my friend had a strong sushi craving and it was 4pm on a weekday and the place she loved had closed down. We had driven out of our way to find her place and she didn’t want to budge on her sushi craving against my better judgment I decided to entertain her wishes as london is not know for sushi. I pulled out the Unilocal app and found Oishii as we where in south london and needed something close by and open. We made our way to Oishii. Once we sat down I noticed this place was an asian fusion which is red flags! you can not serve japanese, Vietnamese, chinese etc all in one place! its never good! We both had the bento boxes and they are £12−13 each. The quality and service was bad, food overpriced… left there feeling ripped off. This place has some good reviews but I should have known better as they haven’t had reviews in a few years. This place is also in a bit of a ghetto location is peckham so I don’t know how they can stay open selling overpriced bad food in this area. We where also the only one in this place plus was not happy they added some random sit in taxs which i haven’t seen on the bills before so needless to say we didn’t leave a tip. Only thing which tasted good here was the miso soup. We also asked the waiter for recommendation and he acted shocked and said I don’t know. waiters should always know whats good on the menu!

A friend of mine told me about this place and we decided to go and check it out. It was quite the drive but it was worth it the food was delicious and the staff was impossibly friendly :)

If you manage to make it for happy hour sushi this place is a bargain! If not it’s still actually pretty reasonable for the price, it’s not the greatest sushi you will eat in your life, but it’s good for the price. They also have a private karaōke room downstairs which is pretty cool, and soo much cheaper than lucky voice. The décor is a little bit tired, but you get what you pay for. Man, I sound like a cheapskate but for me, food first!

If Oishii was located in Northcote Road or in Clapham, it would get 3 out of 5 stars as it would just be average amongst strong competition. As it is, Oishii is probably the only Japanese, Chinese, and pan-Asian restaurant in this area of Streatham Hill, so one can’t be too picky. The food is decent, the portions are good sized, and the prices are reasonable(slightly on the high side). The London Insider

Oishii made me happy when I lived in Streatham Hill — no need to go trekking to find decent sushi when it was right on my doorstep! It wasn’t cheap at the time, and definitely a ‘special’ meal out, but it was good sushi and best of all finally convinced my mother to step outside her comfort zone and try the stuff out. Hurray for Oishii!

This place would be great if it werent so expensive. You just get the feeling they are trying to scrape by. When they have happy hour deals totally worth it to run in early … take away and eat later!!! They should do pre-packaged sushi to go maybe at cheaper price or something as it is such a local its a shame can’t justify going more often.

OK, I have to be fair, the only thing I’ve ever bought from Oishii is take away chilli salt squid. However, that’s because it’s the BEST squid I have ever had. A little on the pricey side, but it’s a stones throw from me, so I’m not complaining.

I was in need of a takeaway with a difference this evening and opted for healthy Japanese instead of delicious-but-stodgy Indian after browsing through some local options on the Hungry House website. I was pleased to discover Oishii were happy to deliver to Herne Hill and chose a nice selection of veggie dishes. It’s a real shame the minimum order amount is £15 — I’ve found that for most takeaway places it’s usually a tenner, which is much easier to justify for one person. I had to order quite a lot of food to make the target, which wasn’t necessarily a bad thing as I skipped lunch! The miso soup was great — flavoursome and plentiful, and definitely enough for two people to share. The vegetable dumplings were tasty but a little tough — perhaps this is a dish that doesn’t travel well? I loved the sauce they came with though, it was quite vinegary and sweet. The edamame were a little overpriced, I thought, and were soggy in places — again, probably caused by travelling trapped in a steamy plastic box — but still very tasty and nutritious. The only real let down in the meal was the tofu and vegetable ramen which was very bland. I tried adding some soy sauce for extra flavour but what with all the vegetable stock I would have had to pour in half the bottle! This dish could definitely benefit from a hint of chilli and limegrass. Would I order from Oishii again? I don’t think so. I don’t like having such a high minimum charge on a takeaway and though the miso and edamame were tasty I’d like to be able to get a really good main dish as well.

Slightly incongruous location(opposite the Telford Avenue bus depot) for such a nice little restaurant. They do mainly Japanese food(sushi, teriyaki, noodles, rice and so on) plus some Thai dishes. I don’t think I’ve ever tried their sushi, but the hot food is like Wagamama back in the good old days. Good lunchtime deals on offer. Friendly staff and cute neon signs. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area.
