This place is pretty close to my place, so of course, when I was craving Chinese one day, I decided to finally try it. Well, they didn’t have debit. So a few months later when I was craving it I actually had cash. The food is pretty good, but not the best Canadian Chinese food I’ve had. Regardless, it’s still a great little Chinese place. The staff do seem nice, and the inside does look clean. So that’s good.

I see that this place hasn’t done so well in the reviews so far, but I have to say that this is one of our go to places for take out. I used to work down the road and was introduced to the place because we would order from here for lunch. The lunch portion sizes were always so big that I would often split one lunch combo with a co-worker. I love the chow mein and the egg rolls and chicken balls are always yummy. After I stopped working in the neighborhood, I still ordered from here because it was always pretty good. I really like that they let you order from the lunch menu any time of day for an extra couple bucks. The lunch size combos are cheaper, but are the potion size of any dinner sized combo at other restaurants that I’ve seen. Beware, they only take cash, so come prepared.

The other day, I was really wanting some Chinese food so I weighed my options and decided to give this place a try, despite the negative review. I literally live a 2 minute walk to it and for the past year have not ventured inside. I called and ordered a combo including rice, beef broccoli, chicken balls and egg roll(9.75) and Cantonese chow mien(12.95). I knew I wouldn’t be able to eat it all but I really wanted some noodles as well. It was hard to understand the lady on the phone but she understood me. Ten minutes later I walked up the street and was told my order was not quite ready yet. I stood and looked around and concluded that I would never want to dine in. The chairs and tables were old and the table clothes dirty. It should be takeout only. The lady who brought me my order and took my payments commented on my hair(braids) and although I am not sure what she was saying, I am pretty sure it was a compliment. I took my order home and was surprised at how good it looked. The chow mein was covered in veggies I did not eat so I picked them off and the noodles, shrimp, chicken and beef was quite good — my only complaint is that it could have used some more sauce. The combo was also very good. I really have no complaints on that part, and quite enjoyed it. Overall, I have eaten at quite a few Chinese restaurants over the years and I have had much worse, but I have also had better. I would definitely not rule this place out, outside looks can be deceiving, and like all businesses they probably have some off days. Since it is so close to killam apartments and residential houses, it’s a good option if you do not want to drive. I am moving to a new location in a couple of weeks though so I probably will not dine here again based solely on that reason.

For the four years we have lived up the street from this place my husband has been saying«Let’s try Hing Wing» and tonight he got his wish. And it will be that last time. The wanton soup was vial. I don’t know what the meat was inside the boiled tasteless wonton’s but it actually made me gag. The chicken fried rice had so much soy sauce on it I couldn’t taste anything else. It left my mouth with a disgusting oily film. All in all… urg!
