To be perfectly honest, I didn’t think I was going to like it very much at the start. The way it was laid out seemed a little strange, with a pool right in the middle and everything is just so open but the more you come, the less you start to really care about it. Everybody just tends to stick to their own routine. I personally have a love/hate relationships with gyms, if I’m going, it’s almost daily, if not, I probably haven’t been there in months. So far, so good. They offer the usual free classes during the week, personal trainers are always around, and the staff are generally quite friendly and helpful if you need anything. I’ve yet to see the gym when it’s quite though. It’s not really a bad thing. There are plenty of machines, both up & downstairs so you’re never really waiting around, even in those busy after work peak times. Equipment is also very good, rarely will you see that something is out of order, and when it is, it doesn’t stay like that for a very long time. It’s also reasonably clean I have to say, both staff and customers seem to keep it that way. The only downside is the air con. I’m almost certain that it’s due to the pool being right in the centre. The air always feels so stuffy. I do actually think they have their air con on all the time but it rarely helps. On a treadmill or when at the weights machines you get this feeling of damp and blocked up air. Other than that, no complaints, all in all, a pretty great gym.

Last Sunday I became a new member so today I went in to do some exercises and try the machines. Hence my review. What I liked: –There are modern machines by TechnoGym; –There is no aloud music in the background while you do exercise and people seems respect this not talking aloud or shouting. –Free and fresh tap water. –They have TVs with News Channels –Showers are clean, hot water and free shower gel. –Free(limited of 30 participants) free courses like spinning, Zumba etc during all the day. –Opened on Saturday and Sunday. –Free parking spaces –Beside the Shopping Centre. What I found to be improvable(so less stars): –Small swimming pool. At this stage and considering being close to the Aquatic Centre it would be better to remove the pool and use it as extra space for the machines or extra room for classes. –Lights: The main room at the ground floor need more light, better if natural light. –It could be opinable but the style of the gym needs to be refurbished from scratch because it is not modern. OK it doesn’t affect the way you are exercising but for me it affect my mind, as connection withing mind and body. –Getting cheaper with the membership means more people join in so more waiting time, less parking space, etc. –The staff, at least so far didn’t get me that impression of happiness. I have seen some member of the staff around and two at the reception but I didn’t get that wow factor like I am happy to work for this place. What I found strange: –Nobody from the management or staff asked me if I had any health problems or if actually I can do sport. They just ask you to sign an agreement just in case… –When I joined the gym no staff at the reception asked me if I was new, if I was interested in a tour of the gym, etc. In conclusion I think the ratio between what you pay and what you get is fine and you can do some exercise and keep healthy. So for me 3 stars are fair enough.

With the inconsistent weather in Dublin making it difficult to fulfill my outdoor exercise routine, I heard of Westpoint Heath & Fitness Centre from a friend. I ended up signing up with another person and ended up getting a great deal for 2 memberships for the duration of 1 year. The facilities are well maintained and you have a variety of equipment to use. The ground floor has treadmills, steppers, rowing machines, cross trainers, a pool, jacuzzi and steam rooms. All of the free weights can be found on the second floor. Included in the price of the membership are unlimited classes including toning and weights classes, yoga and pilates, spinning and step classes. These classes are brilliant as it’s like a personal training session included in the price of your membership. Although there are certain times that are busier than others, the hours they are open are more than enough to find something that suits everyone. Open 7 days a week, including bank holidays, you have no excuses not to get down to Westpoint. You can even get your hair and nails done after your workout as they have salons for men and women on the premises!

I went in and asked for a tour and got a voucher afterward to try out the facilities. Before going in, they have a library/coffee dock area, the library has board games, a real fire place(v cozy in the winter), newspapers and big couches. Tea/coffee are for a charge, dispensed from a machine. The lockers are spacious and clean, the showers have a good water pressure and the hairdryers are very strong which gets your hair dried in no time. They do a good variety of classes in big studio rooms on the second floor. The machines and weights are on the ground floor, several have their own tv screens & radio. The pool is in the middle of ground floor, 25mts, 1 hot tub and 2 steamrooms(I read they had a sauna, but after people kept throwing pool water on the sauna coals they switched). They have monthly memberships, which is a huge plus and are very reasonably priced. It is a popular gym so it’s always crowded which can be a bit of a turn off, specially if you want to swim and there are no free lanes. They staff is friendly and the whole place is well kept and clean.

A while ago before the other Health and Fitness companies. We got Mr. Dunnes gym on the area. With this fantastic facility i could really recognise the big effort he did setting up his gyms. the weights and machines are great as well as the Jacuzzis, steam room treadmills, steppers and rowing. the changing rooms are nice with big lockers. It has its own parking which is a good advantage to just leave your car there, do you work out plus gym business and straight to your car. some other places you have to park on the street and pay… the pool area is great and I can say that is one of the best. Even being a 25 mts pool you can enjoy a good long swim. Offers are always on the ball to join this place, keep an eye if you live or work near by!!! keep fit and healthy!!!
