Despite the fact that the pub is in a shopping centre, which is notable in and of itself, the fact remains that it is not a good pub. I get the impression that it is very much a «regulars» pub, certainly in the evening, and on the few occasions I have gone there I found myself feeling a bit unwelcome. One thing that it does have is a nice view of Dublin bay as it is up pretty high by Dun Laoghaire standards. But you could get that on the roof of the shopping centre anyway…

It is strange to have a pub in a shopping centre — not a fancy bar with low-lying coffee tables, but a real old man’s pub. However, Farrell’s copes remarkably well at being surrounded by outlets such as The Pen Shop — it ignores them completely. Everyone acts as if there is nothing odd about having a Guinness in a place where you can do your weekly shop and in fact it could be the way forward. Most shopping centres have food courts, why not drink courts? The customers are a mix of crusty aul’ fellas and young fellas and ladies are definitely in the minority, but not unwelcome.

It is a pub in a shopping centre. It is a pub in a shopping centre. I can’t emphasize this enough, it’s a pub in a shopping centre. There’s a second floor entrance on the inside. It’s a pub in a shopping centre. Who cares what the inside is like, it’s a pub in a shopping centre. It could be two taps and a hard stare, I wouldn’t care, it’s in a shopping centre.
