I love this place, the downstairs vibe and the rooftop bar. Even has cinema events up there during summer. I don’t like the stairs however. It seems like it takes forever to walk it but this hidden away place down the darker end of curtain road is a great place on weekends. All in all I love the music and though the bar can be hard to get served at peak times it’s a really fun place.

First thought: So cozy! In the winter, they make an effort to provide nice respite from the cold. I really loved it. The drink menu was a bit limited, but I’m sure they would have accommodated special requests, within reason. Staff was friendly enough.

Both times we have come here to enjoy the wigwam on the roof. The 2014 – 2015 wigwam had better food than the 2015– 2016 wigwam, but both are fun. Decent winter warmer cocktails, fun atmosphere, an happy to switch to beer once a couple cocktails have been consumed. However we wary of the cover charge later in the day, as it is not worth it unless you plan to stay around and dance in the grungy basement.

You know what — I’ve been coming to this bar for about 5 years but pretty much always forget it’s there, the plan is always to go deeper into Shoreditch but when walking past it’s hard to resist, even though the beer selection is complete rubbish and the décor is wipe down club night… What I like is that in this definition of hipster bar, there’s always interesting things going on which are super cool. The rooftop bar on this occasion was transformed into a giant wigwam(I’ve been to summer BBQ’s and caribbean parties up here…) with fires, hot cocktail bars and a treehouse — yep, we’re in East London here people! Taking 12 of my friends and colleagues here, they all had a great time and throw in ‘Ukulele Monday’(yep this is a thing, turn up play mass uku’s with friends) and a pretty much disco ping pong table where you can’t see where the ball is going and there is nowhere better to randomly start off the week.

Very hipster, but creative. We went for the roof wigwam, which they had done a fantastic job on, I really felt like I was in a fairy tale! The drinks were also delicious, and the food was in very large quantities but of average quality. Though we didn’t spend much time downstairs, it seems to be an interesting vibe — kind of strange and a little bit punk/hipster, but the staff was really nice and helpful.

Das dritte mal in London und schon das zweite mal hier gewesen. Warum?

What a special place! We were dropping by quite spontaneously and I was amazed by the size and decoration of the place, as well as the many people hanging out here on a monday night! There were some people playing their ukulele, singing, playing table tennis, sitting on the rooftop by the fire, enjoying their drinks. Such a nice atmosphere. I definitely recommend coming here!

Wigwam… ukulele…ping pong… a Monday night at queen of Hoxton. This is a place that has never been afraid of changing things up and last night shows that perfectly. If you are willing to take the many flights of stairs to the roof you find yourself inside a smokey wigwam complete with wood and fairly lights. There are seats inside the wig wam but we decided to sit outside around the fire on toadstools and logs… as you do! The festival vibe of the upstairs was great but as the roof was closing we decided to have another drink in he downstairs bar area. This turned into singing/dancing to a ukulele band and an impromptu ping pong tournament. Monday just had an upgrade… thanks QOH!

I haven’t been here in a while, but the promise of a gingerbread cocktail and marshmallows are a hook even before the pull of Christmas. Not as «fairy tale» like as promised(we are children of Disney of course), but a lovely comfy evening amongst the smell of log fire. The cocktails were lovely, as was the three meat bun(less acclaim for the schnitzel, underwhelming), and the place was relaxing. I do realise it was a Tuesday, but we were unexpectedly involved in a daring game of drawing which resulted in free drinks so how could you complain. Recommend !

Of course this place is amazing on a Saturday night but i came here on a sunny afternoon on a Sunday and was very disappointed. Although it does look nice, there was no atmosphere at all and all you could hear was the workers next door who were EXTREMELY loud with their power tools. The atmosphere was lacking that much that my friend even asked the bar staff if they could play some kind of music even quietly to try and drown out the power tool noise but they weren’t allowed to because of the apartments, not sure why the construction workers were allowed to though. Anyway we drank our drinks as quickly as possible and headed back to Box Park where it was lively and bustling with people.

In the Summer months, QoH is host to the much loved Rooftop Cinema screenings, which I love and have enjoyed on the odd sunny day we’ve had here in London. But in the Winter months this great bar is still busy. The bar always has really great events going on through out the month, with opportunities to catch new live acts, dance the night away to awesome music or take part in screen printing classes. There’s definitely something for everyone! The Cuban Milkshakes are ones not to miss at the rooftop bar and their iced coffee cocktails are pretty killer too, just make sure you bring a pal who you can rely on to try the whole menu — there’s such a great selection that it’s difficult to stop at just one drink!

Came here on a Thursday, just before all the city folk finished work so there weren’t many people there at all. As I already needed the toilet when I walked in, that’s the first place I went. Got to say, the cleanest toilets I’ve seen in a bar so well done Queen of Hoxton. The Queen Of Hoxton is literally just around the corner to Liverpool Street Station. Firstly, I get that to get to the rooftop terrace you’ll need to climb a couple flights of stairs but there were literally so many stairs! Can they not install an elevator or something?! The rooftop terrace was a lot smaller than I thought it would be, there’s seating up there and a small bar of course. I was impressed with the little food shack they have next to the bar. Unfortunately I didn’t give the food a try but it smelled divine. Drinks here are reasonably priced for London. FYI ladies, there seemed to be a fair few gorgeous men admire. Lastly, I feel like this place has so much potential to be better, the décor on the inside could do with jazzing up a bit to give it more atmosphere. We also got served at the bar by some lady who looked like she’d never smiled a day in her life.

