Loved the atmosphere in this place, it did feel like I was in Spain! The the best road I’ve had in the north east and certainly the best value I’ve had in the country. This are definitely made fresh to order. I liked the fact they had morcilla on the menu, it was delicious and I can also recommend crocettas. The tortilla de patatas could have been better, I found it to be like the ones you find in the supermarket in Spain, not the home made ones and it was clear it had been heated in the microwave, however it was still good. Will definitely be going back when I’m up here.

I think this is the sister restaurant of El Coto, but the food wasn’t nearly as good! It was fine, average, but I was disappointed because I had such high hopes. I like the big, cheerful room filled with people and the friendly Spanish servers. One of our friends was gluten-free(for medical reasons, not by choice), and the servers took it SO seriously, telling her if potatoes were fried in the same frier as items containing gluten, one of them even saying«It is very dangerous!» So eat with confidence, if you are gluten-free. Between the four of us, we ordered a whole big bunch of stuff. Ensalada Mixta — a nice, large-portioned, fresh salad of veggies in a vinaigrette. Nice to have some fresh vegetables with a tapas meal. Bread with Ali-Oli — a must try, I could eat this garlic aioli every day for the rest of my life. Tabla Mixta — a small portion(between four people) of serrano ham and manchego cheese, tasty with the bread. Cazuela de calamares — squid in white wine and tomato sauce. Pretty nice dish. Paella Valenciana — small paella with fish and chicken. Rather disappointing in terms of flavor, just pretty ordinary. Fish not especially nice. Tortilla Espanola — so disappointing because the one at El Coto was unbelievably good, and this was really lackluster. Tasted fine, just plain and ordinary. I felt silly after talking it up so much because the other one was so good. Fricase de Pollo — chicken in creamy mushroom sauce Another tasty but pretty average dish. Nothing special. Habas con Jamon Serrano — broad beans with serrano ham — can’t really remember, to be honest. Cordero en calderata — lamb in tomato sauce. This was probably the favorite of the table, very tender meat. Chorizo Picante — chorizo with garlic and white wine. This was fine. The food just wasn’t very inspired, and tasted like very standard versions of classic tapas dishes. I’d try somewhere else before returning. We had a pleasant evening, the atmosphere is very appealing, but the food is passably good — which in the end makes it somewhat forgettable.

The best Tapas place I’ve ever had the pleasure of dining at, and I have been to plenty. It is authentic, has a delightful atmosphere and the food is delicious! The menu has so many great dishes to choose from, the sangria is always good and the service has always been great too. Any time I want tapas, this is the place I will go.

I love this Spanish restaurant. It is not part of a chain, which I like. The food is always very good and the service is friendly too. The menu is really extensive with so many mouthwatering choices. We enjoyed the lunch time offer which was 3 tapas dishes for 10.95. The things that really stood out for me were the prawns in chilli and garlic(gambas al ajillo), potatoes fried with chorizo and red peppers(patatas corijeras — amazing) and the ham and chicken croquettes(croquetas de jamón y pollo). I am not a fan of blue cheese but my mam and boyfriend said the«pork fillet served in a creamy blue cheese and mushroom sauce(lomitos al cabales) was absolutely delicious. All in all, a mouthwateringly delicious meal. Will definitely be going back the next time I am home!

Situated inside an on old bank tucked away off the main drag I was really looking forward to an evening of spanish cuisine. The menu look great and we settled for a set tappas feast All pretty uninspiring to be perfectly frank. The occasional dish was really nice but overall just plain, as is this review to reflect that. The staff were great; attentive and friendly but that really was the highlight.

Went here for dinner with a co-worker on a Tuesday night. The restaurant was uncrowded, atmosphere was very cool… Spanish style. They have a great wine selection. We ordered from the tapas menu(not sure if they have a full dinner menu?) and shared 5 tapas, which was plenty for the two of us. The tapas selection had a great variety, lots of choices. Our server was very helpful when we had questions about the portions and preparation of the food. The cost of the meal and bottle of wine was very reasonable and as expected for a tapas restaurant. I would certainly recommend this place!

The whole place is in need of refurbishment, there was no welcome when we arrived and we had to hover around the entrance and try to attract the attention of a staff member. The food was really awful, it was bland and tasteless and all the dishes tasted the same. We got the distinct impression that the food had been hanging around for ages and merely heated up. Not expensive but we will not be going back and will be telling others not to go also.

El Toro is my favourite tapas place in Newcastle, the atmosphere is lively but not too noisy, the staff welcoming and helpful, the food is also very nice and the set menu normally leaves everyone on the table stuffed with plenty of food left over, the last time I went there was so much food when they brought out a bonus dish of spare ribs everyone groaned as they looked lovely but no one could quite manage to eat a full one. They are also very accommodating with birthdays and also big tables, If I was going to recommend one tapas place in Newcastle I would definitely recommend El Toro

This is a great Tapas Restaurant, always busy and has a really lively atmosphere. The food is good and the size of tapas are on the larger end of the scale — reflected in the price. I’ve come here only during the week and it’s always very full which is a good thing. It’s a great place to go if you’re in a large crowd as Tapas are ideal for sharing, the service is reasonably quick and it’s lively — I wouldn’t necessarily come here for a romantic night out. They could do with mending some of the wobbly tables which is rather frustrating…

This is a taps restaurant which I have been to many times. It’s great for a big group, as it’s a busy, bustling kind of place, and the nature of the food means it’s a sociable thing to do! Lots of stretching and sharing! The set menus are really good when you don’t know what you fancy, and make working the bill out with friends at the end very easy! The sangria hits the spot too! If anyone tries the paella, let me know what it’s like, I’ve always fancied trying it but always give in to the set menus instead. Good location for town and the quayside too.
