buying shu Uemura stuff from their store in Covent Garden and not from a department store should be a more extensive elaborated experience the Asian looking man who manages the shop(I am assuming here based on the way he treats customers with such a bad attitude) — is so rude !! I mean it is make up after all he is selling and I am going to buy ] the only time he smiled at me and kind of warmed to me was when I purchased products worth £300– it was then when I deserved some kind of respect! very weird and better get my Shu Uemura things from Space NK across the street instead!!! no wonder it is always empty with no customers in it it is a shame since products are really good

I usually get my Shu fix at Heathrow Airport on the way to New Zealand but the Neal Street boutique could tempt even the most price conscious of shoppers to skip the duty free. A tiny little boutique just a stone’s throw from Mac, Shu Uemura’s Covent Garden store is as beautiful as its makeup, this cult Japanese brand’s rainbow coloured slap being unique in that its founder, the eponymous Shu, places the onus firmly on creating makeup that is good for, and works with, the skin. I particularly like Shu Uemura’s lipsticks which are virtually weightless and come in a variety of hues. Particularly noteworthy is the ‘Rouge Unlimited Red Collection’ featuring RD165, a true red lipstick which comes with a guarantee to suit every gal. Call ahead if you’ve your heart set on this shade though, it sells out faster than Take That tickets.

I come here for the false eyelashes(which no one does better than Shu), brighter than bright eyeshadows in a range of wonderful formulations and their excellent cleansing oil which makes double cleansing(for the truly devout skincare fellowship) a cinch. Mr Uemura, beauty god, has also recently launched a haircare range, which I am dying to try. The staff in this brightly lit emporium of colour are a delight — helpful and as pretty and preened as peacocks. Whether you’re after feathered lashes for a masked ball or just the right shade of shadow, they should sort you right out and have you skipping out with a smile and a bag full of delights!
