Had a great meal here with my family we were celebrating my mothers birthday and ordered a table here was very impressed with the food and the staff they even let us sneak in earlier to give them a cake to bring out for when we got there with my mother. I had the duck in white mushroom sauce which was something i normally wouldn’t go for but wanted to change it up a bit but i have to say i amglad i did because it was amazing crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. the sauce was lovely and we all got really big servings we were all rolling out of the place stuffed ha. It is great for groups and family events would recommend to anyone that wants to have a good night with great food.

I have to say, as Chinese restaurants go. King Charlie’s isn’t too bad at all. The staff are extremely friendly and courteous, the service is efficient and slick and if there’s a chance you may have to wait a while for your food, they will have no problem in letting you know before you’re seated. I like this place because I know that if I only have limited time on my break in the evenings to eat, they will have a curry in front of me in under 10 minutes. If you frequent the restaurant, Kevin(head waiter) will remember your name, welcome you with a warm smile and handshake and sometimes even buy you a Tsing Tao beer. The food isn’t bad but the main factor that keeps me coming back(apart from the odd free gargle) is the friendliness of the staff. A hand-shake on arrival and departure with a genuine smile goes a long way for me and I WILL be a regular here

So it starts oddly… we just order starters, not sure of the logic, I guess the chefs just wanted a head start.(I would have taken the full order, why bother the customers with multiple rounds of ordering?! Starter was, in fairness, very good — I had the aromatic duck. The hoi-sin is always the key and it was bloody good. After that it starts going down hill a bit. The wait for the main course(ordered 20 mins after the starter) was far too long. It gave us a chance to look around at the slightly Spartan and scruffy surrounds. A bit more wine and the surrounds were forgotten, we were enjoying ourselves after all. Main course(ordered chicken red curry with extra chilli) was disappointing, particularly after the great starter. Mains took a VERY long time. . I ordered a brandy for a digestive… I don’t know what it was but I can tell you I have used more palatable things to remove paint from the railings outside. A-OK just about covers it for King Charlies, grand for a quick bite, not a fine dining experience!
