It’s my first time to find a fishbone in sushi. And I asked the waitress, she didn’t even show apologize, and said” as you know, it’s fish, it have none.” WHAT!!!

2 years after my first visit, I have decided to give it another try. While the experience is not vastly different from the first time, I would like to do a quick refresh on my review. On Monday night without booking, they were able to seat the 4 of us in 10 minutes. The service was quick and pleasant. We ordered sake, beer and green tea which all came quickly. We ordered picked veg and sashimi to start. Their sashimi has a super thick cut. Good value but felt a bit like they just threw a piece of fish onto the sushi board. I personally prefer a bit more«organized» cut. We then followed our order by sushi. Once again, super thick and huge piece of fish. Felt like 2 pieces of normal fish slapped onto one sushi here. The fish was very fresh and tasty. I found a few small pieces of bones. We ended our meal with tempura which was really great. The ice cream is average. For price vs value, it’s definitely a 4 star especially in London. If you solely consider quality and ambience, then maybe 3.

A surprisingly excellent japanese restaurant. Finest Toro I’ve had in ages, and best Miso Cod outside of Nobu. It’s authentically Japanese — reminding me of the much more expensive(and excellent) Kikuchi in Hanway St.

Sushi Waka is a family run restaurant and you can feel that all the dish are made by Japanese Chef. All the waitress are japanese and you can order in english or japanese, Yeah, it is pure japanese tradicional restaurant. I like it very much.

This is my first review from 2012 which was accidentally posted under the wrong restaurant name. We’ve been trying to visit this restaurant for a long time because it’s local. They open for lunch Mon-Fri 12:00 — 1:45 and when we arrived at 1:37, we were refused service. For the second visit one Monday, they were closed. We managed to have lunch at last the other day. The lunch menu is very limited and as we don’t eat raw fish, the choice is just Tempura, Teriyaki or Noodle. We tried Tempura which was very, very greasy, but the dip was the best we have tasted in London. Teriyaki sauce was none of those starchy nonsense you encounter in the UK and US, but a bit too sweet. They came with free green tea and very nice Miso Soup. The prices are low and the portion small. The other diners looked enjoying their Sushi, so if you like raw fish, you might have better deal than us.

This place is like a small family restaurant in Japan! It’s kitsch, has a simple(but yummy sounding) menu, and is isn’t too pricey(we spent £20 each including drinks and tip.) It wasn’t the best Japanese food I’ve had in London, but it seems like the kind of thing my Japanese host mum would make, so to me it was«ofukuro no aji»(a taste of home) rather than fine dining. * Sushi — The sushi set was pretty good, with huge slices of each fish. * The sesame spinach and the kinpira gobo were both pretty good(maybe a teeny bit small) * Tempura– not bad… I really liked the kaki-age, as you hardly ever get that outside of Japan. * The nasudengaku(aubergine with miso) was just looovely! When the bill came, they didn’t bother to itemise it, so you can’t check what you have ordered, which is a bit annoying, but other than that, I am a fan. I’ll upload some photos so you can all drool over it.

Very nice service and proper sushi, better than many of the less good stuff in the mass chains. For those who appreciate good sushi and service as the décor is a bit old. The toilets really are old but that will not stop me from going there.

This is like my secret japanese hiding spot in Camden, I just stumbled upon it one day and now I’m hooked. The sushi is pretty awesome and almost always fresh and everything else is good too. But what I like most is the restaurant itself– its refreshingly small and intimate and feels almost like you’re in someones house, albeit in japan.

This is a good Sushi place in Camden in London. The place is very authentic and priced right for the location. The owners are very intense and proud of their establishment. The most important thing — the food — was delicious! I loved the Sushi and the service. The owner is very engaged in what you eat just as they are in Japan. I love it. It was a little awkward sitting at the sushi bar by myself a few times because it was somewhat cramped, so I prefer a table if available. They were hesitant to give me a table when being alone so they could obviously save it for a larger crown. I don’t blame them. I have eaten here many times and will go back.

Awesome family run sushi place in Camden. Super authentic — definitely sit upstairs in the traditional japanese area. The food is divine and the staff are super friendly. plus, for good sushi, it really isn’t that expensive. Only complaint is that the rolls are a bit unimaginative.

After visiting Sushi Waka last Friday, my husband and I have renamed our monthly«date night». It is now called«Splurging-on-that-pretty-expensive-sushi-place-because-it’s-HELLA-delicious Night». I’ve been craving some real, fresh, authentic sushi lately and haven’t been having the best luck(hello Yo Sushi! boring.), but this place has changed my perception of London’s ability to do raw fish on rice. We showed up on a Friday night without a reservation, but luckily they were able to seat us. We ended up in the awesome little No Shoes Allowed attic area(they even give you slippers to wear if you have to go down to the toilet!), with seating on the bamboo-matted floor. I’ve never been to Japan so I can’t say with any authority that it feels«authentic,» but Sushi Waka feels a million charming miles away from the Westernised, chain-y places I’ve visited in the past. The sushi was pretty incredible, too. The nigiri was fresh and delicious, and though they were quite thinly-sliced, the pieces of fish were about twice as long/wide as a normal piece of nigiri, so they can be folded right over or wrapped around the rice. The unagi was WONDERFUL, tender and sweet without the sicky-sweet sauce that seems to come standard at other sushi places. The warm sake came quite a bit hotter than I’ve experienced before, but it stayed warm longer, so it served us well. A small warning for wasabi-haters: Every sushi item we ordered – nirigi and rolls – came with wasabi. I absolutely hate hate HATE horseradish and wasabi, so I let my husband gorge himself on our first round, and I ordered a second set of nigiri with no wasabi. If you don’t like the green stuff, save yourself the trouble and order it without. Our meal came to about £50, but included sake, one shared starter, more than enough sushi and tempura for the two of us, and service charge. The service was attentive and pleasant, and the sushi chef shouted us an enthusiastic several-sentence farewell across the restaurant as we departed. Here’s looking forward to next month’s date night!

I love, love, love Sushi Waka! This is such a gorgeous, tasty little sushi restaurant /café on Parkay in Camden. Sushi Waka makes a refreshing change from the big Sushi chains like Yo Sushi, for example. This place feels personal and friendly. You really feel like the guys here know what they are doing when it comes to sushi — you’re in good hands here. The food is fresh, the sushi is super tasty and the atmosphere is really relaxed and casual. I love Sushi Waka and almost always stop by when I’m in Camden on a night out.
