la salle est extrêmement bien décoré. on est loin de la nappe rouge et des chaises en bois kitch des restaurants indien tradi. le burger dans un cheese nan est vraiment bon et original. Et le desert a la fleur de rose est une tuerie.

Le cadre est sympa. Bön ok les plats sont bons mais pas dingues. Si vous cherchez une cuisine indienne traditionnelle passez votre chemin. Un plus pour le service et les cocktails.

Marcel en deux points :
— de la pseudo cuisine indienne sans épices.
— la palme du service le plus exécrable de Paris mais seulement seconde place concernant la lenteur de celui-​ci.
Bref foncez chez Marcel si vous êtes maso et avez le palais aussi affûté que votre grand-​mère bretonne qui né connaît que le goût du jambon blanc et du sarrasin !

Yes! Pour le coup ce Marcel là me donne envie de lui donner 4.5 :)
Dîner entre amis réussi dans un cadre très agréable: les lumières tamisées, les bougies, la disposition de la salle, les murs … C’est le premier bon point de ce restaurant!
Le deuxième excellent point c’est de proposer de la nourriture indienne! Dans ce cadre moderne, pas du tout estampillé indien où m’ont donné rendez-​vous mes amis je né m’attendais pas à une si bonne surprise en ouvrant la carte! Un choix intéressant, de viandes et de poissons, des prix ultras corrects (16 €-17 € en moyenne pour les plats: on est à Paris je rappelle!).
Les plats de toute la table étaient bons, butter chicken, tikka, naan à l’ail– au fromage –à la viande, mention spéciale à l’accompagnement épinards!
Petite déception sur les cocktails qui manquaient de goût et de maîtrise, c’est dommage! Préférez donc un verre de vin, ils ont une carte sympa et notamment un vin rouge d’Afrique du Sud excellent!

Un restaurant indien qui mérite d’être connu.
Découvert par hasard, je suis ressortie de mon premier repas avec une seule envie: y retourner. Ce fût chose faite. Et après ma seconde visite le constat était le même: Marcel, c’est vraiment bon.
La carte est très variée, avec pas mal d’options végé, et le choix est assez difficile comme tout donne envie. J’ai pu tester plusieurs choses, dont le dahl qui est une petite merveille, ou encore les naans salés (meilleurs que les sucrés au passage) qui sont hyper cool aussi. Côté boisson, leur cocktails né sont pas mal non plus.
Si je devais reprocher quelque chose au lieu ce serait: le bruit et le temps d’attente. Mais rien de terrible qui me gèné au point de né pas vouloir y retourner. Loin de là.

Excellent restaurant indien, qui a une belle décoration et qui né souhaite pas rétablir une ambiance «indienne» au seins de leur établissement.

Delicious Indian food. Tons of variety as well as fusion food for those daring ones. Came here as a group of three for dinner and the place was absolutely packed. The ambiance is great; definitely a «bobo» place right beside the Saint Martin Canal. The only downside was that the staff got our reservation wrong so we ended up waiting for a good hour before getting seated. Other than that, great service and great food. Slightly pricey, but totally worth the splurge.

La localisation (sur le canal) et la salle en elle est sont top!
Les plats sont plutôt bons et les accompagnements également.
En revanche je né mets que trois étoiles car :
1) le service est assez aléatoire (voire mauvais — la serveuse n’a décroché qu’un sourire au moment du pourboire et son collègue était exécrable)
2) les prix sont trop élevés à mon goût

L’accueil de la personne qui place à table est naze par contre. Froid et désagréable.
Il serait bon de lui rappeler le traitement qu’on doit apporter à un client.

Great place to get a coffee, people watch at Canal St Martin, and/​or get a bite to eat if you like. Hidden elegance in the gritty and cool corner of the Canal. Huge windows for you to peek out of and enjoy :-)

This is certainly not the best indian food you’ve ever had but the overall experience at Marcel gets my approval. The staff is friendly, the service is quick, and the music is awesome.
If you like your indian on the spicy side be sure to let them know as they serve their dishes ultra mild.

