Love a couple of good Taccos. Decent flavours but certainly can’t say the same for the portion. But if you do want Mexican food, here’s not a bad option for you! Love the food and setting. Price is reasonable(to central London standard), and food is nice. I had 2 starter Taccos and some chicken wings and it cost me about £17. Pricy for what you are getting(given and then went sushi after cause it was small) but at least it tasted decent. I do recommend the Pork Cheeks taco, it was quite nice. Unfortunately I can’t say the same for the wings which was a big plain; and the cod taco which smelled a bit interesting. I guess for that price. I just expected a little more!

Wahaca essentially enjoys a near monopoly on sit-down Mexican food in Central London, as, tbh, I don’t think a couple of benches in front of the queue for a burrito counter — as is the case elsewhere– really count. Brutally efficient service(all good so far), but it always seems to me there’s a huge over-reliance on tortilla chips here. Burritos are quite good, and reasonably priced, but smaller than many.

I went here for my birthday, a treat from my boyfriend. We made a day of it, coming up to London to see St Paul’s & Westminster Abbey. After St Paul’s we went to this location of Wahaca and it was pretty good, for the most part. I liked the fact that the dishes were essential served tapas style, so it was possible to order multiple dishes and share within a group. All small & easily shared & consumed. I was not overly impressed with the cactus taco. I really liked the pork taco I had and wish I had more. The chicken tinga burrito was to die for! I absolutely loved it and still think about it, 3 months on. I wouldn’t recommend Wahaca as a place for developing great romance. It’s more of a place to share food with a group of friends, after partying it up at a local club/disco and needing to balance out the excess alcohol swimming about in one’s veins.

Intresting and refreshing… Visited in a group of 6, we were promptly received and seated. Drinks followed swiftly. The food choices was interesting and tasted delicious. The layout of the restaurant is clean and neat. As it is very open it is not a romantic venue ;-) but rather social. I enjoy visiting and would do so again!

Always think wahaca is good for sharing lots of different plates Not great value for money but doesn’t break the bank Always very tasty, good flavours Sweet potato fries are the best Also had a burrito last time that although hard to share was delicious, very filling and good value for six quid Wouldn’t recommend tostadas Fried plantain and peanut butter ice cream to finish was amazing

My sister, her friend and I decided to stop by here for dinner on a Saturday night, it also happened to be Dia de los Muertos, so Wahaca was a perfect choice. This location is in a sort of shopping mall, but it was pretty easy to find if you follow the signs. The restaurant wasn’t too busy, but we were greeted & sat down right away by Jose’ and asked about drinks. I decided to go with the Pomegranate Mezcalita special(very very good) and everyone else had margaritas. The menu is pretty extensive, but I chose to go with the enchiladas suizas. They have the usual Mexican fare, though, too; burritos, tacos, taquitos, tostadas, etc. Once everyone ordered dinner, I got to admiring the location; the front is all glass windows and had colorful Day of the Dead decals all over the place that was nice. There was also a makeup artist near the entrance that was doing Day of the Dead skull face paintings, it was very festive. At last our food arrived and I was so glad I had gone with the enchiladas. The sauce was really good, the rice & beans were good, it was a pretty filling meal. My sister’s friend had got taquitos and one was a sweet potato one which we tried and it was amazing. My sister had got a steak burrito I believe, but the steak was bland from her account. When Jose’ came back around to check on us, he saw my sister hadn’t eaten the steak and she told him how it wasn’t very flavorful. He left, then came back and said the manager wanted to comp her meal and also if we wanted a dessert gratis, we could order one. Dessert was a no-brainer, we ordered the churros with both the chocolate & caramel sauces and it was so yum. The caramel was the winning sauce, though. Our bill wasn’t too bad and the service was pretty attentive too, even though Jose’ did leave for somewhat longer periods of time and we had no idea where he ran off to, haha. Overall, this was a great dinner on a very festive night in London that I was happy to share with my sister and her friend. I’d stop by again when visiting for sure.

