The Pommelers Rest

Been here about 2 yrs ago and couldn’t find a flaw. Service excellent, reasonably quick and friendly prices-​if you consider it being just a stonethrow away from Tower Bridge. Food was great, well prepared steak and chips perfect. I would return.

Veamos… ¿cómo comparo yo esto con algo de Madrid? Quizás es como si cogemos un sitio rollo Vips y lo llenamos de gente que va ahí porque la bebida es muuuy barata y se puede pillar un buen pedo.
El bar es como de moqueta, súper cuidado de apariencia y estás ahí todo viciado pillando cubatas, que en otros sitios te valen a 9 libras, y aquí por 5 tienes uno como dios manda! Imaginad cómo sale uno después de un buen rato. A mí me vino de gloria la hamburguesa que pedí, aunque no era la mejor del mundo, asentó el asunto.
Allí va toda la familia a comerse un buen platazo, mientras la gente sin mucho dinero le da a las tragaperras o los jóvenes se entonan para la noche.
¡En serio, hay uno en cada barrio! Escoge tu favorito y deja de irte a los bares de moda, tu cartera te lo agradecerá y tu vida social también :)

What can I say, it’s a Wetherspoons pub. The food is not great but I have had worse for double the price in other pubs. The winner here is that the price of drinks is by far the cheapest you will find in central London. Eat elsewhere, drink here.

We ordered the wings. Best I have ever had. Would definately come back. Good ciders and beer

I know there’s been a lot of whining about this place. However it was tasty, inexpensive and welcomed my kids. Delicious fish and chips, good Tikka Chicken and my sons we’re happy with a burger and a hot dog. Maybe my (mild) buzz clouded my judgement but aside from having to order at the bar it was great. Service was excellent. I would give it 4.5 but since it ain’t an option…5

Stopped in for a quick bite and a beer after visiting by the Tower Bridge and my purse was stolen. Wait staff was helpful in catching the whole ordeal on surveillance and calling the authorities but it’s obviously something that happens here often. I would avoid it at all costs!

Stopped over for lunch and to escape the cold. Fairly aware that this is a chain pub, despite the «free house» assertions. Relatively spacious pub, more seating than normal. Toilets have heated water, automatic taps and flushes — some familiar mod cons from back home.
Fairly ok selection of cask ales and U.S. craft beers for the hopheads. Had me an Abbot Ale, and the missus had a kopparberg — although I should have gotten her a weston’s still cider.
Food is passable — not gourmet fare by any measure, but if you don’t have high expectations it shouldn’t disappoint. I’ve had worse for sure. Had the beef pie, pastry was a bit too thick, mushy peas lacked flavour but chips were decently done, and the beef stayed warm through my leisurely meal. Missus had chicken tikka masala, which was serviceable, but only just. Naan was hard and poppadums lacked spice. Still, she was satisfied, which is a good thing in my book.
Ordered at the bar, despite sitting at the entrance — hey, this is a pub after all. Did you think a waiter would come serve you? :p that said, I did see some waiters assisting tourists with deciphering the menu so that’s a plus for me. Bartender seemed a touch impatient, but not overtly discourteous. Special snowflakes may feel affronted.
All in, an ok experience. We needed a place to eat, rest and escape the sudden winter chill — this place did the job well enough.

Ein sehr schöner auf alt gemachter Pub der einen gewissen scharm versprüht. Das preis Leistungs Verhältnis stimmt, was das essen angeht guter englischer Standard. Es gibt die Möglichkeit essen zu kombinieren um ein paar Pfund zu sparen…
Im groben und ganzen eine gute Adresse für einen deftigen englischen imbiss.

Update: The Pommeler’s Rest is still a run-​of-​the-​mill Whetherspoons franchise pub, completely void of character, but with low prices (especially for Central London) and a decent selection of beers and pub food.
Sadly the quality of the food (especially the steaks available at Tuesday Steak Club) has dropped quite a bit, so I have to reduce the my original verdict to two stars.

