Whistles

I like this store a lot because I can wear almost everything and I want it all. That said, it is a horribly expensive store in my opinion, and I would only buy a FEW items that would be key classics rather than going mad and filling my wardrobe here.
I’d rather pad out my wardrobe with Zara and H&M.

Whistles does indeed deserve some cat-​calls (Is there another word for that annoying whistle noise?) as each time I walk by I find myself drooling over high-​quality, fashion-​forward, edgy and design-​inspired pieces.
The designers will probably come to a screeching halt when they read this, but I adore that Whistles can provide me with more a grown up and higher quality Topshop feel. The patterns and materials are much more thought-​out and appealing, without loosing the trendy or edgy nature.
I’ve been in more times than my wallet would like to admit, because while I love that Whistles stays on trend, I also find that the prices are exorbitantly high. I’m willing to pay them as I truly do believe that you get what you pay for, but it doesn’t mean that I like it! (Nor do I like having to dish out on dry-​cleaning every item of theirs that I own.)

Of late I’ve become a little obsessed with Whistles — somehow everything they make seems to suit me quite well (and I might also be swayed by the fact I can fit in a smaller size than usual here) — the clothes are well-​made and they have a knack for choosing lovely patterns, i.e. ones that aren’t floral (too girly for me) or giant (unfalttering).
This obsession has significantly increased my dry-​cleaning bill however — check their labels.
Anyway, just a shout out to the Upper Street branch which is local to my work so I popped in on a quest for a dress. They didn’t have the dress, but they searched and printed all the stores that did, and were charming and friendly to boot, even though I left without buying anything and a trail of tried-​on clothes (waiting for next paycheque) in the changing room.
Excellent sales.
The Westfield and Northcote Road branches are great too, though Westfield has the biggest selection.

heute erinnert mich ein schöner origineller rock noch an meinen einkauf bei whistles in islington.
während eines mehrwöchigen aufenthalts 2005 bei einer freundin dort, hatte ich genügend zeit die shops in der upper street rauf und runter durchzuforsten.
toll gestylter laden mit netten mitarbeitern, die mich damals gut beraten haben. schwere vorhänge, gold, lila, pink, schwarz,…einladend nicht nur das interieur, sondern auch die vielfalt an außergewöhnlichen klamotten.
sofort hatte ich mich in diesen rock verliebt und habe dafür knapp 400EUR dahingeblättert. bis heute bereue ich’s nicht, da ich so einen ähnlichen rock noch nie gesehen habe. er sitzt super (muss nur ein wenig enger gemacht werden) und fällt schönmit stiefeln oder pumps ein hit. die qualität ist immer noch top. gebe das kleidungsstück jedoch in die reinigung, da ich meiner WaMA nicht so vertraue :-)
die aktuelle kollektion an röcken auf der homepage finde ich zwar jetzt nicht so der knaller, aber ich habe ja meinen ;-)
whistles ist auf jeden fall stöbern, anprobieren und kaufen wert, besonders im schnuckeligen, chilligen islington!
von der station angel aus einfach die straße rechts hochlaufen und über tolle café, delis und diners sowie shoppingparadiese stoßen
der flohmarkt in islington ist auch immer eine reise wert.

Whistles. Whistles. What a fabulous name for a shop. Whistles. And how wonderful that the clothes they sell are so beautiful. I think the name, ‘Whistles’, was an extremely thought-​through, intelligent choice: the clothes they sell here are like a breath of fresh air. I feel revitalised when I walk in to a Whistles shop. If I had to give you three adjectives to describe the clothes in Whistles, I would use ‘sophisticated’, ‘flowing’ and ‘luxurious’. Patterns are rare but not non-​existent, prices are high but understandable considering what you’re paying for and you will never want to change out of your Whistles clothes even if the wind changes.
