Food was amazing. Eschewed the lunch sets for a la carte choices. Both the crab(Cornish crab with crab bisque panna cotta) and scallop starters were unbelievable. Mains of Guinea fowl and cod were excellent as well. Cheese platter was outstanding. The only drawback was the sommelier(or some kind of beverage«expert»). I asked if she could recommend a wine that would go with all our starters and mains, and she basically told us every wine on every page would pair well with the food.

You would expect L’Autre Pied to be good, they have a Michelin star after all. However, my high expectations were well exceeded. The food, service and atmosphere were all excellent and I would happily come back. I actually came here on a voucher, so the value was even better than normal. Based on the excellence of the meal, I am surprised they even offered the voucher in the first place. I am not one to look a gift horse in the mouth! Each dish was well thought out, bursting with flavour and refined. We got a 5 course tasting menu and at the end of the meal, we were struggling so definitely skip lunch if you have a dinner booking.

The set lunch at L’Autre Pied was amazing value for money, for under £40 to have a 3 course meal of such a high standard was a real bargain, not to mention the good portioned sizes too. I had dinner at the same restaurant not long ago and it cost me three times more but in terms of quality it wasn’t massively different.

I gave four start of rating. The service is good. My friends and I went there for tasting menu, including seven dishes. The waitress asked us if there was anything on the menu that we did not like. After getting confirmation, she served yummy breads, I like the walnut bread since it still keeps warm and can feel the texture. The appetizer is pretty good. The cheese just really matches with cucumber jam. The main courses including cod, mackerel and deer. Mackerel will be a little saucy if you put sauce underneath. Otherwise, perfect. I like the cod. Especially after favorable mackerel, you can feel the texture of cod. I like my deer medium, so perfectly sense the flavor. Only one thing that I feel not satisfied-the dessert. I would say too much cream, even not creamy, makes me feel this is not a good choice of dessert. Still, overall this Michelin 1 worth your try.

Here is why I deducted 3 stars out of 5: ½ star for ambience. Really rowdy group of pub-goers having a very loud party in the back of the restaurant. Management did nothing to stop this. I have never been to a Michelin star restaurant where this happens. Felt like a carnival. ½ star for wine illiteracy i.e. time it took for«sommelier» to bring up the wine from the cellar to display at the table and then time it took for him to figure out it needed to be decanted. Totally miscalculated time needed to open up. Then for the wine tasting part, he splashed way too much in the glass — more than the customary sip or two needed for a proper swirl and taste. Total noob. 1 star deducted for hitting us over be head with excruciatingly keen flavors. The food was well conceptualized but the execution was poor. The sauces were too robust, the flavors were less than delicate and the combinations of these often made no sense at all. Eg the kefir lime was too tart in the coconut lime rice pudding(imaginative choice, poor execution) 1 star deducted for disinterest in feedback. When I called the next day to give the manager some feedback, she was less than interested in what I had to say. Did not take it seriously at all. Says a lot about how much the restaurant really cares. Amuse bouche(chicken liver parfait with blood orange jelly) was a disaster, tastewise, but no stars deducted for this. What we ordered: scallop cevice and foie gras for starters, suckling pig and lamb for mains and coconut rice pudding for dessert. Food was just about average — nothing to rave about. (For a review of a restaurant that deserves every Michelin star it has, see Arzak). Am surprised that L’Autre Pied still sports a Michelin star. It’s pricey, but thats to be expected. I guess all of the above explains why they had to resort to Grouponing recently. I would not go there again and recommend that you give other better/Michelin star restaurants your patronage.

Delicious dishes — as you would expect from such a restaurant, each course is small but you soon fill up from the number of them. The best bit is definitely the olive tapanade bread rolls. Freshly baked and so delicious we wish we could take a whole load back home with us! There was an art exhibition going on in the restaurant and included a really interesting piece of work showing the heart rate of the chefs and waiters. The waiters took the time to introduce them to us and explain the art work which was really nice of them.

I booked this with a friend as part of a Groupon deal — for £31 a person, the opportunity was too good to pass up! We went for Sunday lunch after booking well in advance. It seemed like everyone else at the restaurant was on the same deal as well. Anyway, it was a good 7 courses starting with an artichoke amuse bouche, followed by a few salad courses, but the best part was really the partridge and the venison courses. Of course, everything was styled beautifully and there were a lot of interesting textures like foam, powder, and jelly. I didn’t particularly care for the pre-dessert and dessert courses… the first was a very tart passion fruit on top of a type of yogurt, and the last was coconut rice pudding. But overall our service was excellent, the food was incredibly unique, and the interior of the restaurant was very well done. What a bargain for a Michelin star restaurant in London!

