Wanting a classic pub lunch, I popped into the Angel Inn. The atmosphere was good and was very busy. The menu was quite extensive with lots of choice. We ordered salt and pepper squid, scotch egg, fish and chips and the ultimate burger with sweet potato fries. The food took quite a long time to come — probably as it was busy. There was also a whiff of dishwasher/cleaning fluid in the air as the kitchen directly opens up onto the seating area. When the food arrived I fell in love with the warm scotch egg, however, I wasn’t very keen on the fish and chips. I felt like it lacked crucial flavour and crispness. The pricing isn’t too bad for the heart of Highgate and I would probably go there again — I just wouldn’t order the fish and chips.

We went in for a traditional Sunday lunch. There was obviously a large party going on at the end of the pub and it clear straight aways that they took precedence as customers. On the menu the roast pork dinner was described lavishly so we ordered two. Problem #1 ‘was that the waitress didn’t speak very good English and we would have been served with two ‘nut roasts’ had I not have spotted her error. The dinner arrived quickly, as did problem #2, which was that the portion of pork was incredibly small and there was no crackling as promised on the menu. When I queried this I was told ‘we’ve run out of crackling’. Didn’t stop them selling it to us though and shamelessly taking our money without mentioning this fact to us. Problem #3 was that my daughter ordered sausage and mash which arrived a full 20 minutes after we had finished eating our watery lunches. After sitting and watching her eat it we asked for the bill; my wife told the manager that we believed we had been short-changed with our food. It was obviously, she said, that we had been served the leftovers of the roast pork. He brazenly agreed but we struggled to get him to give us money off the bill for a really, really disappointing experience. First and last time that I will ever go here. There are far better places around in Highgate — if you want to save yourself a truly terrible experience I advise you to steer clear of this place.

I used to adore this place but in the last year or so it has gone down hill drastically. Nice pub with a good atmosphere but very average food. Sunday roast is bland with underdone potatoes and over done meat. Shake as its a great location but lacking in food quality

I found the Angel Inn to be a mixture of ‘mehs’ and ‘pretty goods’. The interior, for example, is fantastic: warm, slightly ye olde, with leather chairs, wooden tables, lamps on the walls etc. A world from the tacky modern atmospheres too many new pubs can have. Ditto the beer, of which there was an impressive range, including the likes of Beaverbrook, Camden, London Fields, Meantime and too many others to list, alongside the usual Guiness etc. The service however was slow. There were plenty of punters but for most of the time, only one person behind the bar. Another person appeared, but didn’t appear to be able to understand English, even when I rephrased, broke down and repeated my question three times. And then the food was a bit meh. Fairly good value, but lukewarm and bizarrely miserly with the vegetables(the cheapest bit of a Sunday roast!). Overall thus? Just about A-OK. I’d definitely return for the beer(as long as there were sufficient servers behind the bar), but not so much the food.

Awesome local pub with two fireplaces! On a chilly evening few things beat sitting in a comfy leather chair next to a real fireplace sipping a pint. The staff are really cool, and the selection of both cask ales, and other brews are varied enough to please. I haven’t tried the food here yet so I can’t comment on that, but I will next time I go. Great little pub, highly recommended if for the ambiance alone.

After a wander around Highgate Cemetery, we stopped here for some food and drink. It had been recommended to me previously and did not disappoint. I’ve been to a few pubs in the Highgate area and this is by far my favorite. The beer selection really deserves a shout out! There are some standards on tap, but try one of the ones that don’t sound familiar. I had a pint of lager called Bragging Rights that was absolutely delicious. The bartender offered to let me sample a couple before ordering and seemed more than happy to do so. The staff all around was great. On a Saturday afternoon, the place was absolutely bustling. We had some food which was also really delicious. While we didn’t have a full breakfast, someone nearby did and that looked amazing, as well. I would definitely stop back in here next time I’m up that end of the hill.

This Pub has a wonderful charm about it on a cold wintery night in North London. Friendly engaging bar staff always make for a welcoming introduction. Beer was good, location was very interesting, cool 70s music, bad bad bad bad bad burger. Sack the chef that made it. Once the spoiler is gone, this place will be a great evening haunt.

