If this place is a Memphis thing, I’m not that interested. Ribs are aiiite… a bit dry and tender enough. They have a selection of sauces on the table(BBQ, ketchup, chilli, and sophop?) to drench your meat and add another level of flavor. It’s an OK place if you’re around the area but not a place that I would actively seek out when I’m craving some BBQ. Coleslaw tasted like they added cream to it. The whiskey bloody mary was ok. They do have Beer Pong tables complete with red solo cups which could be a fun night out.

Day 2 for London and another venue near the Globe theater. Porky’s has a nice atmosphere evoking the USA with wall posters of blues artists and music from Hank Sr., Willie, and Mellencamp being piped in(loudly). The wait staff was courteous. At the beer pong table I conversed with 2 friendly young businessmen explaining how on Fridays they begin their weekend at 12:30 getting hammered. I partook of a local lager(Camden Hells) which was pretty good. Pulled pork croquettes were a nice variation on the ham Cuban croquettes I’m used to. The pulled pork sandwich wasn’t that great compared to the US. They put the cole slaw IN the sandwich not on the side, leaving it with a taste I can only describe as faintly fishy. There was no barbecue sauce at the table to alleviate this. Maybe the ribs are better but I didn’t have time to try them. The atmosphere and staff bring Porky’s up to barely a 3 star.

Good Memphis style BBQ. It’s no Pitt Cue in terms of cutting edge Chefy BBQ, but the flavours are there and the meat is well smoked. As is must try, we went for the ribs which were meaty and succulent. The staff make the place and my hats off to them. Will be back for some more 2 meats and no veg soon

Great ribs, reasonable prices and an impressive Whiskey menu. A good night made great with thanks to the very helpful & friendly Rosemary. Definitely recommended for a night out midweek.

Porky’s BBQ is a very chilled, relaxed informal atmosphere for those who like to go in groups and is a perfect location for the Globe Theatre. Its a smaller brother of Bodeans but with much lesser choice especially on the prok ribs. It is great for watching sport and a pint of beer however I did have a slightly bad experience with the staff after we got seated, they didnt’t recollect the prebooking I had with Open Table despite it being quiet at 6pm, and after ordering our food and drink(I ordered the Porky’s Pork Burger with chips and a pint of the State lager — first in the drinks menu). The décor is very American Bar style with lots of references to historical photos of John Lee Hooker with random American flags and maps along the wall. So, the bad experience, me and my friend had chat for an hour and after realising the time had passed, the waitress didn’t recollect the order we made and we had to refer to the manager to make the order on the computer clarifying that it should take 5 minutes to make the burgers. It took about 10 minutes and they apologised with a giving a free beer on the house but the damage was done when we had to slightly rush for the Shakespeare Globe. Onto the burger, it was short and sweet given the time to eat it, the pulled pork was really nice with the combination of the slices of bacon, not too greasy and not to dry, it was well made and it was very quick to serve out. The chips were good but nothing too special.

As an American from the South, I know my fair share of good BBQ and I was interested to see how Porky’s would compare. The drink list had a lot of cool choices and the menu had your classic pulled pork sandwiches and ribs and a good selection of sides like mac n’ cheese, sweet potato fries, hush puppies and croquettes. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and fries and it was very good and definitely better than I was expecting! I just with they had more BBQ sauce options. Next time I go I will try the ribs because they looked delicious. The staff was very friendly and I enjoyed chatting with them! Can’t wait to go back.

I was going to go to Bodean’s, which I have been to many times, but saw this on Unilocal and decided to try it. I regretted that decision. The ribs were big, but they were basically just fat. The outside had a good char on it, but the meat was not cooked as well as it could have been. Being the first American to rate the restaurant, this place might be good for cocktails and their attempt at a hipster atmosphere, but it is not good BBQ.

Porky’s BBQ is a well located eating spot, just off the South Bank but not packed out all the time because it is slightly off the beaten track and a large space, As the name would suggest it is a BBQ place. I would recommend the ribs, they are juicy with plenty of meat and covered in a BBQ sauce. There was some sort of meal deal on the menu so I also had some pulled pork too which I shared with Julia D. She had the mac n cheese which also got the seal of approval. I would say that Porky’s BBQ is like Bodeans but a little quieter and a little more relaxed. Overall I was impressed and would happily make another trip.

