MacIntyre Coffee was a brilliant place to shoot the breeze on a lazy weekend. It wasn’t so much as a coffee shop as it was a place to socialise. Alex, the owner, was happy to let people hang out and play games(by which I mean D&D and board games). In the early weeks when he was setting up, it wasn’t unusual to see Alex pottering about with tools working on constructing the perfect shelf or what not. In fact, there wasn’t much in the shop which didn’t bear Alex’s mark and that’s what made this place stand out: his sheer determination to see if he could make even the smallest piece of equipment just that little bit better. Alex also had hook-ups with American roasters — Ceremony and Heart, just to name two — so that you can be assured he’ll always have some on stock for you to sample or purchase. You may wonder why I’ve been using the past tense. Well, MacIntyre, as we all knew it, came to an end over a week ago. A new landlord acquired the building and gave them a week to vacate the premises. *sad face* Still, I know Alex has plans for the future, and, hopefully, it won’t be too long before he resurfaces!

My favourite coffee shop in London(and I’ve been a lot of them) It’s fun to work here and see that the baristas are having fun doing their job — it’s an entertaining place with some really high quality coffee.(I luuuurve the nice long shots of espresso and the bulk filter makes it very easy to get a coffee even when they’re busy). Oh, and thanks to Shoreditchworks next door — fastest wifi in town too. Brill.

Tiny but fantastic coffee shop in Hoxton. Friendly baristas behind the counter, and my flat white was absolutely perfect. WiFi + a handful of places to sit available as well!