Good locash for all your hipster needs, including tons of male ferormones, beards and deeply unfresh armpits, and overall mediocre drinks and mediocre food — BUT outstanding rooftop that gives you the ability of smoke and drink yourself silly while shamelessly flirting with River, the owner of the aforementioned beard and pits, who is totes looking your way wondering if the tight slutty pencil skirt you’re sporting will be coming off while watching Sleepless in Seattle on the outdoor screens. Book the movies by the way — or risk forever being banished.

Friday, beautiful sunshine, finished work at 5 and all my friends and I wanted to do was drink in the sun! We arrived at Queen of Hoxton just before six and went straight to the roof top bar. It was already rammed of course and no where to sit but there was some space to stand. Queued forever to order some of the fab sounding cocktails(frozen daiquiris and coffee cocktails) however their blenders were broken — so disappointing! Instead we ordered a jug of pimms which can’t be sniffed at and is always enjoyable on a sunny day however could have gone anywhere for it! Some more friends arrived about 7 but there was such a queue for the upstairs that we went downstairs to meet them. After the sunshine it was a bit dark and gloomy so we had another drink and then made off! All the potential however a let down on cocktails, didn’t get to try their cubanos and inside is a bit average! Will be back on another sunny day to relax in the roof top garden!

I’ve only been to the Queen of Hoxton during warm days out on their rooftop gardens, so no late nights in the bar below or any of their wild and weird activities(when we were going up last time, they were preparing for their weekly Ukulele masterclass on Monday’s). Nope, only the rooftop. And the rooftop is nice. It’s a climb to get there, about five flights up. When you think you’re done climbing, keep climbing. But when you get up there, you get a rooftop garden that feels like it’s on the street, complete with street art and the front half of a dissected car that’s just hanging out(how they got it up there, I’ll never know.) The bar is semi-stocked(you want downstairs for all the drink options) but makes a mean summer drink, everything from frozen daiquiris to alcoholic milkshakes. Just be warned, the staff can be slow and the queues can be long. Also, the last time we were there, they were out of almost everything, which is sad. No bad should ever run out of their drinks, especially after climbing five stories to come get it. Boo. They also do a nice selection of Cuban inspired foods. We had the shredded beef, which was delicious and flavourful, and the fried chicken, which was less fried than it was just kind of there and very very dry. Go for the beef. They come with slaw and rice and it is a filling meal for about £7. The space itself is large-ish and when it’s warm and you’re looking for a place to sit and relax, this is the place to be.

The rooftop is spectacular. I have no complaints about the roof, and it really is the main selling point for the Queen of Hoxton. The bar’s biggest problems are that use of the roof is limited due to noise ordinances and liability issues. For example, if it’s been raining they don’t open the rooftop. I learned this the hard way the other night, which sucked because by the time we realized the roof was closed we had already paid £5 each just to get in. Wig Wam Bam is a blast in the wintertime. Can you think of anything better than sitting in a warm tent that smells like roasting meat and pine wood, with a cup of warm mulled wine and roasted marshmallows? I can’t. I really can’t. HOWEVER — as a few other reviewers have said, the rooftop bar is the best part of the Queen of Hoxton by a considerable margin. The ground floor bar is okay. It’s loud, it’s sticky, but it’s manageable and it can be fun, which makes it just like any other bar in Shoreditch. The basement though. They close the roof at 10PM sharp every night, at which point they herd everybody downstairs. They start directing people into the basement when the ground floor reaches capacity. The only way I can describe the basement is that it’s a dive club. It’s seedy, smelly, sweaty, and for some reason there are these humongous booths that take up half of the available standing space, and the people who supposedly booked them never seem to actually be using them. Really odd. Basically… go here, check out the roof, DEFINITELY check out Wig Wam Bam, but as soon as the clock strikes 10, get outta there.

Another sunny day, another rooftop bar… The Queen of Hoxton is actually one of the more well known rooftop bars in London, and it’s not really in Hoxton, it’s really closer to Liverpool Street(big misnomer). When I went on a Sunday afternoon, the indoors area was completely deserted and there wasn’t even someone serving at the bar there so there’s no way to avoid the bar queue on the rooftop. But meanwhile, up there, all the seats and tables were taken and people were sitting on nearly every inch of the fake grass lawn, and there was about a 15 person queue for the bar at all times. I got a pitcher of Pimm’s(20 pounds, about average among the prices I’ve seen), and they were also serving pear cider or Asahi on tap… Asahi was quite odd because no one was ordering it on a hot sunny day, and the pear cider was the only other decent option they had… why would you have not have an apple cider at least? Later on, we got some food off the barbecue, which was 7.50 for a main with a few sides(they have about 5 choices for the main, we got the chicken skewers, you get 2 of them). I thought that was quite good value for what it was. I’ve never been there at night or in the winter, but I can definitely tell you that on a sunny day in London, the rooftop will be packed!

Can I have two separate review for QoH? Because I honestly fell in love with the roof terrace with the wigwam, and the barbeque and the hot alcohol punches.(The mulled cider was yummy!) Hot Drinks, Fairy Lights and heaters looking over a crisp chilly London? There are times like these when I don’t want winter to end. Downstairs was an another story, which I would hate to give even a star to. First piece of advice: when the wigwam closes, LEAVE, seriously, you won’t miss anything, because this is when it starts to get hipster scummy. I had a really bad experience with some people getting all in my face, and then getting her boyfriend involved. I’m 4ft11, they’re tall people, and I just felt i was being picked on. And that put a spoil on my night. Not to say all clientele were bad, I met some lovely people but it was just too rammed in there, apparently, it’s not so much a hipster secret anymore(it’s on the corner away from any other bars). It’s more student-y these days and I don’t think I can take young and entitled hipster scum who think they can bully their way round a bar with sticky floors and mediocre cocktails. I just can’t do it.
