying and arm and a leg. So I gave this Chinese restaurant a chance because at the time I was hungry and didn’t want to walk anymore. The food was good and I had the duck and BBQ pork, but nothing to rave about. What blew my mind was that our waiter was very nice and personable, which I never received before at any Asian restaurant even in the states. other than that the place was a little pricy but good.

Kam Tong has been here forever but I heard it had recently been taken over by new management so was curious to see how it fared in comparison to it’s previous incarnation and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. We arrived early on a Saturday and there was already a small queue waiting for the doors to open. Once inside, the place is much brighter and although plainer, had some nice details. We were quickly seated and given menus. We ordered a selection of dim sum and a couple of other dishes. I would highly recommend the dim sum which all turned up hot and tasty. The prawn dumplings were succulent and the pastry skins nice and thin. The pork puffs were flaky, moist and sweet probably one of the best in town, and the vietnamese spring rolls perfectly crisp and not too oily. They had a couple of items that you don’t always see on traditional menus like the curry puff and and the xo scallop dumplings which were really good, as well as the mooli cubes done Malaysian style. The beef ho fun noodles were also excellent they can sometime come too oily but here, it was really good and the beef was tender. The veg we ordered(gai lan) was perfectly crisp without being hard. The Hokkien fried rice was also very good. My favourite was the portugese egg tarts OMG, yum! Staff are friendly, efficient and helpful, In summary, this place is a classy one(proper table cloths and napkins), with good quality, authentic food with decent portion sizes at pretty reasonable prices. Top marks! I will definitely come back.

I was a little bit afraid of eating here based on these reviews, and some stories in the paper about mice jumping out of their sweet n’ sour sauce. But, the dirtiest Chinese restaurants are always the best(!), and I’ve noticed that when Chinese restaurants open for the first time/after restaurants renovate, this is when they are at the top of their game. Seeing that Royal China was closed down the street, I came here with my boyfriend for dim sum. It was jam packed with people with a lineup out the door. We were starving, and when the food came, it was fantastic! The shrimp dumplings(har gao) were flavourful with chivey goodness. The sesame prawn tunnels(love the name) were delicious, the cooked sesame seeds adding a nice aroma. The Shanghai soup filled buns were perfect, although of course, once they had cooled down they were not as good as when they were hot. I was not too keen on the spring rolls as most of the content was bamboo shoots. However, everything else, including the sugar cane steamed cake(ma li goa) was so yummy. I shall return! Side note don’t be scared by the long line out front, it is really fast(particularly if you are 2 people)

In summary, very good food and not so good service. It’s true that they are very efficient and fast, but not nice at all, at least the waitress that served us. That’s the only thing that prevented me for giving 5 stars, because I really liked the food. We tried chicken with lemon sauce and egg fried rice and two dim sum dishes: crispy prawn fried rolls and tangerine meat balls(steamed pork and beef over a thin layer of tofu, or something like that). I loved everything and my boyfriend, who is very demanding when it comes to Chinese food and rice, was very pleased.

My parents have a strange draw for this place and we come here sometimes(when we don’t go to Royal China). I never really thought much about it really and thought a revisit for a Unilocal review was due! Unfortunately this fails the recently started«Roast duck test». The duck was not flavourful enough and the skin soggy and chewy. Roast belly of pork was a midge too fatty, but skin was nicely crisp and the meat flavourful(only saving grace of this sorry plate). The rice was overcooked and not hot enough and the sauce too soya~y without depth. Worst is they don’t have soured plum sauce. Or rather the wait staff don’t speak cantonese and I don’t know how to order or explain it well enough in english. Ordering food in chinese in London never has been a problem for me until now. I supposed that is my fault… sigh.
