This is a cute little tea shop in the Swan center in Rathmines. They sell a good variety of teas from around the world where you buy per 100g, and you can even mix different teas together. They also serve Matcha(tea)! You can sit in as well and order and of the teas they have on offer, and there’s also some food on the menu like sandwiches and soups. It’s really small inside, but nonetheless nicely decorated and great for afternoon tea!

I like it here I have to say. I have had the same dish of spearmint tea and salami sandwich every time and it was always been deliciously consistent. Staff are friendly too. Yes it’s in the Swan Centre, albeit going through a bit of a well-deserved makeover at the moment, but there is a really nice chilled out atmosphere about House of Tea. They should add more table though as it fills up quite quickly. Three times out of the five I have been there people have come in asking for coffee — makes me smile every time!

The Swan Centre is really becoming quite a quirky spot. I was charmed by the House of Tea. You would not think you were in the Swan Centre. The place is gorgeous and the seating is roomy and you don’t feel at all squashed. The selection of Teas is vast and it is a place where I would meet a friend for a catch up any time. Very impressed. Really reasonably priced.

Fab tea choices… I’m a big fan of the cream tea! But then again scones with whipped cream and jam have always been a big weakness for me since I was a kid! There is a new barista working there that is kind of gruff… I prefer the Irish girl…

House of Tea is trying the impossible. They’re attempting to squash the lazy charm of a tea house into the pre-fabricated unit of a shopping centre. So is it a step-up from the average café chain, or a step-down from the high standards set by the likes of Wall & Keogh? It’s a bit of both. There are plenty of good points. I can’t fault their efforts to make you forget you’re in the Swan Centre. The decorations are cute, there’s jazz and bluegrass music to relax to. It’s a really nice change to what I’m used to in shopping centres. The staff are really helpful too, full of tea-related trivia and tips about their huge selection. That said, it can’t quite shake it’s surroundings. It might be called the House of Tea, but at the moment it feels like it still lives with some very stuffy housemates.

House of Tea should be the go-to place for anyone on the southside looking to buy quality teas for their own consumption, or as gifts. A tiny shop situated on a corner in the quieter wing of the shopping centre, it is fairly open, but it still maintains a calming ambience that offers a brief respite to the weary shopper looking for a quick cuppa and perhaps a nibble or two. The teas are in tin containers stacked on shelves and range orderly from fruity and herbal to green, red, white and black. What’s great is there are tester tins for each blend which you can open and smell to see what you like. Virtually every variation of Chai, Earl Grey and Rooibos are present. There are also some very exotic blends of green floral teas, made with whole jasmine and lotus flowers, but these fetch a considerably higher price than the more typical ones. So far I’ve bought three 100g bags for around € 4.00 each: Earl Grey, Genmaicha and Black Lychee. They all taste absolutely superb and keep their flavour for ages providing they are stored correctly. Aside from loose leaf teas they also sell Ticolino sticks, tea pots, storage containers and other accessories.

I was here a few weeks back had the pine needle tea and a chicken pie with with salad. Now 4 points : — 1)The teas are great with lots and lots of varieties to choose from, but they are not cheap, they all vary in price but its about 3.50 for a pot for 1 and 5.50 for a pot for two. 2)The staff are all very friendly and helpful. 3)There is no escaping the feeling that your sitting in a shopping center, probably the perspex windows and the hundreds of shoppers strolling by. 4)The chicken pie i got was more a pastry that had been heated(possibly in a microwave) i don’t think they have proper cooking facilities, so your better of sticking with tea and cake.(but the salad i had with the pie was light and crisp and perfect) It appears they make there living selling the bags of tea and accessories and need to move to a better venue to become a real tea shop for me!
