The Eagle was formally called the Robert Browning. It changed it’s name a couple of years ago to The Eagle. I don’t know why, as nothing about the place changed. Part of the Samuel Smith brewery chain, This pub is situated one the main dining strip of Clifton Road, which is really the heart of the Maida Vale community. If you use Samuel Smith pubs, you would knoe what to expect. They only stock their own drinks including their beers, spirits and mixers. The interior of this pub has not changed for years. It has a dark wood bar, which looks quite nice, and old fashioned pub furniture for the patrons. It has a local pub feel to it, and you feel as though the drinkers that come here, have done so for years. They used to have a Thai restaurant upstairs(Ben’s Thai), which they inherited from the nearby Warrington Hotel. Ben’s Thai had to find a new home when Gordon Ramsey took over ownership of the Warrington. They have a few bench tables outside at the front of the pub, and a small enclosed beer garden at the pubs rear. It can be quite a sun trap, when the UK weather decides to bless London with a sunny day. I’ve been here many times over the years. It’s an inexpensive drinking option, and I usually come here when I’ve been, or going somewhere else. I don’t think I’ve ever spend a session drinking here.