I’m always excited at the prospect of trying Mexican food in the UK — it’s sort of a fantastic cultural experience in itself, to see how they interpret it. Wahaca is a London chain with maybe a dozen restaurants, and this one is on the first floor(not ground floor) of One New Change shopping centre near St. Paul’s. It is casual and colorful, with a bit of a cantina vibe about it. I haven’t had a margarita since I moved over here, so I ordered the passion fruit margarita with great glee(£6.25). It was delicious, and a lovely fruity cocktail. Still, it is a far cry from the goblet-sized margaritas you get at an American Mexican restaurant(and loads more expensive, with the exchange rate!) Really it’s better tasting than a typical margarita, but it was smaller and much more classy. Ah, to find a place that offered margaritas by the pitcher! Still, this is a great cocktail, you should order it. Everybody got a few small plates, about 3 each I think seemed to do the trick. I had the plantain tacos, the butternut squash/gruyère/thyme empanadas, and a side of sweet potatoes. My food was all actually pretty good! The plantains were yummy and sweet, sprinkled with feta and drizzled with chipotle sauce. I also tasted my boyfriend’s grilled British steak tacos which he loved, and I think they were his favorite thing he ordered. The empanadas were hot and crispy(sort of like… a South American samosa, if you’ve never had one) and the ingredients inside were creamy, but could’ve been a bit more abundant! I was laughed at a bit for getting a side of sweet potatoes, as was my boyfriend for getting a side of broccoli with chili oil and lime. Indeed, the greens he ordered weren’t worth the stomach space, and could easily be replicated at home. I loved my sweet potatoes, however, and I think they’re worth ordering to share with someone else. They were crispy and had a bit of a smoky sauce drizzled over. We also shared guacamole and chips — nice to see something more closely resembling tortilla chips and not Doritos, although they still weren’t perfect. The guacamole was very good and made with lovely, buttery avocados. The food all comes out as random times, so don’t wait until everyone is served before digging in. It makes the place feel a bit disjointed service-wise, but that’s okay. It’s a very busy, noisy place but has a very fun vibe. You can probably fill up on food for £15, so not a bad deal overall! It isn’t anything like the Mexican food I’ve had before, and I wasn’t impressed with a few things I tried off other people’s plates(like the chicken taquito) but it’s fun, and worth a return visit I think! I don’t know if you can do much better for Mexican food in the UK… though I say, always aim higher!

I feel about Wahaca the way I feel about most Mexican places in London — meh. There’s nothing bad about it, but it’s missing the tasty kick you expect from Mexican food — and it can’t be replaced by hot sauce. I had tortilla chips with guacamole, salsa and frijoles. All of which were just OK. None of our group were particularly impressed by the food, but the staff and service were great. They even brought out birthday churros for our birthday girl.

This was one of the few places open in the area on a Sunday night. I have had good meals at the Canary Wharf branch, so we were happy to come here. The place looked a bit cavernous with all of the empty tables and there was no-one by the entrance who noticed that we arrived. So, we just walked in to sit down at a table. At that point, someone came to direct us to a table where they wanted us to sit. For drinks, we got bottles of still water and sparkling water. Just beware that these cost money — for the sparkling water, fair enough, but I’m not sure if the still water was just filled from the tap. We each had a burrito — my wife had chicken and I had steak. These were enjoyable and it was a quick and filling meal. We also had guacamole and chips, but may not have ordered those if we knew that we would be getting chips with our burritos anyway. The service was friendly enough, but felt very much ‘tick the box’. The total cost was just over £20, which seems alright considering what we ordered and keeping in mind that this is essentially takeaways.

For those of you who don’t know, Wahaca is a chain. That said, it is rare to find good Mexican food in London(I mean real Mexican food) and this comes pretty darn close. The portions are pretty small, so you will find yourself looking to order more plates to fill your hungry belly. That said, the food is good for those hankering for something a little spicy with flavour. This branch has been busy so coming in at lunch will be about a 15 minute wait. If you are going then it might be worth calling ahead and booking a table so as not to eat into your lunch hour.

Not a bad addition to One New Change. We came in around 2:30 for lunch and the place was still pretty buzzy on a saturday. We ordered a margarita and a wine and settled into some mexican goodness(or so we hoped). the chicken tacos were good but the steak ones were abismal. the ceviche salad was a redeeming menu item which i will go back for as well as the grilled chicken with habanero sauce. Minus one point for the steak and not-so-great service.

Usually I’m not sure whether big chains are worth reviewing, but this is more of a shout-out just so everyone knows that HELLOOO Wahaca has arrived in the city! Yup the latest branch of Mexican yumminess has just opened on the first floor of One New Change shopping centre with all the welcoming wooden furniture, bright lights and shiny happy staff(long may they stay that way) that we’ve come to expect from the name. Didn’t take long for my team to try it out for lunch, and luckily we were seated straight away as a group of 8 just after midday. No chance this would’ve happened an hour later as the queue was soon out the door, though apparently unlike other Wahaca’s this one takes reservations. Boom. The small plates of street food are still the way to go, all fresh and tasty — the sweet potato + feta taquitos and chipotle chicken quesadillas being my highlights. The guys who got the sharing selection also made lots of approving noises. Meanwhile enjoyed a ginger beer(handmade in Dalston of all places dontcha know), and figured on a weekday I’d better save the organic tequila for another visit ;) I’m sure peeps who are better informed would tell me it’s not Real Mexican Food, but for me this is still a cut above The Explosion of the Burrito Chains. There’s also some flyers in there with info on the bonus sustainable stuff they’re trying to do like with pig farmers and wasted heat energy from the freezers, but err I digress! It’s a welcome addition to the centre anyway and I’ll defo be back(and hopefully make use of the foosball table in the corner at some point too!).
