hurry up and eat the most typical cockney food before this place gets closed down forever. f*ck gentrification. this place has been a family business for over 100 years and is being forced to close in a few weeks. get your pie, eel and mash, historical east london dish, before it is extinct and you can never witness it again. the owner is an old mod and parts of quadrophenia were actually filmed here. he’s got the newspaper clips on the wall.

This is a special place, staff are excellent and the eel & mash great value. Don’t let it disappear, it is under threat for redevelopment. Great place for lunch.

Can I have 6 stars ??? The original, the best, feels like going back in time when you enter which just adds to the appeal. Quality pie and mash, add a drowning of liqor and a cup of tea and it’s pretty much perfection.

Pie and mash at its greatest, cooks has been here for over 50 years now and when you eat here you know why, old school, plastic bucket seats, help yourself to spoons and forks(dont use a knife they will know yr new lol) best builders tea, service with a smile and a gossip… double pie and mash with gravy for under a fiver. The pies have been made and cook on site for ever… they do jellied eels and liquor for those with a cast iron tummy. These places are like stepping back in time and soon they will all be gone… so go now!
