I haven’t stayed at the King’s Head, though I have popped in for a pint and to watch the football. Inside there is standard pub decoration — paintings and photos that don’t quite match, a roaring fire(which was very appreciated after walking up to the Hoad monument earlier in the day), a range of chairs and stools to sit on. As we were in during a match, everyone was facing one of the three screens, though one party quickly left and we were able to take their table. Patience pays off! Unfortunately they didn’t have any draught cider, so I had a Magners, but the girl behind the bar was happy to tell me the different flavours and options. The beer seemed to go down well and barely set us back any pennies. The only thing about pubs like this is the certain cliques that you find; people who always spend certain days here, drinking together, with their own in jokes and certain areas in the bar. One woman, for example, decided the chairs were in the wrong place and started rearranging in the middle of the match. Good, but not great.

Six of us stayed over on a Friday night this July 2011. The pub has recently re-opened and the new management, Andy n Zoe, have worked really hard to get the place moving. The pub is clean, tidy and the beers are gorgeous, with prices significantly below the Ulverston average. The B&B rooms are only £30 per night for the room. The rooms are not en-suite but well worth the £30. Breakfast was delicious and a real plate-full. Parking is not easy but there is on-street parking a few streets away. Well recommended for a short visit to attractive Ulverston.

Lovely Pub with a friendly atmosphere. Great selection of very well looked after real ales, and the Snecklifter was to die for! Stayed there 20 odd years ago, and met the resident ghost, but only spirits in bottles in the bar. Well worth a visit… We did every night of our stay!

The King’s Head is one of the oldest pubs in Ulverston. Inside the pub is the original well covered in glass in the floor. the atmosphere is warm, in the evening, but I prefer sitting in the garden in the afternoon. It is the only pub left in the center of Ulverston which has a bowling green behind it. The pub doesn’t do food, but it doesn’t need to, they have a character pub with a good garden