Great pub in Highgate. The manager was fantastic, very attendant and even brought my partner’s daughter’s glass of coke over to the table for us! He also told me that they do not have a minimum charge to use your card at the bar so no having to buy a load of crisps to bump your spend up to a tenner. I have only eaten the whitebait which was really tasty but the food here looks great and I will hopefully get round to popping in for dinner very soon!

Great little pub. Went to visit as I heard about the Graham Chapman plaque. Stayed for some food and had a few drinks. Really nice food and a good range of drinks. Left as it was just starting to get busy. Will be back for a night time session. Seemed like it had a friendly crowd. Good atmosphere. Well worth a visit.

Good pub with a good selection of ales and beers. Right in the middle of Highgate Village. Interior is quite nice with some sofas and comfy chairs. For me it just lacks a bit the feel of being a traditional pub. I would give it more stars, but compared to other options(e.g. The Flask) it feels a bit like a chain pub if you know what I mean.

Was the best pub in highgate before they got rid of oliver. Now is turning more corporate, leaning away from the traditional pub. However they have fantasic food, staff, great selection of drinks and a great quiz nite on wednesdays. Still up there with the top boozers in the area and well worth a visit.

Much like an Angel this place is a lifesaver. There’s free WIFI, which is good if you are on business travel and you don’t want be eaten alive by roaming fees. Couches by the fire place allow for a cozy experience. Peroni on tap is just simply the icing on the cake. We liked it so much we had a return trip for brunch on Saturday. Theirs is a modern take on the traditional English breakfast, complete with black pudding(which I may have reconsidered eating if I new what was in it beforehand :)

I cycled here. Up a hill. I almost died. It was a big hill. I ate chips. I played card games. I then rolled all the way down that hill home… Weeeeeeeeeee This pub is awesome. In the area it’s one of the only places with a decent food menu on a Sunday and a great Bloody Mary. It’s not cheap but this whole area is quite expensive so it keeps up appearances and you’ll hear a muddle of American and posh British accents chatting away on the average weekend. Eating here I can see why they call it a «gastropub». It’s normal pub food, done properly. There is no microwave involved and lots of fresh veg with homemade sauces. It’s a winner for Sunday lunch.

Really nice place, chillaxed, yummy food especially the fish and chips and sticky toffe oudding. But just don’t go for the house red and it is rather rough

Virtually snowed in at the top of The Hill this weekend there was nothing else to do, but while away the afternoon at the pub. Out of the many great pubs to choose from in Highgate The Angel Inn is one of my favourites so we headed over. It’s a lovely, cosy place, with original 1930’s wood paneling and gorgeous open fires mixed with trendy couches and tasseled lampshades hanging over the bar. The atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly, and during the day you will find anyone from 20-somethings to families with babies and dogs all enjoying a drink. The music is usually good too(think Mumford and Sons and old classics such as Portishead) creating a nice, chilled out ambience. Whilst in the evening, it becomes more bar-like and large groups reserve tables for various celebrations. For me though, the food is the main attraction, and if you like pub food you will not be disappointed. Everything here is served up in hearty and delicious portions, from«Cumberland Sausages and Mash» to «Pork Belly, Sauteed Leeks and Bacon Mash», it’s all scrumptious and served promptly with a smile. What can I say, it appeals to both the Yorkshire and Greek in me. The bar men are very friendly and polite too so if you add them to the amazing food, great drinks(this is one of the only places I can find bottled raspberry beer) and a great venue, it certainly deserves the title of a fantastic local. Top Tip: The Sunday Roast is to die for.

Okay, I’ll go first, thanks. Honestly we were only here for a quick heart warmer beverage before my mates wedding down the street at the Catholic Church. quality ales and it was quite busy on a saturday for lunch time. The food looked really really good and so I would have loved to have had a nibble, but that wasn’t in the cards. I loved the feeling and atmosphere in here and especially the fireplace which was throwing some decent heat into the place.

In the heart of Highgate Village this is half bar half pub. Friendly staff who make an effort to make you feel comfortable. And the best bit? Minty from Eastender’s fave haunt.
