It is what it is. Lots of guys that like to drink a lot. local guys that is. Fun place. Loud place. Fun place. Don’t expect to be waited on hand and foot. It’s a local pub. If you want to do something other than slam a few pints, go elsewhere.

Been here a few times already and I really like it. Why? It’s not crowded with posers or after office groups. This is a local pub full of local people, from the neighborhood, workers looking for a paint before going home or a group of guys post football match. People are nice and when they find out I am from Argentina, we always get in friendly and funny conversations about my country or football or whatever. They don’t offer a wide variety of beers, but it’s more than enough. A plus, it’s cheaper than the other pubs in the area, specially if you walk towards Canary Wharf. A minus, if you are to spend less than 10 pounds you have to pay in cash.

The George is a well-preserved traditional East End pub on the Isle of Dogs with a large front bar and smaller bar at the back. The crowd are mostly locals and a few Canary Wharf workers — but you don’t have to be a ‘face’ to drink here. Seems expensive for the area(£4 for Kronenbourg). Several screens for the football.

This is a local pub, for locals. If you have ever seen League of Gentleman-Welcome to Royston Vasey, you will understand what the question, ‘Are you local?’ means when you walk into The George. This is a charming looking pub opposite Crossharbour DLR station, making it ideal for ‘locals’ and local workers to stop in. Did you notice the word ‘local’ again? Several beers on tap but the one that tends to get the workout is Fosters… from the locals, who like to drink… a lot, in their local. There’s a tv lurking in the smaller pub area and they do serve food although I didn’t have any in fact, I drank one glass of water. There’s plenty of space in the conservatory and garden; seriously, I cannot mark down on the look or space of The George but I am not ‘a local’. I cannot say why I was here but I can say, I will not be returning.

The George is a decent place to have a few pints with your buddies. I ate here once and wasn’t particularly impressed, but I wasn’t completed turned off either. Basically, it’s a good comfy place to get drunk and talk to the locals(all of which were very friendly).

I would like to say how dissapointed i am at the way me and my party was treated on Friday 15 July 2011, we had booked the conservatory at half 6 for 7 people but when we got there was already a function going on, we were not told prior to coming what this was happening, we were told by the landlord that the party was nearly done but that wasnt the case. So we then(not the landlord) found a table at the front of the pub, we got some drinks and was chatting and deciding what to have on the menu bearing in mind we were there at half six at no time did the landlord bother to tell us that the kitchen closes at 7:30 so when we went to order the kitchen was closed. When we complained to the landlord at the treatment but he wasnt interested and walked away mid complaint. Due to the rudeness and unprofessional behaviour of the landlord I will not be going there nor will i recommend the George to any of my friends of colleagues, its a shame really because it looks like a nice pub.

It’s rare that you have a truly gobsmackingly awful experience, but when it happens… what ya gonna do? Smite them with the powerful hand of Unilocal! Heading here with some work colleagues, I’m not sure what I expected. The only other bar I’ve been to called The George is an infamous Dublin gay hotspot. This is not the same. Like a pub out of Eastenders, this place is full of lairy locals and institutionalised bar staff. We ordered food(very slowly) and went to sit in the conservatory. A big glass walled room with metal garden furniture and local ‘flavour’ knick-knacks. You are given a ticket stub, like a raffle, and the blowsy waitresses stand at the door with plates of food and roar out your ticket number. Classy. When my chips and a buttered roll arrived, she dropped the roll and it landed in my colleague’s lap. Sheepishly he handed it back to her. She put it back on the plate and handed it to me. !!! Eh, what? I know it’s not a five star hotel, but are you kidding me? I wanted a new roll, but was afraid to ask lest she backslap me and throw me out. Also one of our group ordered the Lamb Burger, it arrived in a pita pocket. How strange. Back in the office we discussed that it wasn’t quite a contender for Britain’s Roughest Pubs but then we weren’t there after 6, so not going to rule it out.

I have lived next to the George for two years. It used to be a rather shabby local that had a hardcore crowd of usuals that didn’t tend to make a newcomer feel too welcome. It has recently changed owners and they have put a lot of work into upgrading it. It has a nice conservatory/beer garden area for that rare sunny day and generally a table outside. They have installed a couple flat screen TVs in the pub and the football matches seem to draw a crowd. There is a food menu that looks quite nice, but I’ve never had it as the hours of operation seem to be just during the week from lunch till early evening. They have four real ales on tap and various lagers, ciders and Guinness. On Saturday nights they have live music. Unless you like hearing ‘Is this the way to Amarillo’ and ‘American Pie’ sung at an excessive volume, and not quite on key, I’d avoid it. It really is far too loud for a pub that size and impossible to escape. It is definitely a local and if you go there twice, you will more than likely see the same faces. Although many of them are of the heavy drinking type, the crowd is more welcoming than it used to be and it really is a nice pub.