L’Autre Pied is a fit for foodies. Having visited its sister restaurants Pied à Terre and a pop-up restaurant Pieds Nus, L’Autre Pied in Marylebone remains my favourite of all the creations of the restaurateur David Moore. I’ve discovered the place at a regular Taste of London food festival, where it has won a ‘Best Dish’ award. Seven and nine course tasting menus offer plenty to discover. Impressive cooking is showcased in a great variety of dishes: from flavoursome foie gras to delicate pigeon with beetroot. Who says Michelin-starred dining needs to be formal? Table linen-less informal dimly lit atmosphere, enjoyable food, welcoming attentive service. Totally worth the price. Very highly recommended! Would visit again? Yes.

It sits in quite a modern setting and it is great — cheaper than the mothership, the pied a terre, but still quite nice good. It still does not have any wow factor for me, hence 3 star, for me. It is good — it does everything you expect from the restaurant in this price range. It is great for dinner with friends as it is rather modern finish and not too romantic setting

We came here for the tasting menu, and it was extremely good. The service here can be expected of any Michelin star restaurant, which was quite good. We got a deal to come here for the tasting menu on Groupon, which cost 39 pounds. Usual price would have been double that. But I still think the overall experience is very much worth it and would recommend this Michelin 1 star restaurant to people who want to experience some fine cuisine during their visit in London!

Went here with friends for lunch since we all wanted to try a Michelin Star restaurant. We initially wanted to go to a Gordon Ramsey restaurant but all of his restaurants were completely booked the week we were in London. This place is a 10-minute walk from the tube station. From outside, you wouldn’t think it’s a Michelin Star restaurant. The façade was simple. Inside, the décor was modern and the restaurant looked clean and crisp. We all tried their prix fixe lunch which includes an amuse bouche. Here was their menu: Appetizer(a choice of) Salad of Radishes with Black Quinoa with crime fraiche, fennel and dill OR Baked beet roots with blackberries, goats curd and herbs. Both appetizers were delicious. I just found the salad of radishes similar to their amuse bouche for that day. Entrée(a choice of) Poached Hake with Parmesan Crust, confit tomato and squid ink OR Roe Deer cooked in cocoa and juniper The Hake was good but the deer was the best. It was very flavorful and tender. Dessert Cheese Platter OR White chocolate and cardamom Panna Cotta with orange and olive oil purée and cherry sorbet None of us tried the cheese platter. The panna cotta though was delicious. It was the best way to end a lovely meal. If you want to try a Michelin Star restaurant, this is a must try especially if you are traveling on a budget. For a three course meal, we spent £28 per person.

Truly a worthy place with terrific food, service, wine, and ambience. I had the tasting menu, combined with the tasting menu for wine. It was absolutely incredible and remains one of the best dining experiences I had in London and the world. I highly recommend the tasting menu — the courses go together perfectly, and you will come out feeling that you have tried excellent and diverse cuisine.

We came here for a ‘two for one’ Groupon special for the seven course tasting menu. 1. Amuse Bouche — a light mouse with seeds for texture 2. Ceviche of pollock, black quinoa, crème fraîche — one of my favourites 3. Baked beetroot with balsamic and fennel 4. Raviolo of roe deer and tea marinated prunes — a chunky looking raviolo which tasted good 5. Roast breast of guinea fowl — the main course 6. Pre dessert — a creamy mouse 7. Caramelised banana cheesecake with passionfruit sorbet — another of my favourites, I wanted to eat another straight afterwards. I enjoyed the flavours of the dishes. They evidently had a lot of different ingredients and I could appreciate the effort that had gone into making each of them. It was fun to identify the ingredients and sample the flavour combinations. The service was good, but sometimes I felt like they were going through a scripted process repeated for many tables. However I appreciated the server giving us a short explanation of each dish they brought out. I thought it was very good value given that we got two for one. But I’m not sure I would go if it were full price. (This review is for a visit we made late in 2012, which I had missed reviewing until now.)