Un vraiment joli endroit pour prendre un verre. Je suis passée devant et j’ai tout de suite flashé: des gros fauteuils en cuir, une déco d’extrême bon goût, une vaisselle qui va avec, et une lumière tamisée, que demande le peuple ?
Alors on entre et on se pose pour prendre un verre, certaines craquent pour un naan chocolat banane (je recommande). Les boissons né sont pas données, certaines sont même des jus en bouteille, je trouve ça un peu excessif, mais bon on est du côté branché du canal saint martin alors ça se comprend.
Je n’ai pas encore testé la nourriture, mais c’est vrai que c’est un chouette endroit pour se poser et boire un verre en début de soirée.

Marcel is a nice little Indian restaurant located right beside the Canal Saint-​Martin, close to the Gare de l’Est. It is easily accessible by public transport (Metro stop «Jacques Bonsergent»). We went there for dinner on a nice and hot summer evening so we were pleased to see that the panorama windows were completely open. The interior is quite dark and while studying the menu I wished there was more light than the candlelight on the table :-) Our waitress was really nice and due to our little knowledge of the French language we were quite happy that her English was good. Even though she was really nice, she forgot some parts of our order which caused a little too much waiting time. I had the Butter Chicken for the main course and the rice with peas. It was very nice! We enjoyed our visit at Marcel and can recommend it to everyone who enjoys the Indian cuisine.

Resto Indien. Déco et service sympa. La cuisine est très bonne, j y retournerai. J ai commandé un agneau punjab et des nans, très bon!

We found this great restaurant by mistake. A Condé Nast article had recommended going to «Bobo», the nickname for the area around Canal Saint Martin. We were dropped off on the other side of the canal and wandered over to the side Marcel was on. We were excited to find out they served Indian food and settled in for some delicious food along with a bunch of music from Jarimoquai. The waiters were awesome, and spoke english when we asked. Marcel is a great restaurant we would recommend to anyone who is tired of Jambon sandwiches and crepes.

Belle déco inspirée de l’Inde coloniale L’endroit est calme, une légère musique de fond les prix sont un peu élevés pour le dîner (compter plus de 30 euros pour entrée, plat, riz et nan, boisson) L’attente des plats est un peu longue mais Ils sont bons et bien présentés :)

J’aime ce restaurant indien au bord du canal Saint Martin. Je pense qu’on peut trouver un indien aussi bon pour moins cher, mais peut-​être pas forcément dans ce quartier…

Beautiful space especially at night. Stopped in here mainly for a drink then ended up ordering something to eat.
Be sure to try the cheese naan! The service was great and I found the prices to be very reasonable.

Côté gustatif, je n’ai trouvé à la cuisine de Marcel absolument rien de folichon. Surprenant ce nom Marcel quand on jette un oeil à la carte qui propose des plats indiens.
J’ai choisi des samossas végétariennes, et un curry d’épinards.
C’est plutôt le service que j’ai trouvé mauvais et étrange. Impossible d’attraper un serveur quand on en a besoin. Le serveur principal était vraiment bizarre, ce ton sarcastique désagréable et blasé que je n’ai pas trouvé normal (+ on se trompe dans ma commande, on oublie ma commande etc.).
En gros, à part l’emplacement et la déco du lieu, je né lui trouve pas grand chose à ce Marcel!

This restaurant is the best. I was introduced to it by a friend and I have been back almost every week since. We had a big department dinner here about a month ago and they accommodated us very well, and handled our very large group with ease and efficiency. The entire department was raving about this place.
The food is delicious, like an Indian fusion, Salmon Punjabi is the best, as is Butter Chicken and of course the Lamb Tiki Masala. We always get the appetizer platter, but if you want only one appetizer, I say it’s a toss up between the veggie/​cheese wraps and the Beef Samosas.
The bar is on point, and they are not stingy with the drinks at all :)
The atmosphere here is probably what puts the cherry on top and makes this a «best of Paris» in my opinion. Stylish, chic vibe without the pretentiousness, or over-​the-​top bulls***. Dim lighting and comfy furniture will have you in here for hours just socializing and enjoying the evening.
Shoutout to the staff for always, always being so nice and fun. LOVE this place!

