For somewhere I’ve been to so often(and will do countless times more) it’s a shame I can’t give it more than 3 stars, but it just barely deserves that. A gritty South-East London boozer but that has not much going for it at all. Picture England flags and bad tattoos. This pub puts us up in during the spring and summer months once we’ved finished playing touch rugby in Southwark Park just over the road. So the location can’t be beaten. In return for our repeat business every week, and countless other teams too, they provide us with a team meal… which is a basket of chips, onion rings and mini sausages. They don’t put the kitchen towel at the bottom of the basket for nothing… it’s practically vaporised by the grease after 30 seconds. They have some large screens for watching sport — there is often Weds night football games on — but you’ll be lucky if you’re allowed anywhere near them when crowded out by locals who would really rather you went elsewhere. The redeeming feature? The large beer garden out back. In the summer it’s perfect. In fact, if it was a nice day and I was in the area I might consider coming here for non rugby business. Maybe. Actually, I doubt it.
