The counter by the window is made of cool stone, perfect for leaning against on a hot day. I normally go to the Tea Centre next door, but as I was keen for a coffee(and which feels a bit sacriligeous in the Tea Centre) I thought I’d give this a try. Mid-afternoon, so I had the counter to myself and the very polite waitress brought me a quite strong cuppa. Not the best I’ve ever had, by a long shot, but it came in a great cup, with a choice of white or raw sugar and a lovely crema on top. I didn’t get much of a chance to look at the menu, and they seem to do a lot of corporate catering, not surprising for the location. Lots of people stopped by and seemed to know the staff by name, which augers well. I was too busy flicking through the latest trashy mags on the counter and looking out over busy King Street and the Theatre Royal, wondering exactly what level of inquisitorial torture would be required to get me to willingly sit through The Jersey Boys. I reckon I’d survive on the rack for a bit, but the strappado would get me in the end.