Have been here twice now and both times had a fantastic experience! Both times I have been on a Sunday which means there is a limited menu, and I can see the more fussy eaters not finding anything. Luckily I was with a group who will try anything! For starters I had mackerel which was beautifully cooked with fantastic crispy skin but extremely tender meat. For main I had hogget, a meat I had never tried before. It was spiced fantastically and had three different pieces of meat. It also came with aubergine which was cooked beautifully! Finally for desert, had an amazing chocolate mouse/cake thing which also tasted incredible. The price of this place means I’m unlikely to go back regularly but they do add some nice touches for your money. You are served fresh bread throughout the meal(go for the brioche!), you get an appitiser and also some miniature cakes if you get coffees. One down side of the experience is the service, it is just too attentive! There is a waiter/ress for everything! I found it a little unnerving every time I went to the toilet they would fold up my napkin…

Whilst the food in this place was good, the experience was a bit disappointing. I took my girlfriend, who is French, for her birthday. We arrived at 8pm last Saturday night and were seated immediately. We were left for a long time before anyone came to see us(a good 20 mins). This is forgivable, though it irks me a little(having worked in restaurants). Saying that the waitress was nice and the service very goo after that. We got a bit of a shock when we looked at the menu and found that there was a lack of staple French food. No chicken, lamb or beef. The game reads well and there was fish, but that was it. The waitress came over to tell us about the special … pigeon. My girlfriend, out for her birthday treat, did not really fancy anything on the menu. She is a bit fussy(allergic to a couple of things and does not like game) but to not having chicken, lamb or beef on the menu is criminal. This would never happen in a proper French restaurant! She had a crab pasta that was a bit bland. Too salty and no real taste. My foie gras was nice, though I am not a massive fan of it fried(my pereference and not their cooking). She has place for the main which was pretty nice. I had deer, which was absolutely delicious. The meet was incredibly tender and the best venison I have had. A cracking main. Te dessert, Valhorana chocolate, was superb. The place is nice, there is a good ambience, service good and there are some lovely touches(palate clensors and bread etc). However the choice really let us down, despite some of the food being excellent. I felf the chef tried to overcomplicate things too. He/she was clearly trying to be innovative, but it was too much.(museli like) Oats with my foie gras was an example. It just took away from the dish. Also, there were too many flavours and it did not work(her starter where nothing stood out and it was bland, despite 5 or 6 ingredients). To say it cost me £130 I felt a bit let down. The food is generally pretty good, but it is a bit pretentious and definately over rated.

Hmm. I love fine dining. I love Michelin stars. I have high expectations. I kind of go into these types of restaurants thinking that they’ll be the best, with the best food and the best service, giving me an amazing dining experience. I go into them thinking, I’ll be reviewing it on Unilocal with five stars!(I love giving five stars!) Why two stars? Well let me explain. I’ve been using Groupon for years. Since before I moved to London. I got to go to some amazing restaurants in the Bay Area with some amazing deals. So I decide to sign up when I move to London thinking that my wonderful experiences should extend. So, when I see a half-price tasting menu for two I jump on board ASAP! I had previously purchased one for Le Semplice, and had quite a nice time. My expectations of Groupon are that businesses are giving these discounts in order to get new people in, and hopefully give them a good experience so they’ll want to come back. I’m never going back to L’Autre Pied. First(and I was warned), they limit your seating to two hours. I’ve never eaten at a Michelin Star restaurant that tells you in advance that they are limiting your time. Clearly they over-booked the vouchers, and they needed to push the mass quantities of people who purchased them through the restaurant. So –1 star, as it doesn’t give you the same fine dining feeling as you’re used to, you just feel like cattle needed to be fed as quickly as possible and pushed out of the feeding area. We were sitting at a small two-person table between the front dining area and the back dining area. When we arrived, the restaurant was only half-full(or less), and they sat us in this area before many of the other two-person tables were occupied. The seats were in a small area directly across from the staging area and the waitstaff computer. So basically there are people there all the time. There was rarely a time there weren’t waitstaff or runners standing next to us. It makes your intimate experience a bit less intimate. Also, there was a table I could see that was completely empty until we left. Why even have a table in that area? It is really inappropriate. So –1 star for crappy seating. So the food. The food was really good actually. The jerusalem artichoke veloute was delicious. The cheesecake was fantastic. Unfortunately, the best course was the cheese(which is a bit strange as they didn’t make it) as the brie they chose was one of the best bries I’ve ever eaten. The meat course of deer and beetroot was top notch. Most of the wine pairings were great, and I got to try some new and interesting wines. I always love trying new and interesting wines! However, I would rather go to a place that served okay food and had amazing service than a place that has amazing food and just okay service. Service is very important to me(and my partner), and I expect top-quality service from a Michelin star restaurant. They don’t just get their star for the food, it’s for the whole dining experience. They bring us our after dinner sweet nibbles that I’ve become accustomed to at these restaurants. Three pieces. Not three pieces each. Three pieces. For two people. You do the math(or maths in the UK). That’s 1.5 per person. Luckily, I was with my partner so we could split these tiny bites of sweets at the end. Then, the table near us(of two) who was also eating the same tasting menu got six(two of each). As I was thinking about the three star review I was going to write, it then became a two star review for stinginess. I know we look young, and we’re on a voucher, but the service is included. Just give us the damn sweets! Heading to the bathrooms after dinner, I was scoping the joint for anything I could pick up and put in my pocket. Luckily, there was either nothing small enough or my brain kicked in, and I left with only my own possessions in my pocket. I wont be going back, and as soon as my Groupon credits are gone, I’m giving up on them too, my experiences with them lately have just been terrible, and my experience at L’Autre Pied just validated that.

