The Rafter Dempsey’s

after arriving in Ireland, we Drove to Kilkenny, checked into our hotel, freshened up some and took to the streets of the charming medieval town to find a way to fight off the jet lag that comes with a transatlantic red eye.
All the bars along the main drag were bustling, which under normal circumstances would be perfect, but we were in the mood for something a little quieter, so we wandered down a little side street, and stumbled into The Rafter Dempsey’s.
We expected a couple of quick drinks, and then to head back to our hotel for a good nights rest, instead, we made friends with some friendly patrons, and the bar keep, eventually closing the place down and meeting the owner, all while enjoying way too many drinks.

Great budget, clean accommodation right in city centre. I left my iPhone charger in my hotel room and knowing I was still in town, the barmen actually tracked me down to get it back to me!
If you are a light sleeper, you’ll have trouble sleeping before 1am– but otherwise, it’s a fantastic budget place– 45 € for a single including breakfast

Good solid food… seafood chowder was excellent as was the brown bread that came with it… wife loved the chicken chiabatti sandwich… and the server made an excellent lime and beer for her… and my G& T was generous.
