Again. located on the Southbank between Blackfriars Bridge and London Bridge. The Anchor features a traditional interior, with a low ceiling, exposed brickwork and wood panelling. It has a cosy ambience. Again, this pub is at it’s most popular in the summer due to the fact that it is located on the Thames overlooking St Pauls cathedral.

Nice little place. Were a little off with us about the food and where we could sit mind. Nice enough little pub though in good location when walking along embankment

Beautiful looking from the outside, lot of character from the outside and brilliant location — as many before me have written. Lots of space inside, but maze like in the ground floor and a nice out door patio to sit. Went after dark so the view was so so. From the fare perspective — while the bar tenders were friendly they didn’t have basic single malts we asked for, asked for a double gin and tonic but I believe I got vodka lemonade instead. I am was told by my friends that the house wine was nice. Food was below average — we ordered some veggie nachos but it was too salty. We asked for some ketchup for the chips which never came. No one cleared the tables on cue and there were broken chairs lying around which had the potential to cause serious bodily harm — with protruding nails. As many would agree — looks good from the outside, nice location that’s pretty much it. Tourists might enjoy but I will probably not visit again.

I went here for lunch with my sister and dad, and it was a great spot for classic pub food. We had the steak and ale pie, fish and chips, and veggie burger, and all were amazing! It was a Saturday afternoon so it was busy and hard to find a table, and crowded to order drinks and food at the bar, but we weren’t in a rush and really enjoyed the meal. It is a neat pub with lots of small rooms, and they also have a patio for the nice weather. This pub would be family friendly for those with children.

On the London river cruise they said the anchor was the oldest bar in London and thought we’d check it out. Had their famous fish and chips and while the portion size was quite large it was average. Sat on the outside patio and atmosphere and drinks were good so that made up for the average food.

Went in here before we saw our show at the Globe and had a Sunday roast while watching Wimbledon on the TV. The staff was a bit rude, especially when compared to the others at comparable locations… but seeing how this is in the«tourist» area, I’m assuming they get real tired real fast. The food was delicious. Chicken, veggies, gravy, and whatnot washed down with a lovely cider. The restrooms are annoyingly all the way down on the first floor.

Stopped in for lunch on our first day… very charming exterior, a bit touristy inside(the pinball machines don’t harken the 1800s so much ;o) However, we had a nice time here… food was tasty, especially the Big Ben Burger. Several nice cider selections for me… aka the drinking lightweight.

Hopelessly touristy but the offerings are steadily consistent. You can’t beat the location — sublimely planted on the south bank of the Thames, near the Shakespeare Globe, The Anchor’s façade embodies everything about charming London pubs: beautifully potted outdoor flowers, stone scaffolds, chalkboard signs, cask ales and MEATPIES. The steak and ale pie was surely frozen and then heated — –but it didn’t stop it from being pretty G-damn delicious. This isn’t a bad stop on a warm(or cold!) day during a stroll. It’s just not particularly remarkable. There isn’t a neighborhood feel and it’s chock a block with tourists. Still, when you need a drink, you need a drink.

It is an old style English pub on the south bank of the Thames. It is a nice place to eat during your walk on that bank and I liked the inside of the pub a lot there is something like 4 floors, and you will find one matching your mood, the higher you go the quieter it becomes basically. The burger was really nice, good quality products, however there was clearly something missing, like a special sauce or ingredient. Indeed the burgers are really basic, tomatoes, lettuce, onions and a steak(cheese for the cheese burger of course) but not much seasoning and you have to add ketchup or mayonnaise on your own when it is served. The fries are really good too! All in all a really nice venue and also quite affordable.

Torn again on reviewing an English pub. The building has so much charm, it’s old, beautiful, and cozy. They also have outdoor seating. BUT, once again, they have been commercialized and have the same menu of every pub I visited in London. It’s basically a chain restaurant, in a really nice building. The rumor is that Shakespeare used to drink here, so it would be nice if they had an old school traditional menu. But, it is a fun little bar, with an outdoor deck and patio. We had an appetized and the Pimm’s pitcher and we enjoyed our time. If they could fix the menu, I would definitely be back again!
