A really pleasant surprise! Admittedly, I had low expectations going in because I’m a big dim sum fan but never been really impressed by the offerings I’ve found in Paris. I’ve given up any hope of finding the real deal experience — individual carts loaded with bamboo baskets pushed around a bustling, banquet hall size space where you’re expected to flag them down and order by pointing. Even the more authentic places in the 13th do not replicate this and the dim sum itself just somehow seems lacking. However Dim Sum Cantine in the 9th is a little gem, tucked away on a small side street off Rue des Martyrs. The owner was very funny and friendly and chatted with us for quite a while. The quality of the ingredients is quite high and the delicacy of the dumplings comes across in the different textures of the«pâté.» One version had pork and ginger and a flour based wrapper. I liked this one a lot as it provided a nice, toothsome density. Others had the more traditional rice flour based wrapper(like the Ha Kao) and did not disappoint. They also had excellent bao, which is something that’s become super trendy at the moment. It’s difficult to get bao dough right, and I’ve seen some places fail by making it too bready or too dense. Dim Sum Cantine’s bao were well executed, like all of their dumplings. I’d definitely go back!

Personally, Nothing much more special than other restaurant. Though, Was decent enough to be called dim sum compare to the real one. But its real good one compare to those i found on chinese vietnamese in Paris. Desert quiet expensive compare to whats inside(1 piece of egg custard bao for 5eur) and its dissapointing since i expect a liquidy soft custard.
