Great hospitality and amazing décor. Just loved this place. Recommended if you’re out for a chilled night with friends. Wednesday’s are typically their best night and weekends can tend to be a bit packed. Cocktails are fab and you’ll be trying out everything on the menu before you know it!

So, we had some time to kill in Victoria Station before our train to Gatwick Airport… and the restaurant selection there is pretty sparse. So, I checked Unilocal for a spot to go to for lunch… up popped the Shakespeare. Perfect! Just across the street on the corner. My son and I both ordered fish n chips… service was good, food even better… pricing was good, and much cheaper than sports pub in the station. Lots of travelers were sitting in a lounge area that looked comfortable… noted for the next time I’m in town. Suggest you check it out if you are in the area.

I used to go to this pub many years ago, 1993 – 94. I remember great times being had and great ales being served.

I was lucky enough to go here on a glorious sunny day in London. I was also lucky enough to get some seating outside and enjoy a nice cool beer. The bar staff were very friendly and happy to advise when it came to the selection of beers and ales. It feels like a real local spot as everyone seemed to know everyone which really gave it a great feel and the locals were all very eclectic in their ages and styles etc. Inside is your usual English style pub except wooden floors and pretty big interior with a large ceiling. Railings outside to chain your bike.

Lovely little neighbourhood pub wth good ales, nice poeple and easy going staff. The pizzas next door still good, and(when there isn’t sport on) it has the world ‘s best little jukebox! There is a little beergarden open sometimes, has lovely old décor. It’s just cute and isn’t overun with hipsters(although you may need to watch out for the odd child on a Sunday afternoon). After 7pm kids are out :)

Pretty standard old man’s pub. Not a lot of space and most people there seem to be local regulars, but they welcome strangers as well! No food, but you can order a pizza from La Barca next door and bring it into the pub to eat.

Great pub. Great old pub that feels like an old pub(rather than a new pub desparately trying to convince you that’s not). No kitchen so no gastro pubbers getting in the way of the important drinking. Jukebox has a changing but consistently brilliant selection of music on it.

Great old boozer! Go if you are in this area. The place is original… in décor/furniture and fellow local punters in there. A few relics that look like they’ve been drinking the same drink at the same time of day for a very long time! Good mix of cider, ales and lagers on tap. Wine list pretty standard. Bonus of this pub is the pizza shop next door — you can order a pizza and they’ll bring it over for you to have in the pub! The pizzas are yum yum yum and make this pub even more of a winner.

The review of the 27th sept 2007 could have been written yesterday as it remains true. The bar snacks are still as diverse and tasty as ever, the selection of beers is excellent and the monday quiz is still going strong. What’s more the jukebox always has an excellent selection of music and come closing nobody comes round to rush you out of the door with your pint. Dog, child and cyclist friendly too… oh and they do sports. My(other) favourite pub. =)

A good local pub in a back street of Stokey. Friendly service, reasonable drinks, no pretension. Plus you can bring in pizza from a decent pizza joint next door. I was there on a Friday night and it was busy, but not annoyingly so. Recommended.

Yes I’m going back there and yes I am whacking a stonking 5 stars on this pub’s door. No they don’t serve food but yes you can bring the pizza in from next door and have it in the warm. Yes they do have a large selection of organic nibbles and drinks and yes the staff are super duper friendly. I have now claimed this pub as my local. It’s mine, all mine!

It’s a nice big boozer, this one. We had a really lazy afternoon there one weekend and two chaps just whipped out a guitar and a ukelele and serenaded customers. Have only really walked by there on week days and it usually seems to be happily busy. There are a few tables out the front and a small, high-walled garden space at the back.

Decent enough pub that regularly has lock ins and quiz nights. Beer of choice is Staropramen. Not that big once you’re inside, kind of opposite to the tardis, but safe. Attracts a middle class crowd.

I go to The Shakespeare on Monday nights for their pub quiz. I’m not much of a pub quiz type, but this one is somewhat different. Teamed up with my friends Julie and Philip and their extended, erudite social circle, even our clearly superior intellects are no match for many of these questions. I’m usually too drunk by the end, though, to care too much about losing. Pride dies fast in the bottom of a pint glass. The pub itself is totally straightforward; well-lit, well-stocked, and well-loved by its locals, it’s a delightfully earnest antidote to Islington to the west and Dalston to the east. I’m not sure I’d ride my bike up there on any other night of the week, though.

The Shakespeare says what it does on the tin. It’s a local pub. It’s character is dictated by the nature of the locals who patronise it. It’s a mixed bag of both Guardian and red top readers, perhaps the Guardianistas predominate, the demographic that is forever Stoke Newington. A variety of beers that always seem to be in good condition, friendly staff, simple interior. Distinctive double sided bar down the centre of the pub. There’s a small courtyard garden out back for the summer, where you can engage in braying conversations to annoy the occupants of the flats and houses that crowd around this corner pub.

This is a great local pub that has everything you would like on offer, including some great Belgian beer on drought. There is a large courtyard at the back, which is really lovely to spend time at in the summer. The smokers tend to take it over in the chilly months of winter. This is a rare pub to find in the inner alleys of Stoke Newington, but that is half its charm! There are some original fixtures from olden times, and some old geezers who like they’ve been here just as long. Its a charming local pub, and great to have a drink at in the evening.

I love this place. Great venue to watch the early kick offs. They’ve got all the papers(I know it’s a small touch but I like it), serve a good pint of honey dew and are always friendly and polite.

lovely pub just around the corner from where i live, and that’s kind of how it feels too, like your local. although there’s quite a scary mural on the wall behind the bar, the staff are friendly and there are also some nice tables with seats outside. A good selection of beers and the occasional pop quiz make for a pretty brilliant local all around. see you there!

A proper pub as in before gastro-pubs and chains. Here you can get pickled eggs, cockles and mussels. They serve great lager(litovel) and real ales and if you are hungry you can buy a pizza next door and bring it through. This was, however, stopped for a while but is allowed again. Dogs are welcome, they show sky-sport and the Monday night quiz is very popular. The clientele is a mix of young and old locals.
