The none seafood items were less good however so this place might not be ideal for people who are not into seafood or have allergies. The service, as expected was very solid, nothing less that I would expect from a D&D restaurant. All in all it was a very pleasant lunch, I have managed to try some classic British seafood items that were executed finely to do them justice. Price wise the 3 course set lunch costed me £25 which is not a bad deal considering the quality of the cooking. It also has a more expensive market fish menu that offers whole fishes and prime cuts, which I am confident it could only be better.

This review is for the NOTTINGGILLCHIPPY* pop up restaurant at the Kensington Place. If you’re in London and looking for some delicious sea good options, head here immediately. This fun, fantastic pop up is open till the end of August ’15. We tried almost everything on the menu** and it was super fresh and incredibly yummy! The lobster thermi-bun drenched in bechemal sauce was incredible — the lobster was creamy and the bun was crispy — a clear winner for me. The bitter & twisted scampi were 4 giant jumbo prawns deep fried in a spicy scampi sauce — loved it. Our friends also got the fish finger butty with a spicy ketchup and the fish and chips(the portion size was huge). Everyone loved everything — classic dishes with a twist in an affordable price range(6 – 9GBP each). Go now! * ** menu:

A sad come down from the restaurant’s glory days. Used to be the place to go and be seen but now it limps along on it’s laurels. Our started of Devon crab was lovely and fresh but the main course of Lemon sole was sad and limp. Shame.

I went here for my work Christmas lunch this past Friday. We were set up in the Private dining room, which was pretty sweet. It was nicely decorated for Christmas, and had carols playing. The dining room is quite open, and it has a wall of windows facing the street, so I hope you don’t mind people looking in on you. The staff were attentive, and were well versed in the menu. I have some allergies, and they knew what was in the food, so were able to advise me on the best choice and when the food was served, they advised what had been removed so I could eat it. The food was presented very nicely, and the flavours complimented each other. The only tip I have, is that the main serving isn’t very large, so definitely order some side dishes to go with them. I’d definitely come back here again, perhaps that time ordering some fish.

Don’t assume they are always full just because they get good ratings, I just walked in on the off chance this evening, peak time on a Saturday, no problem.

This is essentially a fish restaurant and it knows its stuff. It offers the traditional such as fish soup with rouille or plain grilled fish with a choice of sauces, but also has some truly delicious and inventive dishes such as the slightly curried crab served with a chapathi. The wine list was sound and there are good opportunities for people watching. Prices are very reasonable. I took one star off for poor service — our waitress barely spoke or understood English

My friend and I were going to an event and wanted to find a place to eat before hand. We didn’t know any restaurants in the area and just decided to give this one a try after reading the menu outside. It turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The décor of the restaurant is a bit hipster meets Scandinavia with some cool art works. Every table has a fish shaped porcelain water jag. It is quite fun and corky. The food was really nice. I ordered a roasted figs and cheese salad. The sweetness of the figs worked well with the saltiness of the blue cheese. Very refreshing. For main, I had roasted cod with cured ham. It was perfectly cooked and had great flavor. Oh, did I mention that they served nice warm bread at the table. So good! Definitely will go back next time I am in Notting Hill Area.

This review is not about Indian food. My boyfriend used to loathe Indian cuisine. It wasn’t until he tried it in London when he converted over to all things curry. I asked him just the other day to re-confirm his love for Indian. «Oh boy, London does Indian right.» I then asked him how it compares to how it’s done in India. «Eh, it’s ok» Really? Really? Really? Indian food is better in England than in India? Such shit crazy storm I tell you. I hate beets, not to the point where I will throw them back at the kitchen or anything but just never really had any use for them. But when our waitress at Kensington Place suggested a beet-filled vegetarian entrée I nearly lost it. My boyfriend did the whole«wow, that sounds delicious» routine. Probably because our waitress was cute. I’m still a little jealous but now we’re back in Burlingame and in a week or so I will get over it. But i digress. I won’t speak of my entrée. It was a fish dish that would kick the living shit out of anything you can find back in California but my boyfriends beets were simply sinful. The Chef put together something that even the Angels in Heaven would bring to Jesus himself. And the colors? Not the purple beets I have grown accustomed, there were yellow beets too! I will remember Kensington Place for a very long time. Just keep that cute waitress away from our table.

Nice place with pretty good food. Service excellent, wine good, vibe upbeat. I have to give special props to a cooking technique I had never encountered before. I ordered the confit of salmon which was cooked in a vacuum sealed bag in a water bath of 50 degrees centigrade. The salmon had a very unusual, flaky texture, which combined with the peas, broad beans, keta and horseradish, created an unforgettable dish. When I return home I will definitely try that method.

So yes, I did have some of the best lamb I’ve ever had at a «fish» restaurant. It was so soft, so perfectly cooked, with girolles and Jerusalem artichoke. What is not to like? We started with a massive platter of shellfish, all of which was very high quality. They also have a good wine list. The people watching is also pretty funny.

Great place, been back several times. Had to wait a while for a table once but other than that the service has been good. The cauliflower soup and the salt cod fishcakes are amazing. I have recommended this restaurant to several friends who also gave it a thumbs up.

So-so. The décor feels a little worn and chairs a little creaky, but it’s going to be renovated soon. A washer in a toilet tap needed to be replaced and was on constantly, and the environmentalist in me wept. As for the food, it was enjoyable. Enjoyably average. Plain, simple, okay. It’s not a place for a fancy dinner, more of a too lazy to cook everyday fare. I usually round the suggested tip according to the amount of cash in my wallet, and the sum. Sometimes I round up, sometimes I round down. It’s never usually over or under by a pound. This time, I rounded down by 88p off the suggested tip. The waitress chased us down as we were about to leave, tried to create a scene in front of the whole restaurant, and made us feel like criminals. Over 88p. I went back to see the manager the next day(I didn’t want to tackle this in front of my guests on the day). He was extremely sympathetic, and incredibly understanding. A*.

