we recently stayed at the Royal Marina in Dun Laoghaire and the thoughts of paying 18 each for a hotel breakfast we decided to go walk about and find a café and thank God we did. Having lived here again for ten years this is the best Irish breakfast we have ever had. Go for the full Irish. The quality of the ingredients are outstanding, the flavour, the way they cooked it. The service was great and the ambiance was great also. I highly recommend it and will definitely be back when in the area. I can comment on the coffee as we had tea but next time Ill give it a try and see if the other comment is true.

Rude and unpleasant staff, as well as mediocre food! I would never eat here again even though I live close by! Having had two prior disappointing experiences, I still gave them the benefit of the doubt and booked a table for 9 other ladies for brunch on my Birthday. I was greeted at the door by Mary who ‘welcomed me’ by immediately informing me that they needed the table back after an hour! Despite telling her that I was not told this when I booked the table and that it was a birthday celebration, she sullenly stared at me when I told her we would not be finished by 1.30! At 1.45 Desmond(I think that was his name!) came over. I foolishly thought that maybe he was going to wish me a happy birthday! but no — he came over to say that they can’t have customers ’ hanging about for 3 or 4 hours’ and that they needed the table back by 2.30 at the latest! When I pointed out to him that we had only been there over an hour and were still eating our food, he said that he had kept the table from 12.00 for us although I had booked it for 12.30! He insisted that he had to run a business and we had to leave by 2.30! When I asked to speak to the owner he said that he was one of the owners and that the other owner was busy!(It turned out that he is not an owner and has only been working there a year!) Pretty distressed by his rudeness we all got up and left and I spoke on the way out to Mary again who is the owner or one of them! Her response to my complaint about Desmond was that ‘no one else has complained about him in his year there’! There wasn’t even an attempt to apologize for the upset caused or any interest in the fact that I live close by and had brought 9 of my friends to eat there! When I asked Mary for the names and addresses of the other owners so I could make a complaint she told me that I would have to return after hours to get them from her!!! Aside from the fact that the bill was incorrect, as it had been on each prior visit — always in their favor of course. It seems that as well as being confused as to his role in the restaurant Desmond also has some challenges with basic maths! I am mystified as to why this small café is so pretentious, as the food is mediocre and their cutlery and dishes need an additional run in the dishwasher! I have always believed in supporting local businesses but from now on I will be taking my business and my guests elsewhere for meals. Luckily there are lots of far better places to eat in Dalkey with very pleasant staff who smile, welcome customers and have excellent customer services skills. I will also be contacting Failte Ireland who I used to work for, as it would be totally embarrassing for overseas visitors to experience this level of rudeness! Two of my guests were from the US and they were shocked!

Very nice place for breakfast. Food is really good and well prepared. The vegetarian breakfast has everything and they’ll do it exactly as you asked. Lovely location and nice relaxed atmosphere too. Staff are friendly and nice but reeeeally slow and will completely ignore you if they’re busy. There was only one guy on when we arrived and we were left waiting to order without a word for about 5 minutes! Quite rude.

A very nice place for a brunch. Really friendly atmosphere, good food and nice staff. Nothing else needed for a great early afternoon with coffee and good food. Worth visiting.

This place is a great spot just off the Dalkey Main Street with homely interior and hey, even the outdoor seating provides just oodles of comfort when stopping off for a lite bite, brunch or just a coffee! They have made some recent changes to accommodate more ppl inside which is an added bonus… Place always draws in a crowd from the spending tourists but importantly the good olé regular locals. Recently, I’ve taken to the outdoor seating(god bless summertime) and the service is as good, never feel like I’ve been forgotten about out there! However from time to time, the service can be a little snappy and lacks a little customer service smile! Food wise, without fail the Bacon Benedict time and time again pleases me, but things like the giant full irish are regular faves of the hubby — definitely get plenty of food for your buck! So, why not 5 stars… Like many cafes, for me, it lacks a decent barista to finely craft a coffee and yes, the service can be a little sharp!

Ate both breakfast and dinner here and it was great. The calamari(the best I’ve had anywhere and a must order) and spicy carrot coconut soup with shrimp was delicious. The staff was open and friendly.

Really great spot for breakfast on a Saturday or Sunday but desperately need to work on their coffee. Recently they have extended the café to accommodate more people which is a welcome development to this upbeat little café in the hearth of Dalkey! If you’re in for breakfast I’d recommend the Full Irish.

It was a beautiful day when we came into this place for some tea and a small snack. The croissants were nice, and so was the tea. The biggest problem was that the dishes weren’t clean which sort of made the experience take a nose-dive. It was also pretty cramped in the area that we were seated in(not sure if they had the whole place open or not while we were there. The menu looked like they have good food, and based on some of the pictures I’ve seen on their website & on here, I’d say that’s true. Perhaps we’d have had a better experience if we’d had lunch instead of tea and a snack.

Delicious beautiful food. Great service. Lovely atmosphere. Casual with food that is just really beautifully cooked and presented from steak pie to a beautiful roasted very light chicken breast. You can eat healthy or hearty or both. Very accommodating and welcoming. Sorry it took so long to write this!