L’Autre Pied offers the type of sophisticated food that can only be found in in the precision of French technique. The dining room is small, dark, intimate and very tasteful and the mostly French staff was a bit more friendly than you would expect. The amuse bouche of celeraic foam and crispy quail egg was amazing. No one reveal the secret behind getting the egg crispy while still having the yoke run. The starter of foie gras was wonderfully tender and the four other components of Turnip and Ginger Cake, Glazed Endive, Pickled Turnips, Baby Wood Sorrelon the dish only complimented it. Pork was served three ways. The seared bass came out with the skin still crispy.(Even at these type of establishments the skin can become wet and unappealing to eat). Everything on the plate worked together on both mains. The Tiramisu was like nothing I’ve seen before and a great interpretation of the original. The mascarpone ice cream was so light it was like a fluffy cloud in my mouth The pasty was encased in a thin layer of chocolate. Amazing! On my most recent trip to the UK this was my best meal.

It was a good start to the year. Last weekend, I was fortunate to watch Sister Act, the musical followed by dinner at L’Autre Pied. Having eaten at 2 Michelin starred Pied a Terre for my 40th birthday, I’ve been curious to see how this sister restaurant compares. Chef Marcus Eaves was set up here by the team at Pied a Terre and has already won his own star. Booking was straightforward online though I was perturbed to see that they specified a 2 hour table time. I rung to check that there would be time to eat the 7 course tasting menu and was assured that this would be fine. It was a bitterly cold night and it was nice to get into the warm restaurant. Service was nice and attentive throughout the evening though we did struggle to get a clean glass — one glass with a funny smell was replaced by another with the same smell. We did settle on the tasting menu, which ended up being 8 dishes with the addition of an amuse bouche. I would characterise Chef Eaves’ food as classical with a good understanding of flavour combinations but with a mercurial touch with texture. Many dishes were enhanced with ingredients which added crunch. 1. Amuse bouche of hollowed out egg with bacon and lentils topped with goat’s cheese foam. Delicious and most inventive dish of the evening. All the flavours melded perfectly 2. Jerusalem artichoke veloute, chicken parfait, mushroom vinaigrette. The cold savoury chicken parfait was the perfect foil to the velvety soup. Genius 3. Seared foie gras, apple sorbet, baby artichoke, black pepper crisps. I loved the seared foie gras and the apple sorbet was an explosion of flavour. However, I couldn’t get a single mouthful of the various components to sing together as well as they did on their own. 4. Roasted turbot, crisped rice and some vegetables I can’t remember! The crisped rice added a nice crunchy sidekick to the sweet fish. 5. Cornish lamb with some other vegetables I can’t remember I’m going to pause at this stage because I have to point out that one poor aspect of our meal was the fact that all the above courses as well as time to sit down, choose our meal, etc took 45 minutes. It felt very rushed and it all seemed a bit of a blur, which was a real shame. 6. A selection of 5 French cheeses. Nice combo but we saved space for dessert 7. Nice light pre-dessert of a glass containing panna cota at the bottom, fruit compote and light whipped flavoured cream on top. 8. Pain d’epice foam, banana ice cream, hazelnut madeleine. Nice flavours and a good end to the meal. At this stage, we were feeling quite stuffed, partly due to the volume of food but also because the courses had come at a very fast rate. This was a real shame as cooking of this quality should be savoured, not wolfed down.

Beautiful restaurant interior that makes you calm and ready for your meal. Lured by the Michelin star, we arrived early for dinner at L’Autre Pied. The scallops were heavenly, and while the boyfriend ordered foie gras and I would not touch it, he stated that it was very good. Our birds of the evening were mallard and pigeon, which were both excellent. Desserts came out looking sweetly whimsical and tasty — a coffee crème and a crumble. Overall, it was a fine meal and I would take people back to L’Autre Pied for dinner.