Une petite trouvaille sympa sur le canal saint martin. C est un restaurant au nom original de marcel et comme son nom l indique il s agit d un restaurant indien.
Les nan sont variés on en trouve nature, fromage, fromage à l ail et fines herbes, et à la viande (je recommande ^^).
Ils font des burgers indiens (boeuf ou poulet) qui sont ps mal, et où le nan remplace judicieusement le pain burger.
C’est bon pas trop gras, et le prix raisonnable. Le week-​end il faudra s y rendre vers 12h00 12h30 max après c est complet.
Pour les fans de restaurant indien qui cherche de l originalité ^^

Plutot pas mal comme endroit, un indien a la belle deco, et bien placé sur les quais st martin.
Cuisine honnête, sans plus, assez grasse toutefois.
Tarifs élevés.

So Parisien, but soooooo good — loved loved loved the food and the cocktails, plus the deco is pretty awesome. Can’t wait to go back!

Pour tout dire, à la base on voulait tester un nouveau resto juste à côté. Mais la nouveauté a du bon et du moins bon: il était blindé dès 19h30.
C’est pas grave, on n’est pas fermés.
J’aime bien ce nom de bistrot parisien typique qui cache derrière sa grade façade vitré un restau indien avec une déco industrielle, ça change !
On est 8, peut-​être 9: «Ok pas de souci, on pourra rajouter une place».

La formule du midi est plutôt pas mal, le service est rapide et la déco très sympa ce qui est toujours un plus.

Le mélange parfait entre le style occidental et la nourriture indienne.
Le cadre est génial, très sobre, avec des tapis, des moulures, des lustres. Rien en apparence né dit que ce restaurant est un restaurant indien. C’est dans le détail qu’on le comprends: portrait de maharajas ou de brahmans, photos d’éléphants et d’Asie, tapis orientaux, persans. Ce restaurant de grande taille par rapport aux autres du quartier est dans un très bel écrin mélangeant vintage, modernisme et exotisme, le tout au bord des eaux miroitantes du canal St-​Martin.
Les entrées sont très copieuses. J’ai pris un poulet grillé aux épices avec des légumes et j’ai eu le droit à deux cuisses complètes. Les plats font sensiblement la même taille et sont tout aussi copieux. J’avais pris du boeuf aux épices et aux oignons, en sauce avec un riz aux légumes. Tout simplement très bon. Evidement c’est très européen, on né retrouvera pas des plats épicés immangeables. On peut parler d’une réactualisation de la cuisine indienne. Et ça c’est pas si courant.
Finalement pour 16 euros, on mange largement a sa faim, avec entrée-​plat ou entrée-​dessert + boisson. Un restaurant pour fêter une occasion, pour se plaire plaisir en amoureux, entre amis ou entre collègues.

I’ve never seen a better looking Indian restaurant! Not only the interior design, but also the way they serve your dishes — it’s a pleasure to look at! It’s pricey, but affordable, and all the food I tried there worth it. I recommend you to try their alcohol free drinks (juice cocktails), they are delicious.

We spotted Marcel from the other side of the canal and instantly wanted to try it out. It looked even better from the inside, really cosy and stylish! We weren’t really on the look out for Indian food but once we saw the menu, we were hooked. My boyfriend had the Indian beef burger which was extremely good! It came with nan bread, onion rings, salad and homemade chips! The service was good and rather quick. Prizes are perfectly okay — compared to all the other restaurants in Paris. I’d definately come back on my next trip to Paris.

I got salmon and spinach paneer. The salmon was a bit over cooked, the sauce with it was good and the spinach paneer was great. My friend also ordered a rose lassi and that was yummy too. The rose flavor/​scent was overpowering.

Marcel is a great place to grab lunch, as I discovered from my last visit to Paris. Indian food generally has a lot of good vegetarian items, but this is where Marcel really shines, in my opinion. I had some curried soup bean dish thing, and it was completely filling and perfect for refueling. The mint tea was fresh, with beautiful leaves in the pot. Cool ambiance, large windows, parlor like and dark but still really cosy. For me, this is a place that invites you to linger and really savor the meal. I recommend! Great location in a place where it can be hard to pick where to have a meal… I know that Marcel will always be a wonderful place.

