i stayed at the mayflower hotel when visiting london for business reasons, which meant my requirements were probably different from a lot of visitors. As long as it was clean, had good wifi, near to a few places for a bite to eat and had quick access to the tube i was happy. I’d seen a few dodgy looking pictures on trip advisor, but my understanding was the hotel had been refurbished since then, so i booked anyway and wasnt disappointed. The reception was welcoming, bright, clean and staff helpful. The lift was in working order and my room was quiet event through the tube station(which is overground at that point) is behind it. The bed was enormous, the bathroom brand new and everything clean and well maintained. I had absolutely no complaints. The room was on the small side, but as there was only 1 of me and all i did was sit in bed and work it made no difference to whatsoever. Had i needed to sit at a desk and work though that would have been a problem as the desk was more of a console table. There wasn’t a fridge(as mentioned by a previous reviewer), but i’m not really sure that’s standard in the UK so i have no reason to complain about that. Price is typical of London in the £110 — £140(including VAT) bracket depending on what deal you manage to get and if i remember rightly breakfast was included(but i didn’t eat as i started work again at 7am. Boooo!) Nice little independent hotel. keep up the good work.

It gets 2 stars cause the bed was nice and the food was good. Otherwise it would have received no stars. There was no bar fridge and no ice available either, and the ‘valet car parking’ consisted of us driving ourselves to some guys personal lot where we were charged £30 a day only to have them not keep records and send us emails and notes under the door asking us over and over again to pay for parking. Would not stay here again.

So, I’ve stayed here twice, both experiences very distinct. The first stay was excellent. The room was small but very comfortable. We had a big window we could open and the space was used well. The bathroom was very clean and modern with an awesome rain showerhead, also very small. I will say that the space was just what we needed though, we were never uncomfortable or cramped(there were 2 of us). There was a complimentary breakfast in the morning which was good, cereal, croissants, juice, coffee and hot food was available for purchase. The hotel is also well situated and is a block away from the Earl’s Court tube stop. Convenient for us as we came from Heathrow, the Piccadilly line took us directly there. The staff was friendly and helpful. I believe there was free wifi but am not positive. We were here for a few nights and then were off to Paris. However, on our way back is a different story. Apparently, the hotel has rooms at an apartment house a block away. We were never told that we would not be staying at the hotel’s main grounds, nor that other grounds existed. We were tired from our travels and more walking wasn’t what we were expecting. The hotel man walked us over and we found ourselves in an in-law type dwelling with one small window after he unlocked something like 3 doors. We had no phone. This we were not happy with as we wanted to call our families and boyfriends back home(the calling card we had charged way more from a public phone). We decided to make the most of it and walked over to the Tesco which was a few blocks away for some wine and desserts to spend our evening. We came back and found a HUGE, I mean half the size of my hand, huge spider in the room. We were freaked out and proceeded to beat the life out of it. We succeeded but were still creeped out. In this room, the bed and bedding were nice and crisp, the shower was beautiful, very large. The room had a little kitchenette with dishes and all. It would be very convenient for someone on an extended stay. So nervous and freaked out we drank our wine and chilled/napped for a while. Later that night we were awakened by a woman’s screams. It sounded like she was being beat. We listened, terrified, realizing that we had no outside connection to anything, without a phone. After more listening it turned out to be people having sex next door; we could hear their entire conversation, for hours. We didn’t get much sleep as they kept waking us up. All in all, make sure that you will be staying in the main hotel.
