salmon ceviche with avocado salsa GBP7.00 — not a very exciting plate of food. braised squid with crisppy polenta GBP6.50 — very spanish influence. On the verge of a rubbery texture and those polenta cubes tasted like potatoes. grilled king prawns with artichoke salad GBP10.00 grilled swordfish burger with sauce vierge GBP11.50 — I tried this out of curiosity, an was pleasantly surprised. The swordfish steak was large and succulent, tender and moist, and the rest of the burger did not disappoint. The chips that were served with it were ok. create your own fish meal GBP12.50 — baked cod, salsa verde and sweet potato wedges — With my smart choice, I thought it was a winning combination but the cod was overcooked. Definitely! apple crumble with custard GBP5.00 — would have been pretty good except that the custard was full of green specks(a herb incident in the kitchen no doubt) and should not have been served, which it only was well over half an hour after everyone else had finished their meal.

Inverness Street where the restaurant is, used to be a fruit & veg market. Now the market is gone, it’s restaurant friendly. It was the very first time I’ve eaten anything on this street even though I’ve been living in Camden since 1989. It looked small from outside, but it was long & narrow inside and nicely decorated. There was a beautiful skylight near the kitchen. When I got there at 1:00 pm yesterday, the place was completely empty. Soon a group of three elderly diners arrived, followed by a group of 10 Italian tourists(led by a tour guide). Prawn & Avocado was refreshing. Ingredients were of very high quality and the portion was decent. Personally I would order it with the sauce by the side next time. The Italian waitress was very friendly, knowledgeable and quick to act, but as she was the only one serving, the service was very slow and our main course was just sitting at the counter for over 5 minutes. Later on, I told her that we were in a hurry and wanted our dessert as soon as possible, which she complied. As I am not keen on strong fish(everyone thinks it odd that a Japanese does not like fish/sashimi/sushi), I asked her for an advice. Cod had disappeared from the menu and was replaced by cheaper Pollock. She recommended Baked Hake, which turned out to be delightful. The fish was not fishy(you know what I mean…) and beautifully seasoned & cooked. Lemon & Basil New Potatoes arrived mashed; I was expecting them whole. They were tasty but the portion was small. I asked the waitress about their sauces, but nothing really took my fancy; Jerk Sauce was coconut based, Autumn Herb Veloute was cream based, etc. I ended up with Salsa Verdi which was OK, but nothing special. I would just ask for fresh lemon next time. Panna Cotta with Mixed Berry Compote was fine. Compote was a touch too jammy, though. The flavour could be improved by adding a touch of Cognac to the Panna Cotta and Compote. The chef demonstrated his competence throughout and it would be my favourite local restaurant if they would increase the portion of the main course; the side dish was way too small. If you are in a hurry, just tell the waitress. She will try her best.

This was an impulse visit after our sightseeing at Camden Market. Went with my family and we love fish and are always on the look out for good seafood restaurants. the bistros décor is contemporary, the staff were warm, very knowledgeable and the whole concept is airy and very user friendly. The value here is amazing: for £10 you choose your fish, how you want it cooked, a sauce and a side. The quality of the food is truly fine dining too. All were very good and were quickly dispatched. If you enjoy fish food this place is well worth a visit. Superb! — Please open a branch in New York City.

Its fish. Nice room. A little claustrophobic with the waitress serving station crowding the tables but nice enough. Music is great. Service is slow. Portions are small. It is good honest fish. Nothing is salted and everything needs salt badly — — - and sometimes a whole range of other condiments as well. So the food out of the kitchen is kind of tasteless. But you do get to listen to good music. If you MUST eat in Camden — this won’t kill you. Which is more than can be said for most of the other restaurants of Camden.

Simply fish is a very interesting idea. Basically you pick your fish, sauce, how its cooked and what you serve it with. Lots of combinations, i guess if you have no idea about food you could come up with something pretty crap. But I reckon you would be mostly ok. I loved the premise anyway! The food that come out the other end exceeded my expectations! loved it! They also had some craft beers which is most excellent! All in all a great place… my dish was Sea bass, fried, soy-ginger sauce with chips and crushed peas! YUM!

We tried Hache up the road first, but the squashed in tables and the poor service we saw there while waiting for a table made us leave. We didn’t have the patience or time for that. We went into Simply Fish instead and we were glad we did. My parter had sea-bass with a soy and garlic dressing and he raved about. I went for the burger and chips as I was still hankering for one after our short wait in Hache. It was OK, a bit bland by the end. The chips were lovely. Next time I will try the fish. We had a bottled pale ale each, which were also just OK. I wouldn’t go for it again if I saw that brand again, Meantime. But great to see craft beer on a menu. Service was pleasant enough, but they did forget the tap water we ordered along with our beers. PS Wifi is free(yay) and password is: simplyfishc

Had a simply delicious dinner on a Friday night. The waiters were attentive and helpful. Nice, cosy atmosphere once the restaurant filled up. If you like seafood and fish, then you cannot go wrong here. For starters, we chose the salt and pepper squid with ginger & honey dressing, and the sizzling chilli king prawns, and for the mains, pan fried sea bass, served with pak choy, ginger & garlic, steamed jasmine rice with Thai green curry sauce, and the battered cod & hand cut chips with crushed peas & tartar sauce. Ask for side plates, so you can share the dishes. Great to have the sauces separately in a little jug so you can add as much or as little as you like. It was all fresh and tasty. Will go again!

So good! Really cool spin on the traditional fish and chips. I had the chili squid and it was delicious. Very well presented, too. The owner sat and talked to us a while– what a wild man. He gave us discounts on our drinks and kept us laughing for quite a while. Definitely recommend.

Got takeaway from here once because its open late and I live across the street. Food was okay, not amazing but my impression was they catered more to the tourist crowd who stumbles onto inverness st. more than anything. Had the calamari and tempura cod with chips, which was a little greasy and generally just a bit meh.

Really good, fresh fish. You choose your fish, how it’s cooked, a sauce and two side dishes. So far everything I’ve had there has been excellent. The space is a little clean and sterile, but comfortable, the staff are nice. The oddities are cutlery and rice in a drawer in the table.

A superb trendy new fish restaurant that has recently opened in the heart of Camden that delivers a great variety without breaking the bank. Simply Fish allows you to pick the fish you want(whatever is fresh but staples like cod are there), then choose how you want it cooked(baked, tempura, pan fired etc) and then choose the sauce(everything from citrus butter to thai influenced curry sauces) so you can basically build your own menu. Included in the price(about £15) are two side dishes which also have fabulous variety from noodles and rice to plain old chips. My girlfriend and I both had sea bass cooked in citrus butter, she had noodles and salad while I chose new potatoes and salad. Both were very tasty and you got a decent portion of fish but it was a little over cooked for my taste — but to somebody else’s palette that could just mean nice and crispy. We also shared a starter of thai infused mussels which were divine. The staff were lovely and gave us an interesting amuse-bouche of whitebait and warm peanuts. Loved them both but not sure how they went together. The dining room is a little sterile but we were there early and virtually alone so maybe it livens up later in the evening. We would definitely return if visiting London again, especially as the menu allows you so many different flavour combinations and its no more expensive than going to a decent Chinese but way healthier and better.