Endroit typique et sympathique (family welcome) du coup pratique avec les enfants. Le mercredi c’est soirée du poulet pour 6,75 livres un plat de poulet avec frites et une boisson (pint of Guinness for me :-) on mange bien et le cadre est calme car très grand donc pas bruyant. Juste à côté du tower bridge idéal pour dîner avant de se faire une soirée london bus by night

We stopped in here after crossing the Tower Bridge because it said family friendly. We have two small kids, so we thought we would give it a go. It turned out to be the worst dining experience! We looked over the menu to decide and went to the bar to order. We quickly learned they were out of almost everything on the menu! It was 5:30pm! We had chosen 2 jacket potatoes with beans and sausage and mash as 3 of our 5 meals. We quickly had to scramble to find other choices. They were out of some of the beers too! I had ordered the sweet potato, chickpea and spinach curry. Apparently, they didn’t see it on the order because it didn’t come! Everyone else’s second/​third choices had arrived and they were eating. I had to go to the bar again. I quickly learned they were out of that too! I ordered something simple, but by the time everyone had finished my meal had not arrived! We went back to the bar and received our money back for my meal. They food that did arrive was not very good from what I have been told. The people at the next table ordered chips/​fries with their meals and didn’t receive those either! Apparently, they had run out of those too! They also had run out of ketchup!
Note: one of the staff members told us they were waiting for a delivery that day which they had never received. Much of the food they ordered did not arrive. It was the day after a holiday, so it could have happened. The staff member was nice, honest and trying to be helpful.
It was one of the worst dining experiences. I actually walked out hungry because I never received my dinner. I don’t think I will return here ever.

I’ll keep it short, the cider was warm and flat and the bartender was fairly rude.
Do yourself a favour, plenty if better pubs in London.

I found this Wetherspoons a bit disappointing truth be told.
Ok the prices of food and drink are typically affordable and the pub has a nice friendly atmosphere, however our beer tasted flat and watered down. I requested the bar staff to change the beer for another draught, and it was still flat and weak.
Food looks nice, so i would say do not dismiss this pub entirely. Wetherspoons in general are always a safe option pub and value for money.

During a day trip with my friends in London we decided to stop in the Pommelers Rest.
Decoration of the place is quite simple but warm; must be nice to watch sports events on TV with Friends.
Be aware that you’ll have to write your order by yourself on a paper sheet and give it to the waitress so as to be served, it not kind of things we’re used to and is not really pleasant.
Food is ok, the Fish and Chips was not the best I had; and the beer choice has nothing smashing.
To put it in a nutshell, a place that is ok for a quick lunch but nothing incredible.

Not one of my favourite Wetherpoons. It is noisy, even in the cosy areas. The loos are ok. There didn’t appear to any garden. It looks a bit like a men’s club and you get blokes smoking fags by the door which is a bit intimidating. The curry is nice. Menu, the usual, something for everyone. Staff not conversationalists, atmosphere a bit dull. Only go there for cheap food. Not a very nice place for women.

A run-​of-​the-​mill ‘Spoons. Has about eight cask ales on. Cheap food, cheap beers. The place itself is pretty nice with pleasant views of the roads outside. Not one of the better bars in this area, but you can probably find an interesting beer in here if that’s what you’re after, especially if it is during a festival.

This is a very nice Wetherspoons right near Tower Bridge (building used to be the tower bridge hotel). The cheap drinks and interesting choices of ales are out in force, whereas the personalities that sometimes make a trip to your cut price local an adventure seem more or less absent. Perhaps the abundance of mirrors on the way to the toilets scares them off. Perhaps they are worried about the Pommelers (they pummel I hear!)
The location is great. The aforementioned tower bridge. well it towers over the pub, yet despite its proximity to the tourist areas and to the business part of London it manages not to be full of either. I guess they don’t want to be pummeled by a Pommeler either.

One of the better ‘Spoons in London. We were there on Thursday and had one of their festival beers– Flying Dutchman, a take on Dutch/​Belgian ”wit bier”. Family friendly til 9 O’Clock. Has been no smoking since long before the ban

Pommelers Rest is a JD Wetherspoons but is nevertheless a nice pub which is great for watching sport and serves lovely fried breakfasts as it opens at 9am. It is also the place to go if you are watching the pennies as the drinks are so cheap I had to look at the menu twice. This is one night out that won’t break the bank which is also probably why it is a favourite amongst students.
The staff are friendly and the food is actually very nice with a good variety. I was surprised at how tasty the Sunday dinner is and at £6.50, I definitely couldn’t grumble!