Food is good but they definitely need to hire some good web developers to fix their online ordering system. My order apparently went to the wrong shop yet I was asked what they were and the waiter had to jot them down. I doubt the order ever left the internet at all despite the confirmation email stating the order and pick up place! I had to wait for a good 20 minutes. To be fair they offered drinks on the house but it’s not nice to have to wait for your food(or anything) when you expect it to be ready as soon as you turn up. If you can’t live up to the SLA then do not offer online ordering system at all

Porky’s makes one thing very clear: Memphis style BBQ is the only BBQ worth eating. And their casual, delicious restaurant has me convinced that they’re right. Tennessee BBQ is big one thing: ribs. Slow cooked in a «pit» and done either wet or dry(though most would say dry is the Memphis way). At Porky’s it appears to be a combo of both, with the(massive) serving of ribs coated in a crispy, tasty dry rub while swimming in a thin, not-too-sweet and not-too-vinegary sauce. If you’re expecting the thick, sweet, dark brown, bib-required sauce of Texas, you’ll be disappointed. But only for a minute because seriously, this is SO much better. The menu is a meat lover’s dream, and you’ve got a choice of chicken wings, ribs, pulled pork, burgers and hot dogs. And you can get a burger piled with pulled pork piled on top because this is AMERCA(n), where all your dreams come true! Sides are perfect with a choice of mac and cheese, slaw and seasoned or sweet potato fries, and there is a choice of sauces on the table to suit your taste(vinegar, spicy, the above mentioned rib sauce). Well impressed, Porky’s!

We Did the rib challenge. It was incomprehensibly large. Tasted really nice for the first 5 minutes but after it became a real chore. Many tried and failed but we succeeded in the time required, we now are the proud owners of a porky’s BBQ t shirt. The price was very reasonable and the food was proper american inspired BBQ unlike what you would get at any normal establishment. It was high end food for Te price and a unique taste. Very Bön!

Pork Ribs. Yum. Okay, so I went into Porky’s with the expectation of it being a low brow establishment — somewhere a little quick and dirty which does greasy soul food without charging you the earth for it(and doesn’t mind you eating with your hands and generally causing a mess). And this is what Porky’s BBQ basically is — the ribs are excellent. Juicy, covered in a good BBQ sauce and piping hot. The chicken wings left something to be desired, but the chips were as good as could be expected. I wasn’t too enthralled by the drinks list — the beers on the menu were rather limited and the waiter staff didn’t seem to know what an ale was. But Porky’s is a good place to go for a nice environment and some decent quality pork ribs, without breaking the bank.

This BBQ joint just can’t wait to show everyone how AMERICAN it is. To be honest, i don’t care if a bbq joint anywhere in this world looks amazingly american, as long as the bbq is good. Luckily, the food was quite good, and the price very very reasonable. My boyfriend’s pulled pork was great although it could have used a bit of bbq sauce. My ribs were amazing and ginormously portioned and oh so delicious — I barely ate half of it. As a group of five, we also ordered a lot of starters and sides. Chili, hushpuppies, crabcake, coleslaw, creamed spinach, sweet potato fries — all equally yum. My favourite part? the drinks! My porky’s iced tea was insane! Earl Grey with ginger beer and cognac. It was amazing!!! I could eat here weekly!

Porky’s makes for a fun Friday night, just minutes away from the Borough High Street, and opposite the New Globe Walk entrance of the Globe theatre. High chair seating is aplenty in case the core restaurant area is not available. Last evening, that was not the case and we got a table for four. The waiters were friendly, funny even. The cocktails that we ordered were spicy! Very spicy! One of my co diners had to appease the spice with a portion of Mac and cheese. Delicious cocktails, but too much ice; very American. Gotta change that, Porky’s! Pork croquettes and BBQ wings for starters. Above average. Large ribs portion. Easily feeds two. You must have one hell of an appetite, or not have eaten all day. Goes well with the sweet potato fries. The potato fries are good, but not exquisite. The mac and cheese portion goes well, and is a decent sized portion. Overall, the food is not bad, portions are sizeable and the place is fun.
