Japanese whiskey, huh? Is this a thing now? I suppose it is, but the Irish in me wasn’t convinced. But Mizuwari is a very sexy bar. Dark, intimate and the perfect location to take someone you don’t want your wife to see you with ;-) Kidding… maybe.
They call this a ‘dive’ bar but it couldn’t be further from that, their drinks are very well mixed and conceived. It’s not just whiskey in a glass, which is good because I am not a huge whiskey drinker. Unless you want to pick me up off the floor after. The bartender recommended us some suitably sexy drinks and all I can remember is that they were good. Very good.
Don’t let the whiskey bar concept put you off, you’re not going to be drinking shots of Jack. Each drink is accented with delicate touches like vanilla pods, citrus zests or orange blossom water. We were brought a drink with beautiful pink flower petals and an ice cube shaped like a golf ball. That’s pretty much all I remember.

So, I’m not really a big drinker but I like to try new things, so when I heard that this new whisky bar opened up, I put it on my list and I FINALLY managed to drag people to go with. (I guilt tripped them all by saying, IT’S MY BIRTHDAY!)
So how to get there, You need to walk past a fiery furnace of charcoals and dodging old drunk japanese warrior of days bygone (Just drunk japanese business man, but let’s not ruin the epic adventure narrative here.) to reach your destination. AND THERE, you will be rewarded with that well deserved well mixed whisky cocktail. It’s like a rite of passage before you level up. (or in my case, turn 23!)
The drinks are POTENT. I could only manage nearly half before I was feeling woozy and sleepy. Same goes for the rest of my party. The whisky just made us all sleepy. I ordered a Taisho and as refreshing and light as it was. It was still strong. We also ordered one with a flower and it was BEAUTIFUL but god that was strong as! LOL
The lounge décor was classy and music wasn’t too loud, it was loud enough to hear but reasonable enough to chat! I really enjoyed it!
If you’re looking for something COMPLETELY different from all the other cocktail bars out there, and budget isn’t an issue. This is the place.