Nice place, but nothing remarkable. I found the service attentive, and the food A-OK. I had the fois gras and halibut, as well as water and a glass of chablis. The fois gras was not good. Not that it was spoiled — and I’m a HUGE fan of fois gras normally — but the taste seemed too fatty, not flavorful, and the jam/bread that it was paired with just didn’t melt into a nice set of flavors. The presentation in a jar was not a winner in my book from the perspective of «interaction» with food. Do I really want to think my fois gras was tinned? The bread was terrific; the waiters really did take to ensure my glasses were full and my needs were met. The main course — halibut — was terrific, mostly. The fish was fantastic, and the miniature asparagus+clams it was paired with went quite well. I found the creamy sauce too salty, however. It seemed to kill the flavour of the fish. Overall, a tentative recommendation. They had fresh mint tea, which is always a winner in my book — and I didn’t have any of the deserts. The place was fairly empty when I came in(8:30pm Monday night), and generally filed up towards 10 but still had plenty of seats. The décor is lovely, though the restrooms are reminiscent of airplane ones — in a bad way. However, overall the atmosphere was pleasant and ambience was nice.

Mediocrity rolled into pretentiousness, a dish, apparently, best served cold. On a friend’s request to go some place ‘more upscale’, we found ourselves one evening at Kensington Place resto and bar. When I walked in I discovered that most of the waiters were male annnd seemed to be models, nice touch ;) but after sitting down for our meal I constantly felt pressured to order quick and order a lot to increase my bill. Really I don’t care if I’m at the Ritz, be attentive as much as you like but don’t annoy me buy suggesting the most expensive wine clearly because it’s the most expensive wine, if you know what I mean? Food I remember was pretty good, seemed to like my appetizer of crab Martini much better than my main entrée and my dessert was good but not too memorable. Not very helpful am I… well if you want to go some place posh and have same eye candy, here you go. If you want to go some place posh with unforgettable food try some place else.

Tasty upscale dining in London. We had no trouble getting a table on a Wednesday night. Service was painfully slow, and it took quite some time to get the bill. I ordered the John Dory fish which was well prepared and flavorful. The«Crab Martini» appetizer was excellent. 4 stars for food. 2 stars for service.

Overheard from the corner table by the window… «My my my my my, isn’t this place deliiiiiiightful dahling!?» «Raaaawww-ther! Humpf humphfuh humpfhuhfuhfuh…» Add the name«Muffy» to the conversation, and this would have been like a scene from Posh Freddie Krueger’s Nightmare on Kensington Street. Seriously, they brought out an empty bowl, filled only with posh soup garnishes, then quickly followed with a small pitcher of piping hot soup which they then poured in with frivolous zest. And there was a server whose sole purpose was to pass out fresh bread from an artisan wooden basket. Fancy? Yes. Necessary? Nope. Effective? Eh… certainly for some. Except get this… The fish was divine. The soup was to die for. And the passion fruit tart? Perfection. If you’re looking to schmooze a potential client or wow the in-laws, this place will definitely do the trick. You won’t get out scratch free, but 3 courses for £16 is certainly reasonable for this food. A bit much for a date in my book, but I truly can’t find one flaw in the food or the service. It was absolutely impeccable. Just be warned… If you are bringing a date, they might end up liking the food more than you.

Just back from a corporate do in «The Room» here. The décor is great in the room, like you are inside an Eames chair with moulded wood arcing over you head. The cod fishcake starter was very tasty, if on the small side and the Sea Bream on a bed of seared new potatoes, choritzo and beans was very tasty. Happily chose the Tart Tatin which was pleasantly tangy and sweet — the choc macaroons looked a little rich. Our lovely evening was sadly cut short by the fire brigade as there was smoke pouring out of a flat above us, and the staff calmly and professionally cleared the dining area … … but apart from that, all in all though a very pleasant evening.

I really loved this place(see previous review below) — before the disappointing experience of last Saturday night. The food has gone from divine to dull, my «Winter Vegetable Salad» starter was a plate of carrot, beetroot and pecorino romano shavings– and that was it! Not only was it dry and lacking flavour but it finally arrived at 10 o’clock. We had arrived at 8.30. Other starters of cured salmon(bland and vinegary) and the«Chicken Presse» was a limp terrine reminiscent of chicken cold cuts. The starters here used to be amazing!

Too cool for you. Well not for you, but for me maybe. Kensington Place tosses out an industrial vibe that is too cool for many but will not turn you away for for it. This is where I learned to appreciate and love to order beef dishes rare. Upon my first visit I ordered the steak special and was not even given the option of how I wanted it. The Chef already had predetermined that rare was the only way it was to be brought out. I was a little afraid and apprehensive as it came out fresh from the cow morgue. But YUM! Even it’s mommy cow would love the taste of its tasty offspring. We walked in without a reservation but got lucky to score a table. Great place to impress that out towner like myself.

We went on a Tuesday night and although a little quiet there was still a nice ambience to the restaurant. The food was very tasty and the presentation was fantastic, fresh and clean flavours although my hungrier companion felt portions were a little bit too small and boutique-y. Service was extremely friendly and efficient. Cassoulet and desserts great, good wine list by the glass or bottle. Dinner came to around £100 for two which was perhaps a little too pricey as we only each had one glass of wine.
