Very British pub in the city… Lots of regulars and spacious. Friendly staff and normal selection of drinks. Pool table at the top…

Worst pub food ever. What was otherwise a lovely evening ruined by the rubbish food and stale beers! We had a minimum spend because we reserved an area with pool tables and they charged us for those to, on top! All the food was deep fried and tasted of stale oil which had been used a number if time s. Even the chips tasted uggh! The whisky measures although you pay for a double are less than that, prices are double! The. Beer was stale to, we had to repeatedly for them that!

So I might be a little biased about this place as it took me 30 minutes to find it from the moment I stepped out of St. Paul’s station. It doesn’t help that it started pouring rain harder than I ever experienced in my 4.5 years in England. It’s a little hidden behind a shop in front of it and towards the street end there’s a bridge overpass. The street area around it didn’t look very lively so I kept not making it to the end of path. Kept missing it! Anyway, once I finally got in there, the place was two floors and deceptively big for its humble exterior. The inside has a bit of an annoying music player and the drinks are quite expensive. Though I suppose it’s the center of town with lots of investment banks around so it’s a good business strategy. Can’t blame them for making that money. It wasn’t very crowded around 5pm so we had plenty of seats and enjoyed the open fire. The upstairs has a pool table and darts so that might be worth a shot(ha! pun). Nice place to watch football as they have a big TV and there aren’t a ton of competitors in terms of pubs in the area.

Bier in reichlicher Auswahl vorhanden.

Pub near St Paul’s Tube station. It’s a bit of a Tardis, looks small from the outside but huge space inside and on two floors. Reasonably priced for The City.

Lord Raglan, I blame you for getting«Paparazzi» stuck in my head all this week. OK, Spotify may have helped, but it all started one night when a group of us came here for a drink after(ironically) an avant-garde concert at St. Anne & St. Agnes church around the corner. This place’s main advantage is the fact that it seems to be one of the few pubs in this part of town. Other than that, it’s a charmless Taylor Walker chain joint, with a soundtrack seemingly consisting of all novelty songs and pop hits. If you must go, have pint of real ale; their Pimms isn’t worth it.

Ah, I used to work right next door to the Raglan and naturally went there for a couple of beers on a few evenings after workI do agree, it has a kind of livingroom atmosphere, especially if sitting upstairs. However, a few years ago some refurbishment was done and they did away with that lovely open fire place that used to make upstairs a really really cozy place. Sad! But oh well, I still like the Raglan for the good memories and keep going there once in a wile for a drink and sometimes even a snack. It’s a great venue for watching footie and cricket as well!

What really marks the Raglan out is that it never seems to feel rammed — busy yes, crazy no. Upstairs is my favourite area: sofas, huge TVs, pool and darts, a little bar. In fact it’s a bit like a living room, and I’d imagine it’s an excellent place for a couple of relaxing pints after a hard day’s merchant banking. And I can heartily recommend the Black’n’Blue burger: not bad at all. I agree it’s a bit expensive, but it is in the shadow of St Paul’s and opposite a couple of investment banks, and it’s no more expensive than anywhere else. The staff always seem a bit too rushed and disorganised to be happy to see you, but that seems to be increasingly common these days: if I found a barmaid that was genuinely happy and friendly I’d probably think she’d been at the stock. Four stars and not five, purely because I’m writing this on a grey Monday afternoon and they don’t have Doom Bar. Fair? Bah. Muahahahaha.

A strange little place that’s a bit Tardis like — this pub is a lot bigger than it looks on the outside. And, as the rooms open up in front of you, there’s a screen in every corner. If you’re in the City, this isn’t a bad place to watch football. There’s enough room and a good chance of getting a seat next to the numerous screens. There’s also a decent selection of beers and the bar staff are very friendly. However, it is a bit on the pricey side. This isn’t a problem if you’re a City Boy who smokes roll-ups made from five pound notes, but for the rest of us, it does make that difference between two or three pints in the evening. Plus the pool table is £1.50. Although there are two one them, and one is a rarity enough in London these days. Also, a few nights earlier I went to Byron for a burger and paid only a little bit more than I did for a similar burger in this place. The food’s ok, but a couple of quid too expensive. Get a pint and watch the football and leave it at that and your wallet won’t wince too much
