The Hotel Montpensier has been here in the center of Paris for a very long time. The floors slant with the weight of 400 years.(The hotel began after the war, about 1947) the staff is constant and the pleasures are all around. It is basic and clean. What more do you need when you have Paris and the Palais Royal at your back? Easy to get to, hard to leave.

No frills. Best location ever. Just steps away from the louvre and public transit. All sites easily accessible via walking or via metro. Safe neighborhood. Clean rooms and washrooms. Safe location in a touristy area. Cheap considering other hotels in this area cost well over 200 euros a night. Well the location is the best for any newcomer to Paris. A 2 minute walk to the river seine(pont neuf). 10 minute walk to the notredame. You can see the louvre from the entrance. Metro was easily accessible for both lines of metro so commuting to Versailles(30 minutes) or eiffel tower(15 minutes) were quick and easy. This hotel looks appears like your typical canadian motel. Average rooms nothing spectacular. But it provided no frills at a very cheap price. I was with a group of 8 and we booked 2 double rooms and a quadruple room. The rooms were all on the second floor. Clean and provided everything we needed for our stay in paris. There was air conditioning and a television(which was never used). Private washrooms were very clean. Towels and linens were changed daily. There was also a public shared shower and washroom which was used by some and they stated it was so much cleaner than our washrooms bc so many people were using it. Small lift was fun and could carry 3 people of normal bmi snuggly. But during our stsy we just used the stairs. They do have a room which is decorated with the french charm if you wanted a classic Paris experience. It was beautiful. But for my stay we were only there to sleep bc we were too busy sightseeing. I was a bit worried staying here bc it had some bad reviews on trip advisor but my stay was excellent and we virtually had no issues during our stay. I tried to book this hotel again for my second stay but it seems to book up months in advance. :(So book early to get the best rates and availibilty. I think we stayed in a quadruple room for like 20 euros a night each. A steal for a room in the heart of the city. I would not stay anywhere else if you are a busy sightseer but do not want to hostel it!!! Only downside is that there were not many cheap places to eat since we were in prime touristy location of paris. But the hotel louvre had an amazing 3 course breakfast for 10 – 12 euros!

The analogy of a once attractive old woman, now resigned to stumbling along on a small pension, and not even bothering to comb her hair properly, comes to mind when I think of this place. We were booked here by my travel agent. He apparently took my desire for«affordable» and«central Paris» extremely literally. It is in the center, steps from the Louvre. It is affordable, about 110 euros per night recently. It is also a faded, shabby, overall rather gloomy little hotel. I guess I was shocked after the sharp and modern place we had in Barcelona, but it WAS a shock when I opened the room door and was confronted by a tiny, ill-lit room, with two worn out looking beds, complete with threadbare blankets and carpet that looked 50 years old. We immediately checked for bedbugs(none, thank goodness). I had to search for outlets, finally finding them embedded in the wall light and in the bathroom. The towels were barely more substantial than kleenex, but we made do. The room did prove to be basically clean and quiet, so there was that. The hotel charges 11 euros for a simple continental breakfast… that’s robbery! Thus another shortcoming was revealed… virtually no decent cafes or patisseries located in the immediate area. After three nights we moved to a better hotel in Montparnasse, for only 5 euros more per night. I’d not recommend this place.

A perfectly located, affordable and clean hotel just steps from the Louvre. My mom and I had a great time staying here on our Paris getaway weekend. We were there in the winter, so we did turn up our radiator pretty high at night and use the extra blankets in the closet. Bring your own soap and shampoo for the showers here, but don’t worry about towels. I felt safe leaving our belongings here. They even offer free WiFi that works best in the lobby, but I got reception from our room. If you want to stay here, try to book far in advance — it’s one of the cheapest but nicest options in the area. I’ll definitely stay there again on my next trip!