I really enjoyed dining at this Indian food restaurant. It was truly delicious and in a very cool neighborhood in Paris, where the ‘Bobo’ (bougie bohemian) young professionals (not very touristy) hang out.

I went to Marcel for dinner one rainy night the first week of August. It was one of the few places my friend and I found open.
I was excited to try a new place on the Canal, as I find there are lots of hits and misses in the neighborhood. I’m a big fan of SE Asian cuisine, and was thus very curious to try their spin on Indian.
Arrival was a bit awkward, as on the phone I had been asked where I would like to be seated. I had never been to the restaurant, but told her perhaps a table in the front…
Well, that turned out to be right next to the open door. It was rainy and drafty and I requested we be moved to one of the numerous empty tables nearby. The hostess replied: ‘Well you asked to be seated in the front!’…
Anyway. Once seated, I was still ready to like the place.
The décor is great, very cool and New Yorky.
The menu was interesting and lots of things looked good.
We ordered two starters, two main courses and a bit of wine. (Though the cocktails look great!)
The onion rings and vegetable fritters were both mediocre as were the main courses (chicken tikka and something salmon in coconut milk).
Nothing offensive, just nothing special either.
The chutneys and rice were both fine. (I’m wondering now if there’s any chance the sauces were homemade…)
Service was unenthusiastic. Fine and nice but nothing more. The waitress was unable to answer our questions about various ingredients and preparation.
We didn’t linger long after eating as the place had become extremely loud. I think this must be better at times when weather allows opening doors and windows.
Fortunately the prices are not exhorbitant. If the food were more interesting, it would be a great deal for the neighborhood.
I don’t think I’ll go back for a full meal, but am curious to try the bar menu and possibly the more ‘fusion’ options, like the burger. Oh, and for sure a cocktail!

First off, I dig the warm, comfortable deco and the sofas and arm chairs at the table that make a long leisurely dinner more enjoyable.
We started the evening with cocktails, which included some hits and some misses.
The menu is «upscale» Indian with very reasonable prices. But, with definitely variations from what you’ll find in standard Indian restaurant. For example, they serve burgers as well. Given my take on the food and the general opinion on the table, the best way to eat here is to take the tasting plates with lots of little munchies like samousas, fried onion, etc. We all preferred these options better than the mains. Also early evening they have a special menu (that runs until 8pm) for mixed plates. This is exactly they way I’d take advantage of Marcel — head in for a glass of wine and a mixed plate before 8pm.
They have two choices of rosé, and the one we took with our meal was a big hit with the table. The service was great: they were relaxed and easy going about a couple of the girls sharing an entrée, made some custom adjustments to drinks and seemed generally happy to have customers in.
I spent an enjoyable evening here. Indian food fanatics with a lot of knowledge about it (which, admittedly, I’m expert in the area) may have issues with the menu that is more trendy than traditional. The one thing that keeps it a 3 rather than 4 star for me is the hit and miss tendency on both the food and drinks. I’ll happily go back in again and feel like I know exactly what to order to make me a happy drinker and diner. But, if one just walks in off the street and orders randomly, I don’t think an excellent offering is guaranteed.

Marcel and I are poised for a long love affair. For one, the name: love it! I’ve always had a thing for the name Marcel, don’t ask me why. And when lit up in neon lights in a clean, legible font, I was hooked before I even stepped into the place.
In addition to its name, Marcel also boasts a fabulous perch along the canal with large windows that are opened when its warm so that you can dine in, while feeling like you’re hanging outside along the Quai. It also has a really spacious, very NYC-​inspired, loft-​like design, which makes this stroller-​pushing mama quite pleased.
And in a total twist of logic, Marcel (unlike its name would suggest) is not a French bistro at all. It’s an upscale Indian restaurant! I just swung by for a drink so I didn’t taste the cuisine, but the dishes look quite delicious, especially the various tasting platters that you can nibble on during apero hour, like the Pondicherry platter, samosa platter and nan platter.
While I can’t yet attest to the vibe during dinner, it was a fabulous spot to wind down on Sunday with a crisp glass of rosé and a view of the canal as the sun sets.
