Great atmosphere, food, and drinks! This place was superb. Highly recommended when you’re in the area.

Fun place. Lots of tourists. Great traditional Irish music. If food was better I’d give it a 5 star rating. TV views aren’t so good but don’t go there to watch sports.

Best fish and chips I’ve had so far. If you prefer fresh fish with a lighter batter, I’d definitely recommend the fish and chips here. The spooky history of this place is a plus, also.

Totally fine. It’s 9:30pm and no sign of nightlife or music as we came for. None the less, this certainly fits as an authentic Irish bar… To me the tourist, that is! Really nice about sharing wifi password which is essential while traveling.

Only had drinks here but it’s a very nice pub for a pint. They place is homey and eclectic. They have their own brandy they sell that was a nice souvenir.

This is a great, historic spot for a drink. Loads of character and nooks and crannies to explore. Definitely stop for a drink and there is free music in the evenings. However, they have a very pricey menu with very mediocre food. My lasagne was a 2“x 2″ x 2″ block with chips and salad and came to around € 14. My partner had a sad looking panini for € 11. Come for the drink, not the food.

With all the awesome reviews of here, I really wish my experience had been better. I was traveling solo and had learned that I prefer to sit either where this is wifi or friendly people I could chat with. I had asked to sit at the bar and was told no. Then I asked to sit in an area where there would be more of a communal vibe(they definitely have this near the bar), I was again told no. I was more than happy to wait for a table, but it was a no go from the manager. I was sat in a corner, just outside of the perimeter of wifi. I took a deep breath and wanted to reset. Sadly, the service equaled the manager’s viewpoints — I was brushed aside and I had to ask three different servers for my beer and water. As neither had arrived even though I requested them at the same time I ordered my food and my food had already arrived. The only plus to my experience here was the excellent Irish music that was playing live. As a warning, they do not let you listen to the music unless you have a drink in hand(having finished one is not sufficient, you must have it in hand). I watched the same manager from earlier ask a family of 4 to either leave or buy drinks. The teenagers mentioned they don’t drink soda but they still had to order one so they could stay. Really, I think I just felt nickle and dimed by my whole experience here. I was either an inconvenience or just an open wallet. Not cool.

Very cool old place to visit. Lots of areas to sit and drink and listen to music. Really unique. We had a blast with the live music downstairs that was more modern and then the traditional upstairs.

Food was good, husband had one of the«best steaks he’s ever had». I had crab/fish cakes which were also good. Had some live music which was good. Would return!

Very nice pub… would do 3.5 stars if possible… I had the Irish stew… which is the best Irish stew we had in ireland… the meat wasn’t over cooked… the sauce was very tasty… and not just brown gravy… I think that’s the secret to this stew… its a must try here… also as an added note… the brown bread in ireland is better than what we are use to here in America…

Best Place for a Wedding Reception in Kilkenny!!! a large private area, where you forget you’re in a big restaurant. Absolutely beautiful, with delicious food, and a great history. My wedding was amazing and memorable because of Kyteler’s Inn and Kilkenny itself. (Since everyones always curious, the price and service was excellent) Can’t thank them enough, and am looking forward to going back!

We went here during a day trip to Kilkenny, Glendalough, and the Wicklow Mountains. Our guide suggested we stop here for food and a drink. We were enchanted by the story of the witch that lived here and decided to give it a go! The bar was very busy because the Ireland/England Rugby game was going on. We still had very good service. I got the special which was lamb with gravy, mashed potatoes, and cabbage. It was so delicious! My boyfriend got the lamb stew which he said was adequate. My sister got their signature chicken dish(Hot Chicken and Ham Vol-au-vent) and she REALLY enjoyed it! She said it was like a pot pie without the crust! We also tried the sticky toffee pudding and it was good! The bathrooms are nice and there are a bunch of interesting trinkets on the walls to look at. We enjoyed our stay!

I had the chicken and ham vol-au-vant(sp?) And my partner had the chicken wings and soup of the day. My food was delicious, his was okay. The ambiance is fantastic at this place, the stone work on the inside and out and the cubbys and little sitting areas were so charming. The gluten free menu was somewhat limited but it was great that they had one they were great with questions and the details, just in case anyone has food allergies it was an easier place to dine than most!

This is a place full of history and charm. The front desk man at the Aspect Hotel recommended it, which is where we stayed in Kilkenny. We had dinner & drinks, & overlooked a small but bustling street & shops down below. Everything was delicious & filling– we had chicken & ham vol-au-vert, french dip & stuffed mushrooms. Great ambience, very cozy & lively.

We stopped in for a pint and to watch a horse race or 5… The pub is really neat and had a very authentic feel about it. We were there during the«off-season»(late November) so there weren’t as many tourists as there would have been had it been summer time. The crowd was a good mix of locals, tourists, and area visitors.

Well, it had to happen sooner or later. Sometime on this vacation we had to walk into a restaurant and hear predominantly American voices at the neighboring tables. I have to say, I didn’t expect it in Kilkenny after avoiding it in Dublin, and certainly not in a place we got out of Lonely Planet. Then again, maybe there’s a Lonely Planet uncertainty principle, they can’t observe a restaurant without changing the outcome. At any rate, I was pretty disappointed. The décor was a little tacky, with swords and muskets hanging on the walls like Medieval Times meets TGI Fridays. The service was fine if a little slow, and you pay at the bar which seemed unusual and slightly inconvenient since you have to wade through the bar crowd clamoring for beers. The food itself seemed like the cooks had learned their craft from an American book about British food, fish and chips and bangers and mash and so on. At least they pulled a good pint of Kilkenny Cream Ale. Assuming that mostly Americans and other tourists will read this review, skip this place and find somewhere where you’ll hear Irish voices nattering and some better food on your table.

Best night in 10 day trip of Ireland. Was wandering around the town after visiting the castle and grounds. Found the pub and went in for dinner(Irish Stew and a Guinness or two). Met some great people, including one of the cutest girls ever(I hope she sees this). Spent the whole night chatting. Great live music as well.

Didn’t eat while we were here. Great selection of beers on tap including the local Kilkenny Ale, which I highly recommend. Be sure to stay for the local live music nightly. Take a walk around and look at the four different bar areas. The basement bar in the cave is a cool atmosphere.

Lovely pub smack in the middle of Kilkenny town with an awesome story about it — it has witchcraft and everything! Nice old pub feel to it and obviously a tourist attraction and with prices to match. A pint of Blue Moon beer and a Jameson + coke = € 12.50.(Is that expensive? I never drink spirits!) Definitely worth a visit when you’re in Kilkenny.
